Maddie

Three things are more important to me than anything else; family, baking, and fun. So when I saw Keller Cannon, drummer of LP-45, perform at a charity concert, I knew he’d be the perfect guy to have heaps of fun with.

It was temporary. No strings attached. A pretty damn perfect arrangement if you ask me.

Until it wasn’t. Until being with him highlighted just what I was missing.

But having more wasn’t an option.

He made that perfectly clear.

Keller

Music is my escape. When I’m behind my drums, I’m granted temporary respite from my demons and a small reprieve I don’t deserve.

Until Maddie.

Maddie is a distraction I can’t afford and crave at the same time. I drown in her and she breathes life into me. She offers peace--the comfort and promise of a life free from the torment. But I don’t deserve her. And I can’t need her like I do.

I just cant.

My first but certainly not my last read by this author. I felt as if I inhaled this quickly.

Maddie and Keller are so good together. Keller is hesitant about allowing himself to get close to women. However Maddie changes everything. Will Keller’s secrets ruin everything?

I’m quite fussy about rockstar stories and I’m giving this the thumbs up.

I really enjoyed Drop Beat! The story was started out super hot, and ended super sweet. I love a sexy rockstar romance, and Maddie and Keller’s story did not disappoint. This audio book is narrated by Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke. (Always one click narrators for me!)

Erin Mallon portrays Maddie perfectly! Maddie is carefree and adores her best friend. She loves life, and Erin does a great job bringing that to life in her narration. Jason Clarke’s deep, smooth voice is just what I imagined for Keller. Keller has demons in his past, and only wants something light and fun. Jason does a great job portraying the different layers of Keller. Both narrators’ voices complimented each character in the best way.

Overall, I loved this story. It starts off quick and hot! It will hook you, and leave you swooning over Maddie and Keller! This rockstar romance is not to be missed! I'm looking forward to more from this author!

This is a steamy, sexy & sweet rock star romance that has you swooning. The story starts of quite steamy and ends so very sweet, like an “awwwe – heart clutching” HEA.

I really liked Maddy´s character. She is so full of life, quirky, a bit clumsy and literally says out loud what she actually just wants to think. She is a big fan of band LP-45 especially their drummer Keller and has nothing against some steamy fun before returning home to South Africa after visiting her best friend Blaire in L.A.

Keller is the sexy drummer of LP-45. He is quite taken with Maddie and suggests a no strings attached fun weekend. He is not into serious relationships as he is battling his own demons and thinks he shelters Maddie by staying emotionally distant!

Maddie and Keller have so much chemistry! I loved how the dialogs were written which made for some really fun & sexy banter.

This is low angst and there is not much drama going on which sometimes is not a bad thing if you want something light, fun, sexy, easy to read/listen to and feel good at the end.

This can be read as standalone but to get the bigger picture of the side character´s like Maddie´s best friend Blaire start with “Back Beat” beforehand which is the first book of the Heartbeat series.

Audio Perfomances by Erin Mallon & Jason Clarke were amazingly awesome as always. What I love about both narrators is that they do such good imitations of the opposite sex. They just ease into it so effortless. They both brought Maddie & Keller to life perfectly. I actually think Jason is doing one of my favourite female voices as a male narrator.

I loved this book! Erin was amazing (as always) as Maddie. She portrayed her adorable, funny quirky personality perfectly. Jason was spot on as Keller, the tortured, sexy yet sweet drummer of LP-45.
This book starts off hot and it stays hot, no slow burn and I loved every bit of it! This couple has off-the-chart chemistry together and thanks to Maddie's easy going nature, Keller was able to let go of his 1 night stand rules and fall in love before he knew what hit him.
Ryleigh built a great story around Keller and his baggage without needlessly drawing out too much drama. I, for one, as a reader appreciate that sometimes we just don't need or want an extra 3 hours of angst just to make a book longer.
This was a perfect read and now I need to read book 1! Thankfully, you don't HAVE to read in order, but I think it would be better overall to get more out of this since book 1 ia about Maddie's BFF, Blair.

This is a 5 Star Rocker read.

Holy crap, Ryleigh Sloane is on fire with Drop Beat, book 2 in the Heartbeat series, and the sassy-mouthed Maddison is more than a handful for the sexy drummer from the band, LP-45.

We met Maddison and Keller as secondary characters in Back Beat, and although each book is a complete stand-a-lone, we get to meet the characters that will return throughout the series, know their backgrounds and develop a real affinity for them. Hell’s teeth, we already knew going into this book that Maddie gets more than a little bit hot and bothered watching Keller twirl his drumsticks with his dexterous fingers and imagined how he could put them to good use. But with him being a rock star, she figured she’d just be dreaming about it.

Thing is, she’d forgotten that she had an in with the band through her best friend Blair and boyfriend Dean, who's story was Back Beat. I highly recommend you read that book first like I did, and I guarantee you won’t be sorry. Ms Sloane’s writing is witty and paints a vivid picture without being too onerous with the details. I have to warn you though, that if you are going to read these books in public, have your back to the wall, because there are some hot, hot, HOT moments going on in them!

She also has the intense chemistry between her characters down to a fine art, and as hot a hell as that is, it is the hilariously awkward real life embarrassing moments she brings to her characters that I just love. For Keller and Maddison it was the stilted awkwardness of first time sex, that is often just glossed over, that had me laughing in shock! And holy crap, when the scene took a literal nose dive into “I legit want to drop dead from embarrassment” territory, I pretty much spat my drink!! It was these hilarious moments of clumsiness on Maddie’s behalf and Keller’s reaction to them that I loved so much, Seriously, there is more than a few choke in surprise moments going on.

It’s not all fun and games though. Laughter and tomfoolery can hide a wealth of pain, and Keller’s past has damaged him to the point that it was a very defining moment in his life, so as much as he is realising his affinity to Maddison, he won’t let himself be rewarded by a love he doesn’t believe he deserves. My heart was sad for both of them.

If you haven’t gathered by now, how much I loved this book, I’ll make it clear. This is a 5 Star Rocker read in my humble opinion. Rock Stars make for my favourite reading, and Ryleigh Sloane has been added to my list of highly recommended must-reads. I urge you to give her books a go. They’re time and money well spent.

Drop Beat is book 2 in the Heartbeat series, following Back Beat, which is the story of Maddie's best friend Blaire, and Dean. Maddie appears several times in Back Beat, so we do get to know her. She's fun and quirky, and lives in South Africa. She and Blaire speak on the phone several times, and Blaire returns home to South Africa at one point, so they spend some time together, and we get to know her a bit in book 1 from these scenes.

Book 2, Drop Beat, is Maddie's story entirely. It starts where book 1 ends off, at a concert where Dean is proposing to Blaire, and the band performing is one of the other coach's (from book 1). Maddie has the hots for the drummer, Keller. This is their story!

Neither Maddie nor Keller really "do" relationships. Maddie is a carefree spirit and Keller has a dark secret in his past, and besides - he's a rockstar! Rockstars never do relationships. Maddie showing up is a perfect opportunity for him - the girl is hot, interested in him, and from South Africa - she's only here for a couple of days. What could be better?!

However, after an amazing night together, he finds that he can't stop thinking about her. He keeps getting in touch, sending her international gifts, asking Dean and Blaire about her. What's wrong with him? This has never happened before! His dark secret will turn her off (it will turn everyone away), so he needs to get a grip on himself. He keeps trying to distance himself, but with Dean and Blaire's wedding around the corner, she's going to be returning to LA so he's going to see her again. Why can't he make himself stop calling her, thinking about her?

Will his dark past catch up with him, and will Maddie be able to see beyond it and will her feelings (long-time crush) overcome everything? This is an amazing, well-written (and of course, amazingly narrated, by the great Erin Mallon and Jason Clark) story of love and triumph and overcoming so many obstacles. Awesome job Ryleigh! I can't wait for book 3 - there better be a book 3!

ARC received from author...

Whenever I encounter a new to me author, it's like being set up on a blind date. Which I really don't enjoy, in theory. How do you know the other person is even worth the effort of getting all prettied up? What if you have absolutely nothing in common? Will there be awkward silence??

But, maybe the cover and info sound intriguing enough, that you just go for it.

Admittedly, the first few pages threw me off balance. Though a standalone, things start smack dab in the midst of the action, and while a bit crazy, it works for the premise.

Keller Cannon is a sexy rockstar, and catches Maddie messing with his drum kit after a show. Normally, this would be a no go, but there's something about her he can't quite put his finger on. Knowing she's only going to be in town for a short time before returning home to South Africa, he decides that satisfying his curiosity is safe and worth breaking his more than once rule. Plus, Maddie is real, says what she thinks, and adorably clumsy at times.

Maddie finds Keller sexy (duh, drummer!), and after their fast and furious affair, heads back home...and Keller finds a way to keep finding a way into her thoughts.

A fabulous, sexy, unexpected read, with real emotions and heartache, this was a hard to put down rockstar romance with heart, all the feels, a storyline with just enough breaking to make you beg for them to be put back together, and swoon worthy moments.

Ryleigh Sloan is a word magician!! Drop Beat deserves ALLLL the stars!! I loved this book, loved Maddie and Keller, the banter between them was GOLD!! Keller has an amazing life, loving family and he's doing what he loves and has always wanted to do. There's a dark cloud hanging over him though, and he's overcome by guilt over something that happened over a decade before. He won't talk about it because he fears he'll lose everyone who's important to him, and that is also why he never allows a woman to get too close...then Maddie rocks his world, and he is knocked on his ass, she is unlike any woman he's ever known and he likes being around her, he figures it's safe since she lives in South Africa and he's in the US...Blair and Dean also are seen frequently in this book since Blair and Maddie are best friends, and with Blair now based in the US does that mean Maddie may visit more? What could that potentially mean for Maddie and Keller? I can't say enough times YOU NEED THIS BOOK IN YOUR LIFE!!! You really want to read Back Beat first though, trust me you'll love it and Drop Beat too!! I can't wait to see what Ryleigh comes out with next, and hope there's more coming from this series as well!!

(audiobook) It was an enjoyable book, and the narrators made it ten times better.

I love a good no-strings-attached relationship that becomes more once the characters know more about each other. Add to that an adorable clumsy lady and some extra sexy times, and I’m sold.

The author tackles some heavy subjects too, with respect, and I couldn’t help but feel for Keller and his guilt. I’m still puzzled by why that made him decide to avoid relationships though. There’s also positive messages here–like you can find love even with an extreme disability.

Music isn’t a main focus of the story, but we still see one concert, one music video filming, and some studio time. This IS a rockstar romance after all. We get a lot of friendly time between the band members though. In general, I enjoyed the various relationships between the characters.

As for the narration, it was perfect. The narrators are good at both drama and humor, and there’s plenty of both here. A great book overall!

Quickie

- Series: The heartbeat #2 (can be read as a standalone)
- Hashtags: #rockstar romance #no strings attached #klutz
- Triggers: eating disorder, disability
- Main couple: Madison Ross & Keller Cannon
- Hotness: 5/5
- Romance: 4/5
- + Maddie’s goofiness, so adorable
- – huge info dump at the beginning

OMFG!! Ryleigh Sloan you my friend, have ligit slayed it!

Maddie is Blair's best friend from Back Beat, Keller is the drummer from the LP-45s, so you get the lovable characters from previous books...which by the way are must reads.

Maddie would be a hoot to have as a best friend, she'd have you constantly LOL, but she's a bit of a hot mess when it comes to relationships.

Keller is loyal to the bone, he gives everything his all, apart from in the love dept. He has a darkness from his past that is following him like his shadow and can’t shake it.

⛔SOME SPOILERS⛔

Keller & Maddie hook up for a one-night stand, no-strings, and some good orgasms are the only things on their minds. But then feelings go and get mixed into their plans. How the heck can they have anything secure between them when Maddie lives in South Africa, Keller lives in the USA.

Will Keller's secrets from his past see the light, and if it does will he still have a band to play for? And more importantly would Maddie ever look at him the same again?

Wow Ryleigh Sloan, just Wow..you are Amazing.
How I Loved this story Maddie and Keller were everything I dreamed they would be, they are perfect together. Their attraction is magnetic, their chemistry is as Hot as Hades and their Romance is passionate, compelling and addictive I could not get enough.
Keller has his secrets and a past that won't let him go.
Maddie is a delight her personality is sassy, quirky and funny.
But being a Rockstar drummer like Keller has its downsides and they are both living on different continents he is in the U.S and Maddie is in South Africa, could a relationship even work ,Especially when Keller is troubled.
Like all good love stories there is no easy way to their HEA..I was so gripped by this book and I was in Rock star heaven. Ryleigh Sloan has out done herself and she will always be one of my must read Authors.
This is an intense, emotional, brilliant read that I highly recommend.

An absolutely stunning read that will definitely leave you with a smile on your face 💜

I loved maddie and kellers story, the drummer who's good with his hands " wink, wink" and the fiesty Baker that will have you crying with laughter and oh boy she's got a good kick on her haha

The push and pull between them will give you whiplash and have you screaming at your kindle but wow the chemistry between them is off...the...charts, and the relationship they insist they don't want is right in front of them if they are just willing to let go and take it.....

A fantastic witty and steamy read, brilliantly written and characters full of charisma, charm and sexyness whats not to love about these rockers and the fiesty females that bring them to there knee's

This rockstar romance is my favorite. Keller and Maddie's story is packed with heat, fun, and totally swoon worthy.

Keller may think he's not worthy of love but he proves himself wrong time and time again throughout Drop Beat.

Maddie is full of sass and is such a fun character. Together they are perfect but its hard for them to see.

This book has everything you want in a rockstar romance and so much more! At the very least, read it for the hot shower scene. 😉 Ryleigh Sloan definitely knocked it out of the park with this one. Happy reading. 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡

Keller is a sexy drummer who gets to the point of what he wants.. or what he thinks he wants..
This book is full of witty banter, some definite sexy scenes and some secrets!
Also love how we get to see Dean and Blair pop back in from the first book called Back Beat!

Ryleigh dropped the HEAT with Drop Beat

Keller & Maddie hit the ground running in this one.

You have a troubled man & a quirky gal, together, goodness, they were absolutely perfect.

This book had it all, it had me giggling, it had me blushing & it had me swooning.

Also, Keller knows his shit, orange is where it’s at!

If you’re looking for a rockstar romance that bridges the gap & gives you both comedy & heat, look no further than this book!

Drop Beat
The Heartbeat Series, Book 2
By: Ryleigh Sloan
Narrated by: Erin Mallon, Jason Clarke

Love, love, love Ryleigh Sloan and this second book in her Heartbeat series brought easy listening, passion and all around fun. We have Maddie and Keller featured in this story. Maddie is from South Africa, and finds herself playing with Keller's drum kit. We all know that is not something musicians like, but Keller finds her endearing. There is something about this quirky girl and he makes the most of it for the weekend. But will that be enough? These two were so much fun. Maddie is exactly as she says she is. There is no pretense, she says exactly what is on her mind and it is hysterical. Keller is a little more reserved. He carries some baggage, and he may just need some help with carrying it! Sloan writes low angst, yet realistic stories that we get lost in, and this story was the perfect listen. I loved it!

Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke are a fantastic team and they bring out the best in Maddie and Keller. Mallon easily creates the quirkiness in Maddie, and is so natural it's like we know her well. Clarke finds the heart of Keller and lets us in to help him. It's a wonderful performance and I highly recommend it!

Maddie and Keller are by far my favorite book couple! They laugh, they cry, they get angry just like every other couple. Maddie is so fun, she doesn’t think before speaking and ends up with the funniest things being said. Get ready to feel soo many different emotions when you sit down to read. You won’t want to stop once you start.

I want someone to look at me that way one day. For now, though, I’ll settle with an orgasm, and Keller Cannon from LP-45 would be the perfect delivery boy.

Drum roll Keller, please!!

Best friend extraordinaire Maddie is stepping (or her in klutz ways tripping maybe) into the spotlight!!

We’ve met up with Maddie Ross and wished she was our best friend in Back Beat. And now, lively, no filter Maddie has her own story!! And who will be knees deep in flour with her...only Keller Cannon! Ahhh!!!

But will they become a smash hit couple? Or will the cake tiers fall before the icing sets?

“Madison, look at me. We simply don’t have time for me to show you what I am capable of doing to you with these fingers, or believe me, I’d show you.”

“Well, that’s a damn shame.”

Bubbly Maddie, is a bucket of sunshine on a rainy day! Everyone seems to be moving on with their lives except Maddie, she dreams of opening her own bakery one day but feeling lost. Not that she let’s show by putting a smile on her face and doesn’t it damper her bright attitude.

Now, when the perfect opportunity to spend the last few days of her holiday with, none other than heart scoring, knicker soaking, Keller Cannon...Maddie takes less than a minute to accept his challenge and climbs onto his motorbike.

Maddie knows this will only last until her plane leaves but, while Keller is between her legs Maddie is going to savour every kiss, touch and lick in all the right places! But, it seems Keller has other ideas and with each message, gift sent and opportune moments of being together, Maddie can feel herself slipping into dangerous ‘hoping for more’ territory…

I’ve never been one for being obedient, but I do want I’m told this time. I can play nice if the reward is good enough.

Will Maddie and Keller be singing in time together when the music plays or will the track scratch and cut off before they get to the verse?

I want to keep Maddie as far removed from the horrors of my past as I possibly can. She’s become my safe haven, and her wanting to talk about it is the last thing I need.

Behind the drums Keller comes to life and loves nothing more than living in the music moment with his band. It’s his only outlet to chase away the guilty demons that eat him up inside. Keller keeps everything bottled up tight and when he’s not bashing the hell out of his precious drum kit, Keller seeks another kind of release in the bedroom- or any available space.

Keller is drawn to Maddie right from the start and after a few days of soaking up her rays of happy-go-lucky light and hot as hell body, Keller becomes addictive to Maddie.

Maddie is a tempting treat, full of sugar, spice and all things deliciously deadly...Can Keller risk poisoning someone so sweet and innocent?

“What are you doing?”

“Oh, uh, I’m getting undressed?”

“I’m undressing you, Maddie. I’ve been thinking about it ever since I found you behind my drums.”

Maddie & Keller…<3 Ahh Oh My God!! Smoking hot passion that sweeps you up from the get go! They may only have a short time together, but really that is only the start of their song as they make sweet music together. I love Maddie, I mean LOVE! Don’t get me wrong, Keller is all fineeee and has me melting with dirty talk and skilful...drummer fingers… ;) But Maddie!!!! She’s a joy to read on a dull day.

I’d even go so far as to say he was making love to me. But he doesn’t do that. He takes. He fucks. He doesn’t give more.

Tantalising. Sweet. Wholesome. Thigh Clenching. Hilarious. Shock..are just some of the words I’d use to describe Drop Beat. I love Ryleigh writing, everything about it is real, she doesn’t shy away from writing and prefers to say it as it is (very much like Maddie) with her characters.

A perfect read with a slice of orange iced cake and a very, very cool glass of wine...

“Don’t you think it’s my choice though? Whether I want to be with you or not?”

“I’m poison. I won’t taint you, Maddie.”

Drop Beat is just an amazing book. Ryleigh Sloan is a fantastic author; no one writes as captivatingly as she does, creates people who are as real and vibrant as she does, people who come off the page and into your life; no one’s stories are as gripping and heartfelt as hers. But with Drop Beat, I have to say she’s outdone herself.

Maddie and Keller are extraordinary people: passionate, intense, brilliant. Maddie is amazing and had me in stitches over half the time. People talk about “chemistry” but what Maddie and Keller have transcends the term; they are in a class by themselves. If you enjoy books that bring the heat, you’ll be in heaven with this one.

But to me, the extraordinary thing about Drop Beat, along with the Maddie and Keller’s scorching relationship, are the profound life-lessons it contains. Every one of Ryleigh Sloan’s stories has something very profound to say about life and challenges it brings. This is what takes them to a whole new level, above and beyond what is commonly called “genre fiction”.

Drop Beat is no exception; in fact, it’s one of the most intense. I’m not going to spoil anything with hints, but it’s powerful and everyone can learn from this story.

So Drop Beat has all is all, and more! Ryleigh Sloan continues to prove herself one of the most gifted (and to my mind, the most gifted) writers out there and people owe it to themselves to experience her stories!

I do have one “complaint”: Ryleigh Sloan has spoiled me for other stories and she creates worst book hangovers ever! But I’ll deal with that. It’s so much more than worth it.

My girl Ryleigh Sloan stepped it up a notch with this one!
I was dying to get my grabby hands on this book about the sexy drummer and Ryleigh did not disappoint! Maddie was fun and confident and hilarious and the perfect match for Keller to knock him on his butt. Keller was just... everything. He is sexy and mysterious and broke my heart a little at one point and sexy. I can't wait to read about the rest of the guys in this band either. So much good stuff in this book and I'm sure coming in the future too.

Wonderful second book.

I read the first book in this series months ago and really enjoyed it. The second book also doesn't disappoint me either. The main character are out for a good time but inevitably find more between each other. I laughed in areas of this book at some of the antics of these characters. I hope there will be other books in this series. Congratulations Miss Sloan.
