I don't know whether to say "aww" or to groan and roll my eyes. This book is so punny... but in the most adorable way!
I Love You Like No Otter combines short, pun-filled rhymes with the most adorable illustrations of little animals and their parents. Everyone looks so cute and fuzzy and huggable. I can totally see this working as a bedtime book, because of its sweet rhymes and gentle illustrations.
It's a simple book, but it works. It would make a nice baby gift, too.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Wonderland for providing a digital ARC.
I Love You Like No Otter had beautiful illustrations with a cute and entertaining play on the animals names or attributes as puns.
Beginner level reading with great illustrations, I Love You Like No Otter is a win, win in my book for a children's book. And, this is just the sort of book I would buy for my grand-daughter.
I received this ARC copy of I Love You Like No Otter from SOURCEBOOKS Jabberwocky - Sourcebooks Wonderland. This is my honest and voluntary review. I Love You Like No Otter is set for publication Jan 1, 2020.
My Rating: 4 stars Written by: Rose Rossner Illustrated by: Syndney Hanson Board book: 24 pages Publisher: Sourcebooks Wonderland Publication Date: January 7, 2020 ISBN-10: 1728213746 ISBN-13: 978-1728213743 Genre: Children's Book
I thought this really cute! It is full of puns and adorable animals. Loved the illustrations! While my copy was an early review digital copy, I would be very interested in owning a classroom copy. I believe young children will love it! The hedgehogs, cats, and dogs were some of my favorite. Tho, I love the kangaroo page too. I bet this will be irresistible when it comes out in print.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a digital copy to review. I highly recommend it!
This is a cute board book full of animal puns (think beary for very, hoppy for happy, etc.) with lots of cute animals with their parents. Very young children are likely to enjoy it and the art is cute. This would be a sweet book for bedtime.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for purpose of review.
Just like the cover shows, this book is full of beautiful illustrations depicting a parent and their child. The text is made up of a cute play on the animals' names or attributes as puns. As an adult, I was groaning with some of them, but my grandson thought they were pretty funny. I read this to my granddaughter as a bedtime story when I put her down for a nap and she loved the illustrations. I'm not sure if she got the puns, but she liked the book. It can also be used as a beginner or early reader book with repetitive patterns. This is one that I would recommend for family libraries. Both grandchildren liked this one, so it is a winner for us. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.
While we agree with the message of unconditional love, we couldn’t handle the relentless puns. This was just too pedestrian for us. However, the quality of this board book was top notch. Delicious taste, smooth and shiny. Drool resistant pages. Strong enough to handle 2 titanium strength razor sharp bottom teeth, without a single dent. One star literature, but this was a 5 Michelin star meal. We will probably be back for second helpings of this book.
I Love You Like No Otter by Rose Rossner and illustrated by Sydney Hanson is a story about parents and children told with a number of clever animal references to fill out the sentences in which the parent animal depicted is describing how much they care for the child animal. From otters to mice to bears, there's always an animal pun to be seen.
It's a simple book, but it's a cute one. Just as you see in the title, this short children's story is peppered throughout with phrases similar to I Love You Like No Otter, using animal names and references to eke out a different meaning for the children reading it. Hopefully, no one's child will begin spelling other like otter, though.
I loved the artwork in this book. Each animal is a wonderful amount of cute, though I'll admit that I'd have preferred if the dog breed chosen hadn't been a pug (I've never been a fan of smoosh-face dogs). Regardless, the illustrator did an amazing job of adorable-izing each of the animals portrayed in the story.
It's a quick read that works well for any parent who wants something sweet and caring to read to their child. I wouldn't say that the story offers much by way of learning or morals, but it's still one that I enjoyed and would consider having on my shelf in the future. I imagine a great many kids falling in love with it rather easily.
I was provided a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This sweet book is the perfect bedtime story served up of course with lots of hugs and cuddles. Written simply, in rhyme, it is perfect for a beginning reader to enjoy. In my opinion sharing it with a special adult(s) in life would be by far the best thing to do. One wouldn't want to miss out on an opportunity to cozy up and to feel very special while the book is read out loud to you.
The gorgeous illustrations depict a variety of parents: owls, seals, bees, kangaroos, otters, and mice (just to name a few), that are snuggling with their babies and showing them how much they are loved and cherished. The pictures are large and colourful. Wee ones can relate to the special care and attention that the baby animals are receiving because their mommies fuss over and love them very much too.
The playful puns that the author has chosen is sure to bring a smile to everyone's face... child and adult. I highly recommend this book.
Five star approved by by Granddaughter! She especially enjoyed the lovely illustrations depicting a mother and her offspring in cuddly caring scenes of lovingness. She isn't yet reading; however, the rhymes were effective in making plays on the names of the animals, i.e. "I love you like no otter," and several more of the same ilk. Enjoyed reading it to her and she really did enjoy seeing the illustrations and making the sounds of each animal. Grandkid approved--no better recommendation.
I read this one tonight in honor of my Aunt Lindsay and wow, I don’t know what was better. The book itself or all the sweet notes she wrote me along the way!!! I also had my pal Ed with me while reading the book so we were all otter’d out. Love it so much, perfect book before bedtime. I love u linds, ava, evs & mike!!!!!
Puns! Adorable Creatures! Terribly cute illustrations! Short and Sweet! My son loved it and I couldn't ask for a better book to make him laugh. #Iloveyoulikenootter #Netgalley
My daughter gets the biggest grin on her face when we read this book together. We’ve read it at least once day for at least the past two months. I’ve memorized it too for “reading” without the book
It was cute. Full of adorable animal puns with really nice illustrations. Too bad my baby is not as interested in books as I am. He did pay attention a little bit but preferred opening and closing the book.
I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I loved the pictures in the book, but the text lost me halfway through. I thought they were reaching for the puns a little too much. But I have to say I again about how much I absolutely loved the pictures.
Really adorable illustrations. Unfortunately, the book is like so many other books out there that the illustrations aren't enough to make it really stand out.
