Blood might be thicker than water, but my blood only spells trouble.
It’s a new semester at Bloodline Academy but I’m the same old Sophie Mwansa. I’m still the low-magic kitchen witch at the bottom of the totem pole. The rare human in a school full of shifters, Nephilim, Fae and vampires. And they look at me like I’m their worst nightmare.
All except Max Thompson, alpha lion shifter, who looks at me like I’m his next meal.
Supernaturals have a long memory. It’s the immortality thing you see. Nobody is going to forget anytime soon that my great-grandfather harvested supernatural souls to fuel his sorcery.
When a magical ailment befalls the students, guess where they come looking with their pitchforks? I’ll need everything in my magical arsenal to get out of this one alive. But if I reveal the source of my magic, it’ll mean a one way ticket to the supernatural prison.
Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place. Who said school was easy? Welcome to Bloodline Academy. If it doesn’t kill you, it’s a great place to study.

Sophie is a strong, stubborn character when she needs to be. She also a typical teenage girl, who doesn't want to be accepted? The thing is, how can she be accepted when her gramps is a famous serial killer and she inherited his magic? This is a great story. It has some violence in it, but it's way less than on your everyday video gay any not graphically explained. Sophie is a kitchen witch. Kitchen witch! That is new and unique, cool idea. There is action in this story and a little mystery to be solved. I am excited to learn more about Sophie, Max and even Mac's little brother Charlie. The thing that has me a little distressed is that when I read the blurb to the next three books, there is no mention of these starting characters. You won't be able to NOT like Sophie immediately.
Reading this right after Bloodline Alchemy was a good thing, since both of these books are about Sophie. Events mentioned in Bloodline Alchemy were ones that occured in this, frankly, Sophie is an underated character so to see how strong she really was while she had no friends amazed me. This book takes place before Lex's adventures in Bloodline Academy so keep that in mind.
Terrific start. She is a kitchen witch with not much power but her grandfather committed many crimes that are still talked about. Thus she's more or less a hermit and now has to hide the fact that she's got his diary. Not how he killed, ate and used others in his potions but just the simple everyday things. However when her roommate is attacked, she is manhandled by the deputy head and the guards even though she was nowhere near and can prove it. Add in a shifter attack, a defence, souvenirs, the school falling under a malady, her potion helping her and the shifter who attacked her safe and demons. Can she fight them with her brand of low magic and what will it cost her? Wee written, nice plot and characters that vibrate with life. A great read. Hope the next one lives up to this start.
Sophie's story is really good. I wasn't sure if I would like it, but I actually liked her more in this than the other Bloodline books. The background really gives her depth & fullness as a character. I was wondering how the author would manage to make Sophie a hero, connect with Max, and still have her be an outcast when Lex arrives, but she worked it out neatly & the story is very well done!
I would have liked a little more closure to the plot line with the deputy headmaster - part of the joy of fiction is having karma catch up with the bad guys
*Clean romance level: sweet kisses *Language: minor use of common swear words
A very good story. I really liked Sophie and Max grew on me too although we didn't get to really know him as well. ****possible spoilers*** i thought this was going to have a little romance and while Sophie found Max very handsome and was a but attracted their relationship only went as far as friends. She also found one of the Nephilim very attractive also although she didn't get to know him in the book. Maybe she will have a romance later but as of now she has finally made a friend who may possibly someday evolve into more.
Wow, It was too short but it packs a really big story. I Loved this book and there was so much going on. It's so sad 😢that a girl who only wanted to be accepted gets treated so badly for something that happened before she was even born. Her Grandfather was the bad guy and it sucks that they can't let what happened in the past, stay in the past. It's a good thing that not everyone keeps on the party line and is able to think for themselves. This looks like a Wonderful series and I can hardly wait to get started on the next books .
You know that wonderful feeling you get when you read a new book and it exceeds all expectations? You blitz through the pages and before you know it, you're invested. That feeling is only surpassed when you realise there is a whole series to digest! I have well and truly fallen in love with the Bloodline Academy world . I havnt felt this way since Mead's Vampire Academy and I'm stoked that there are more books to follow, bring on January!
Okay is it the most fantastical fantasy in the history of fantasm, well no but it's a cute story, the characters are well developed and the world is interesting enough that I might just want to get to know this world a little more and learn more about the characters as well as the types of magics and creatures exist
Love this series. But I absolutely love the perspective from other characters in said series. To see into Sophie's mind, her feelings, and her struggles made me love this character more. I found out there's more to Sophie than I thought. From where she was, to where she is now. Grab your copy and take a sneak peek into the life and trails of Sophie!
I started this yesterday evening. Couldn't stop reading i was exhausted getting up for work this morning and finished the last 3 chapters while on a treadmill after work. So it that doesn't tell you how much I enjoyed it I don't know what will. Also reading at the gym gets you some funny looks. Still on the treadmill while I write this and about to start book 1.
I thought there would be more of a relationship building with Max and Sophie, but I was disappointed. I would like to read about their relationship from either one's perspective. 2.65 stars, happy reading!
I loved this book it was a great entry in to the world of bloodline academy! Sophie had my sympathy from the beginning but proved to be a badass when she needed to be which I loved!
