Anna Strong seems finally to have achieved the right balance between her vampire and human lives. She’s looking forward to a normal summer with her husband and step son when an old enemy from the past appears--the vampire Chael--and what he reveals changes everything. Someone is writing Anna’s story under the guise of fiction and threatens to expose the vampire world unless Anna grants the author what she desires most…a vampire existence of her own.
Life becomes even more complicated when her business partner, David, and their boss become victims of a Ponzy scheme. But it’s more than money at stake. Someone is killing off the investors one by one. It’s up to Anna and David to find out who before their boss becomes the next victim.

A short and sweet return to the world of Anna Strong. It’s been a while since the previous series book came out, but Stein weaves in enough backstory easily to remind me of what happened before. While the main plot was not as riveting as some from earlier books (and had nothing to do with the supernatural world), I really enjoyed the chance to revisit some favorite characters and I hope Stein will follow up with more stories in the future.
I've been doing a lot of re-reading in this year of Covid and one of the series I did was this series, the Anna Strong books. I didn't realize this book was out, thought the series had been done, so it was a great surprise to get to read this new book to the series.
Anna feels more settled in this one. Her relationship with Frey and John John a done deal, are there some hiccups, sure, but there will always be. Anna also seems to have smoothed things out with David and her work relationship with him. They managed to go on quite a few crazy adventures in this one, but they were able to figure things out and do what needed to be done.
Anna's vampire life was a bit messy this time around, but then it tends to be. What looked like it could have been a big deal, ended up not and Anna got rid of one of the vampires that has been a thorn in her side. During all of that drama, Anna managed to repair her relationship with Culebra, who himself seems like he has found happiness a second time.
I love this series. Unfortunately it was too long in between. I found myself lost with why I loved Anna. Not remembering all the world building. I think if I binged to this point I could have better appreciated the story.
I love dual narration. However, I found the the male narrator didn’t differentiate his voice early on and I was lost to who was speaking. Also there was a point when I believe his dialogue was missing. It wasn’t edited in and I missed something.
Overall it was okay. I think this is one of my favorite series, but it’s been years in between and I didn’t feel as connected to the characters.
I have enjoyed Anna's adventures since she made her first appearance. My
Anna Strong has finally achieved the balance between her vampire and human lives. She is looking forward to a normal family summer with her husband, Frey, and her stepson John-John. But because her life is never simple, an old enemy surfaces, and what he has to tell her changes everything. Someone has gotten the details of Anna's life after her encounter and has written a book as fiction and is threatening to expose all vampires unless they get what they want.
To complicate the situation even further, David, her business partner, and their Boss Duke become the victims of a Ponzi scheme. There seems to be more than money at stake however, someone is killing off the investors and Anna and David need to find out who before he and Duke become the next targets.
The writing is cool and crisp with the snappy dialogue I have come to expect from these characters. I did feel that the Frey and John-John storyline could have almost been dumped because it really didn't add anything other than giving Anna something to worry about once in a while as she followed leads.
This is my introduction to the Anna Strong Chronicles. Anna, her husband Frey a shapeshifter, and her partner David run a bail bond/bounty hunter service tracking down bail skippers for legitimate purposes and rogue vampires on the side. There are thirteen tribes in the vampire world, Chael is the leader of the Middle-Eastern cabal, Anna is the leader over all of them; The Chosen One. The vampire society is decentralized, each tribe governs itself. The thirteen only gather for a watershed event. The last one was Anna assuming the position of The Chosen One. The story begins with a paranormal author, Janet Carlisle writing a book that has Chael troubled. He contacts Anna, explaining that Carlisle is writing about her. Where she lives, her son, her husband, and her day job; everything except her name. Carlisle must be stopped. Plot number two has David and his financial partner Duke involved in a Ponzi scheme. David is an ex-pro football player who had amassed quite a bit of wealth over his career. If that’s not enough, Duke is implicated in the death of the Ponzi financial advisor. Another stranger was present at the meeting with Duke and the advisor. Now the stranger and the money are gone. We’ll follow Anna and David as they fit the puzzle pieces together to solve the multiple crimes. Janet Carlisle will prove to be quite different than first presumed. Three.point.five. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This is the first book in this series that I’ve listened to. I must say it’s a great stand alone, I wish I had listened/read the books before as I really enjoyed the characters but I was not lost in the past books storyline’s. Great performance from both narrators.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. After all this years finally a new novel. it didn't disappointed but it's not enough. There's plenty of story to tell so lets pick it up jeanne
I'm totally with Chael on this one. I was so stoked to have more Anna Strong, and this was just, meh. I didn't particularly care about either of the story arcs. The one with the writer could have been pretty awesome and started that way, then it was just a "fucking really" moment.
Long awaited book of Anna, and was worth the wait. Anna is just as strong and powerful as she's ever been. We get to see Frey, John John, David, Culebra, and Adelita all in action without too much reminder of the past books. A couple of different story lines are running at the same time with some surprising results. Was hard to put it down, lots of action and Anna holding on to her humanity was rewarding. Hopefully not so long for another story.
Jeanne’s writing is as solid as ever. A good addition to the Anna Strong series.
The primary storyline regarding one of the bondsmen that Anna and David work with is great. Ferreting out what is happening has some danger and enough twists to keep you turning the page. Good stuff.
The secondary plotline involving a novelist and Chael and set more in the vampire world feels a bit forced. It evens out by the end. I just felt that some the changes a couple of characters, one an old favorite, go through were a bit too sudden to really resonate.
If you are this far into the series you will like this book, I know I did.
This is a great beginning for the next series for Anna and family! I was one of those fans that wanted more Anna. Thanks for all the great reading Jeanne! I hope to see many more. 😀
