Sara Raasch has known she was destined for bookish things since the age of five, when her friends had a lemonade stand and she tagged along to sell her hand-drawn picture books too. Not much has changed since then — her friends still cock concerned eyebrows when she attempts to draw things and her enthusiasm for the written word still drives her to extreme measures. Her debut YA fantasy, SNOW LIKE ASHES, the first in a trilogy, came out October 14, 2014 from Balzer + Bray. It does not feature her hand-drawn pictures.
I really like Theron on book one but then i started to dislike him more and more! Didn’t care about his pov and actually it added nothing to the story!
I only discovered that this short story existed earlier this week, but because it’s been nearly six years since I finished the series I did feel a bit lost. It’s well-written and added depth to Theron’s character, but it would have been nice to see this incorporated into the final book as I found that disappointing when I read it.
It has a lot of character in Theron and it was nice to see that. The main story didn't have too much of him but he's a good character. He is way more flushed out in these chapters into his world view. He is extremely loyal and a very positive person regardless of the horrible stuff his father has done. Devout man with a horrible father. You get to see the backstory from his perspective and his feelings for her. There is not the same conflict in him as there is for her. The villain, I forget his name, was given better insight, he is a mustache evil villain but you see why he is a mustache evil villain type. Driven mad by the magic that consumes him and he strives for.
This is the novella that I liked the most because it is narrated by Theron's point of view. You can read this alongside the third book because the author wrote where those scenes are inserted in the main plot (thing that I didn't do because I hadn't read the second novella at that time so I didn't look at the structure of this novella).
Of Theron's chapters the one that I liked the most is the one about his mother's death and why she died. In fact I didn't understand why she died and how, the cause. I don't remember whether they mention it in the first book because, as I said, I read it so long ago, so I'm happy that they mentioned it here.
Also, the last scene of this novella is enlightening. :D For this reasons I gave 5 stars.
