He works at night behind locked doors. Slowly, carefully, he engraves the serial number on the ten-dollar bill he is counterfeiting. He is very skillful. But no matter how good a job this criminal does, he will be caught and sent to prison. For the men of the Secret Service are on his trail! Here are the thrilling stories taken from the files of the U.S. Secret Service. Here is the true story of this remarkable agency — how it began and the courageous work it does.
I never really new much about the Secret Service except that it protects the President. I didn't know that it was attached to the Treasury Department, or that it was set up to fight counterfeiters not to protect important people. Though it was written in the 1950s and many thing have happened since then, it was still an interesting read with stories of real events.
Another vintage Scholastic that I seem to recall reading as a kid. I always have enjoyed these types of books that are chock full of true stories. Inside this are exciting tales regarding the men who carry the star shaped badge and stop counterfeiters and protect the president.
I love these books they are rather short but they are very interesting. They are always written by experts and are well written. The topics are often ones I have not considered before I read them but I always enjoy them!
