Set in the 1870s, Marla is a newspaper woman trying to make it in a man's world. In an effort to be taken seriously, she decides to go undercover and become a Pinkerton detective. Little does she know that in order to become a Pink, she will be required to enter into a marriage of convenience in order to be respectable traveling with and learning from her male trainer.
This was a straight forward historical novel. I enjoyed Marla's initiative. She was willing to what she needed in order to advance in her chosen career. I liked her interaction with Pryce Adams even though I would have liked to have seen a little more development of their romance. The murder mystery, was not so much a mystery, but rather more about how they get the accused to confess.
All in all, I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to friends that enjoy historical romance.
I received an ARC of this book with no expectations on my part. This review is my honest opinion and mine alone.
Lynn Donovan gives us a twist on the Pinkerton bride, an undercover undercover agent. Marla is a bright young lady wanting to make her name in the journalism world. Like many new reporters, even today, she wants to write something besides human interest stories. She has a good idea; she just trusts the wrong person. I fell in love with the description of Pryce, possibly because without a picture and just the description, she might have been describing my husband. I loved the extent they were willing to go to catch their murderer. Also, I loved being able to revisit with Bronco and Charlotte, they were two of my favorite agents.
Marla is a reporter who wants recognition for her writing. Pryce Adams has managed to be a Pinkerton agent and escape the marriage clause. When Marla shows up in Denver, Pryce and Bronco are in house preparing to solve a murder, but they need a third. It is fun to watch as Marla married Pryce a man her senior by twenty years, a man who she fancies immediately, yet she must portray his daughter. The award winning character is Bronco, who must play a corpse. Well written plot gives us opted to think about in this adventure thriller.
I think this was the first Pinkerton Matchmaker book I've read where they wer so different in age. I think it needed to be in the series! There's a smaller population, maybe, that might appreciate this, but it's still a subject that should be written about! My high school friend married a man 20 years her senior. She was always considered an old soul. As far as my review, I really enjoyed everything except the type of case, and the "ghost". I do wish there was a follow up, even if just a short one-way conversation, about her response to her newspaper boss.
Marla is an reporter but she has enough of the stories she has to write, now she wants a serious story. She decides to apply as a Pinkerton agent so she can write about that. Pryce has avoided to train an agent but now he meets Marla, who is 20 years younger, but she perfect for the job. But what will happen after the case is solved and he discovers that the had a second agenda? This is such a fun story because they are using some special tools to solve the case.
Marla is not the most likable of the Lady Pinkertons, she is focused, determined and very driven to prove herself...but this frequently makes her very blinkered and oblivious to the repercussions of her actions. She has some very difficult lessons to learn, but Pryce seems like the perfect person to help her through these, he is observant, patient, kind and head over heels for his new partner! I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Wonderful murder mystery romance and I was engaged from the start! Marla a reporter is paired with a seasoned agent twenty years older for training on a sting operation.
A wonderful story. The characters were so believable. I love when other characters cross over into another story, brings back memories of their storyline. I simply love this series. Keep them coming. Thanks
Enjoy very much. I wonder if the Pinkerton Agents really had their stories put in dime novel series? The made up mystery was great, but albeit a bit much could have given him a heart attack!
This is an exciting story with quite a few twists. However I felt that the wrap up was a bit rushed. You should read it yourself and see what you think. Enjoy 👍💜
Although being a writer, Marla is stuck reporting on fluff pieces for her newspaper. She comes up with the idea to go undercover as a Pinkerton as a job for the paper while also getting material she can use for another book. She is paired with Pryce, a man old enough to be her father. A bank has been robbed and the banker brutally murdered but all the evidence is circumstantial. So Pryce and Marla pose as Father and Daughter to try to get a confession out of the suspects. I thought it was interesting the Marla had a different reason for joining the Pinkertons. But I wasn't crazy about their posing as Father and Daughter. It seemed a bit weird that having that much age difference and pretending that type of relationship would still foster romantic feeling between them. It also seems a bit weird that of all the previous agents and characters, Bronco is popping up now in quite a few of the books. He's not my favourite so it would be nice to see some of the other agents as well... I don't like anything supernatural and was a bit worried about this book as somewhere mentioned a ghost story. But it was fine. Nothing supernatural, thankfully. A clean, sweet romance.
