Always loved Ms. Macomber's books. this is a two book deal which takes place in Buffalo Valley and in book one Margaret has been raised by her Father and is really not sure how to be a lady while working along side him on the ranch. When a new man comes to work the ranch next door she falls in love at first sight but the town thinks he is no good. Her Dad is dying and calls Matt to meet with him and tells him that his daughter is in love with him and if he hurts her he will pay. Matt has no intentions of marring her but the waitress hes is sleeping with in next town tries to convince him to do just that and take her money. He refused but, he still ended up marring Margaret and the waitress tells him that she is pregnant. After a lot of ups and downs, he sees that he is in love with his wife and she takes him back and they have child of their own and adopt the waitresses baby.
In book two, Vaughn has got out of service and taken job with the company his girlfriend works for. He goes to visit his parents at Christmas before he starts new job and his girlfriend ask him to check out town of Buffalo Valley where the company is planning to build big box store. He goes under the pretense of meeting old family friend and meets Carrie also-- the town is quaint little town, everybody knows everybody and they do not want the big box store so they set out to fight it. Vaughn ends up falling in love with Carrie and the town and thinks of Hassie as his Grandmother. He has to tell them that he worked for the Company (Value X) but before he does, he resigns first and then tells them. Both of these stories has laughter, tears, loyalty and love in them. Look forward to reading more about this town.
I like to read books by Debbie Macomber when I need a break from non-fiction or serious works. There are times when we all need to read stories that are about realistic people where, for the most part, things work out well in the end.
The plot had its twists and turns but by the end I was feeling pretty good about how things turned out.
I call this type of book an escape from stress and real life and read at least one a week.
The author lives not far from me and is an avid knitter so that adds to the reason that I follow her work so avidly.
Dakota Nights by Debbie Macomber. Powerful women. Passionate kisses. This book is a G-rated romance with pregnancies, dangerous secrets, multi-generational families, and holidays. It celebrates small towns and small farmers. If you want love at first sight that lives happily ever after, this is your book.
This book was a nice, easy read. I felt engaged with the characters quickly. It flowed nicely. It contained just the right amount of romance and friendly relationships, balanced with a community dilemma. I enjoyed it enough that it made me want to read more books in this series.
I love stories about small town America and how the people live and interact. Macomber is a master at relationship dynamics and simply brings the characters to life.
Dakota Nights is placed in small town North Dakota close to Grand Forks. It is fun to read a book when you know the area and understand the people. I think the same about its sequel Buffalo Valley.
If you're looking for a fun, light read, this is a good choice. I truly got lost in this story - something seriously needed during the pandemic. No work, just fun.
