A unique read, but one that ended up being a bit too angsty and convoluted in ways that didn't make much sense.
Beautifully written, a tale of love-at-first-sight. But the lack of clear communication and deliberate keeping secrets - that ultimate end up *not* being as insurmountable as the characters make them out to be, spoil an otherwise alluring story.
I just found myself frustrated with both women's behaviour and actions, and reactions, and also felt let-down at the 'reveal' not being as hopeless or impossible as one character made it seem. Which made it all end in an easy way, but makes you give a giant WTF as to why it had to be so complicated.
A beautiful magical romantic fairy tale with an amazing sexy witch, a veterinarian and a big secret. I found myself laughing, crying and most definitely, falling in love. Green is now my favorite color. I didn't want to stop reading it. It's a story you can simple get lost in.
3 stars I'm not sure whether I liked it or not. It was definitely unique, bordering on weird. But for me it was maybe a bit too unique, in a way. It's hard to describe. And the miscommunications annoyed me. There was actually no big unbeatable issue, they just wallowed and refused to talk to each other.
Intelligence is sexy. Knowledgeable women, even if they are green witches, make my head spin. Add to that an adorable vet who gets easily spooked and a funny best friend who speaks Italian, and you've got yourself a world of possibilities. Fun, interesting and flirty read. It's a book that does what it's supposed to do: entertain.
I remember this book initially from the 1990’s when first published by Rising Tide, Bella Books picked this author up. I reread it, this past Halloween (2016). It is very funny and quite entertaining. I hear she has written non-fiction too, so even though this may be her first lesbian novel you can tell she is a seasoned author with a mature and experienced writing style. This such a quirky romance, but oh so much fun to read. She knows how to get you wound up so that you just can’t put the story down. Her characters are very colorful. Her romance scenes are well done and not over simplified, they are tasteful at the same time giving you a thrill. The story flows well and the magic is in the air. She knows how to get you wound up so that you just can’t put the story down. This author knows how to write a story and not just fill pages. Yes, this is paranormal and fantasy, but it is told in a real world feel. This is a must fun read, don’t miss it.
OMG. That was something...awful. 1st page she met the most beautiful woman in her life, 15th page they had wonderful sex and on the 20th page she said she´s love of her life. Dear God.... You can´t believe your eyes when reading. You are in a city full of lesbians where some of them has green skin... I´ve never read anything more stupid. Can´t believe this was published... Trash.
The early pages weren't enjoyable read because the narratives and dialogue seemed too wordy... It felt like the author attempted to fill pages than their utility. However, further on, the potion of love, mystic and hurt livened the whole story up.
I never believed in Spells or Magic until I met this special spell caster called James Hydrick ,The woman i wanted to marry left me 3 months to our weeding ceremony and my life was turned upside down. she was with me for 5 years and i really love her so much..she left me for another man with no reasons..when i called her she never picked up my calls and she don't want to see me around her…so,when i told James Hydrick what happened he helped me with some readings, and after the readings he told me that the other man has done some spells on my woman and that is the reason why she left me..he told me he will help me cast a love spell to bring her back. At first i was skeptical but i just gave it a try…In 2 days, she called me herself and came to me apologizing..I cant believe she can ever come back to me again but now i am happy she's back and we are married now and we live as a happy family..Am posting this to the forum if anyone needs the man’s help.contact him through his email: divine.spells @ yahoo. com
Read Love Spell after enjoying the author’s more recent books As the Crow Flies and Coyote Blues. I wouldn’t call myself exactly a paranormal or fantasy fan, so it says a lot about her books that I thoroughly enjoyed them. This book was shorter, although I wished it had a few more chapters on how Kate and Allegra negotiated their relationship and just to enjoy them being together. I so loved this book! Whimsical, imaginative yet somehow it felt real. It was intelligent, funny, moving at parts, sweet and magical!
A quick and entertaining read for sure, though it did lose me in terms of interest around halfway through where they had sex within a day of meeting and then did not actually communicate until soooo much later whilst claiming they were actually in love of course. I think this is a book made for short term relief of the real world and should be treated as such, though the brief informative world-building scenes explaining Allegra’s history were quite pleasantly well-written (and the sex scene was of course too, which I was surprised given this was written in the 90s)

I think the author is quickly becoming one of my favourites. The writing was absolutely lushed and dreamy, definitely my favourite style of writing. Not to mention the intelligence. This book has the ability to make me ache to see my favourite pair end up together. Despite the unrealness you might feel towards the relationship progress, it is no wonder at all when you finished this one. Love it.
Kate, a veterinarian out on a walk, discovers a lovely green witch. But it's almost Halloween, so she's not scared. Allegra, a real witch, is nervous about dating Kate. What will she do if, or when, she finds out the truth?
I loved the lushness of description, and the characters.
Nothing groundbreaking but it was cute and I really loved the characters (also how was this written in the 90s????). It was exactly what I was wanting to read while I wait for new Agatha All Along episodes.
Beautiful detailed nature and atmosphere of autumn and winter and great Lesbian representation. But Main characters lack communication and sometimes it gets little boring and predictable.
What a wonderful whimsical romance, it was hard not to fall in love with Kate and Allegra. Cute cats and dogs, and wonderful side characters. Great read.
I have owned this book a few times (lost it in break ups over the years) and I realised I had bought the ebook sometime as well. It's such a beautiful love story. I realise whenever I read it, how it feels to really love. My only comment is that I wish it had continued a little longer in the story of Allegra and Kate. My favourite lesbian romance. I must have read this 100 times over the last 28 years of owning it and I just adore it every time.
DNF: I just couldn't motivate myself enough to finish this one. It started out well, but sometimes rambled a little too much. Perhaps I just set it down for too long. Everytime I thought about trying to get a few more pages in, it felt more like a chore. I would still recommend it as a seasonal read. It's mysterious and sweet. I liked both characters, I just felt like nothing special happened even as I got halfway through the book.
This is a fascinating love story. It has elements of the supernatural, which is always a good thing for me, and of course the lesbian romance is nicely paced and has some great sex in it. Kate and Allegra were well-crafted characters that I fell in love with. The secondary characters were pretty well-rounded, especially Gigi. The ending seemed just a little high on the exposition side, particularly in explaining the supernatural aspects, and yet I wasn't 100% sure where everything was going to end up going until the end, which is great for me as a reader!
My only real complaint lay in some of the choices of emphasized words. I'm not really sure what the author was intending in some of them, which kind of threw me for a loop. Thankfully, these instances weren't bad enough to completely pull me out of the story itself.
It's been a while since I read this, but I think of it once in a while because one doesn't run across many novels quite like this featuring a female veterinarian and an actually green witch. (Actually, it was recommended to me by a friend who knows about my thing for green women.) It's an enjoyable love story and Ms Williams writes well. I liked the characters and the rural setting. I notice it's now available for Kindle. The copy I have is a first edition with a sort of amateur looking cover, which has been upgraded...
