Scarlett St. John is a lonely rich woman who can’t seem to follow society’s rules on being proper. She relies on her grandfather and his servants to keep her entertained from day to day until… an ancient artifact is stolen from her grandfather and a Pinkerton Agent arrives to solve the crime. Although Travis Hancock is very handsome and charming, he had broken her heart as a young girl, and she doesn’t think she can forgive him. But when the Pinkerton agent involves her in the case of finding the priceless artifact, she’s anxious to find her grandfather’s ancient shield. Suddenly, the hunt becomes exciting and working with an agent isn’t that terrible. Quite the opposite, in fact. The sweetly conniving man just might change her mind about forgiving him after all.
Scarlett St John did not like gossip, yet it seemed she was always on the lips of those in town. Yes, she did flaunt convention a little by wearing trousers and riding her house but what of it? Haven grown up. Living with her grandfather, a prominent man about town didn't seem to stop them from talking either. She had been lonely and never thought any man would be interested in her. But when an artifact goes missing from her grandfather's collection, the journey begins. The Pinkerton agent they send to investigate is non other than her teenager crush, Travis Hancock, she doesn't think she can stand it. When he involves her in the case, the adventure begins! I have so enjoyed all the Pinkerton series and Marie Higgins always brings her wonderful writing into play and I can never put the book down once I turn the first page! Loved it!
Scarlett spends most time with her Grandfather while her parents mostly travel without her and ignore her. She doesn't seem to act like much of a lady but feels like people judge her. She's had a crush on Travis since she was little but he never noticed her as more than an annoying little girl. Now, Travis is back to investigate the disappearance of one of her Grandfather's artifacts. Can she show him that she's now a full grown woman? Can she make him fall in love with her? I can't quite call this a clean book as the ending mentions they are about to enjoy the "other things" of being a couple - but they aren't married yet! I found that the story was way too centered on their passion than on the actual story. I also didn't like the ending - both with the immorality hinted at and the outcome for the villains. It doesn't seem to match how all the other Pinkerton Matchmaker books are. I personally also have a really hard time with books by this author. The while premise of the Pinkerton Matchmaker series is that agents have to marry and train new female agents. But in every book but one that Marie Higgins has written for this series, her main characters never follow that rule! It is frustrating to completely ignore the premise and have characters that are dancing as close to sex before marriage as they can instead, when these books are supposed to be cleaner and proper for the time period.
Scarlett becomes a Pinkerton Agent when a valuable item from her grandfathers collection goes missing. She has always done as she pleased and was the talk of the town but when the Pinkerton agent Travis comes to investigate he was her school crush and he inlist her help with his investigation. This is a sweet romance/suspense with the very unique Scarlett and Travis. Loved the story and even more loved the characters.
Wonderful characters, I absolutely loved Scarlett! This was such a great story from the mystery and who did it to the sweet romance. I love the easy banter between Scarlett and Travis. I enjoyed trying to figure out who was the bad guy or woman, such an exciting story! Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
I liked this book because it is different from the other Pinkerton story books. Scarlett is not the usual western woman-wearing men's clothes, riding like a man, investigating her grandfather's stolen item. Travis doesn't know quite what to make of her behavior until he decides to have her help him. They make a great team. I received an ARC. This is my honest, voluntary opinion.
When something is stolen from her grandfather Scarlett is happy with the help of a Pinkerton Agent but why does it have to be Travis, the one who broke her heart. Will solving the case bring them closer to each other so she can forgive him? This is a really entertaining story with fun characters. It’s different from the others in this series.
I absolutely loved this book! Travis and Scarlett’s story has so many twists and turns that keep you reading way past your bedtime. There are also some parts that keep you on the edge of your seat. I loved this book and I bet you will too! Go ahead and give it a try! I received an advance copy of this book and I voluntarily wrote an honest review.
Scarlett is my kind of woman. She loves adventure and mystery and isn't too worried about society's rules. I loved her character. It's no surprise Travis is quickly drawn to her and they are able to renew their friendship. This story was a lot of fun to read. There were some things I guessed rather early on, but as usual with Ms. Higgins there were some twists I wasn't expecting.
An Agent For Scarlett is another in the Pinkerton Matchmaker series. This specific book is a very suspenseful, and on the end of your chair story like only Marie Higgins can twist. It has all the emotions that any reader of this series are looking for. Another couple that Archie will be glad to make a Pinkerton agent team, but they will be marrying for love and not in name only.
Scarlett is inquisitive, determined, smart and very feisty....which sometimes gets her in trouble. She has Travis captivated, terrified and besotted, resulting in some hilarious verbal sparring, steamy kisses and no chance for dirty double crossing thieves to escape. A lovely addition to the series, I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Marie Higgins has given us a switch up on the usual Pinkerton employment for young ladies. We start with solving the mystery and then come together as agent and potential agent. This is a fun story and I think Scarlett and Travis will be a very successful team.
I loved the spin and tease of the story in reverse of the former books! Scarlett has loved Travis so e she was 15 and seeing him 10 years later is a shock. - Babs
When Scarlett's grandfather's ancient shield is stole, Pinkerton, Travis Hancock comes to the rescue and in the process rescues Scarlett's heart. A bit of mystery and an above the law sheriff and to the mystique of the exquisite story.
An entertaining read. Scarlett's character seemed younger in her actions than a 25 year old woman but when push came to shove she was able to do what was needed to take care of the thieves. If course, Scarlett also got her man and her HEA.
It was engaging and refreshing a well written book and furnished it with an outstanding cast of characters, emotional, suspenseful, understanding and forgiveness.
An Agent for Scarlett is a very enjoyable story. Scarlett is more than a little unconventional and ahead of her time. When Travis who had hurt her in the past arrives as a Pinkerton agent to search for Scarlett's grandfather's missing artifact, Scarlett becomes interested in the search in spite of trying to keep Travis at arm's length. This book has well drawn characters and an interesting plot. It easily held my attention.
