This is exactly the book I've been looking for! Going straight to Amazon to buy myself a copy of this because this is something I'll want to refer to in the next few years. Road trips are laid out step by step for you with plenty of variety in duration, season, cost, and destination. I now know my next few road trips over the next few years will consist of a trip to the Calif missions, one will cover important locations for the Calif gold rush, one will consist of ghost towns, and this fall in addition to trying to ski at Mammoth Mountain (which will mostly be me falling down Mammoth Mountain) I'll also be driving around to Yosemite to visit the old Majestic Hotel (formerly known as the Ahwahnee) and the Big Tree Lodge (formerly known as the Wawona). Yay Lonely Planet! Way to publish a book meant just for me!!!
Good for someone who has no clue about what to do. I had to read some other books to get further info of the places but the book is a good way to start.
Divided into North, Central, and South sections, this book includes a California Driving Guide, covering Road Distances, Insurance, Maps, and Border Issues.
I like the Classic Trips listed--Pacific Coast, Napa Valley, Yosemite/Sequoia, Route 66. I found the Yosemite section to be especially useful for planning my upcoming trip to that national park. The Eastern Sierra section was interesting enough that I am adding it to my itinerary!
This travel guide contains many different road trips throughout California, with comprehensive details about highlights, eating venues and accommodation. I did find it a bit confusing when it suggested linking with other trips as well as their route numbering system.
A travel book, the way a travel book should be written. Plenty of ideas, pictures, maps and ways to interconnect the trips together. I would highly recommend this book for your travels to California.
