This story follows the tree as it is planted and grows during the Revolutionary War. This book is wonderfully told and could be used to provide time perspective and how long things take in this increasing world when things are instantaneous. It is a good reminder that despite modern technology, some things take time and are not instant.

As a fan of both trees and history, this is a wonderful book. The Big Tree begins in 1775. The story highlights major events that happen while this tree is alive. A great way to begin a discussion on history!

This picture book covers American history topics, science concepts, and literary elements! Pumped to use it in my classroom this year.

In honor of the Fourth I re-read this book - our nation's history as witnessed by a tree. A surprisingly good read. Text and images tell the science of maple trees and the story of the past 200 years in a clear and easy to understand format. A wonderful read for any child who ever asked why leaves are green and how old are trees.
