Mark Johnson didn’t want a wife. Then he saw Evangeline and she stole his heart. Impossible as it may seem, he loved her. Evangeline stared at him, but there was no love coming from her eyes. But to go along with Archie’s deal, she’d marry him. Besides, she had plans. She needed to be a Pinkerton agent, and like it or not, she needed Mark. Another sweet and clean historical romance with some fun, faith, and always a happily-ever-after.
But I am not sure I like Evangeline, I realise she is under stress but she is very cold and dismissive of Mark, secretive and expects trust without giving any in return. She is not my favourite Pinkerton Agent. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Patricia PacJac Carroll has definitely put a new twist on reasons to join the Pinkertons. Evangeline wants to break her brother out of jail and keep him from being hung. She just fails to disclose this to Archie, the agent in charge of the Denver Pinkerton's office or to her training agent/husband, Mark. Things don't go quite as she plans. Another twist is that usually the two agents start out hating marriage and each other, but in this case we have a smitten groom and an uninterested bride. This was a fun book to read and I enjoyed it.
When Mark first sees Evangeline it is love at first sight and he volunteers to marry her and to train her. She however does not love him and has ulterior motives. - Babs
Evangeline becomes a Pinkerton in order to save her twin brother. He's in prison but writes that he's innocent. She'll do whatever it takes to save him. Mark takes one look at Evangeline and falls deeply in love, which I thought was too much. She sneaks off the train to go rescue her brother and Mark helps her once he finds her. Is it possible her brother has changed? Is he involved in the gang they were actually sent to track down? Will she fall in love with her new partner as much as he's already in love with her? The story was interesting. A clean, sweet romance. I just found the instant love was too unbelievable. Also, her actions would have had much more serious repercussions than everything sliding under the mat and being fine.... but it was an alright read still. Kind of fun to run into Tom and Sabrina from #30 as well.
Mark loves Evangeline with all his heart so marrying her comes easy, but she does not return his feelings and she has an underlying reason for becoming a Pinkerton. Can his love be enough to help them so!be a case?
