He put a spell on me... Or at least he must have, because none of this makes any sense. None of this can be real. I’m not a mage with magical powers…I’m just me. Ellie Sutton. Your average, everyday seventeen-year-old high school human student. My biggest concerns are bullies, failed exams, and missing the express subway twice in one day.
Magic is something I read about in comic books, it’s not real. People don’t move things with their minds or summon lightning with their hands. I don’t care what Stellan Wentworth says. It doesn’t matter that he’s breathtakingly beautiful or that his eyes sparkled when I challenge him. He’s the kind of hero found in romance novels, not my real life. I’m dreaming, I have to be.
Because if I’m not, then what he’s telling me is true. This gorgeous, terrifying world is in turmoil…and if I don’t learn how to use my magic overnight…they’ll all die.
Featuring a kickass heroine, forbidden love, and magic you’ll wish was real, fans of The Mortal Instruments, Twilight, or Harry Potter will love Chandelle LaVaun and Megan Montero’s brand new urban fantasy series!
Pick up Midnight Mage and enter The Night Realm today!
Started good but then it went downhill for me and I had a hard time picking the book up after awhile so DNF... just saw that I had dnfed another book of this author's because of the same thing so she just might not be for me.
Chandelle definitely had a hand in this, and yet it lacked some of her magic. I frequently put the book down. I went to sleep and when I woke couldn't remember what happened in the story. Never have stopped one of her books! Read cover to cover nonstop. The basic storyline was good but somehow just didn't quite hit the mark. I liked the nerdy girl and her prince charming. Liked his dukes and her friends. The villain was evil enough maybe a little too sinister. Hated the king, queen and the slimey advisor. There were hidden surprises and a real cliffhanger ending. Re-read and really enjoyed it! I had just finished Rotten Witch and was in the correct mindset so it flowed this time!
What in Hades hell just happened. I’m totally shocked and I need book two ASAP . Ellie was minding her own business play spin the bottle at a Halloween party when hottie Stellan happens to be her kiss. (#mistakesWhereMake #whatTheBloodyHell) All of a sudden she wasn’t in Kansas(New York) anymore and she was on mage island with all hell braking lose. Want more then read this awesomely exciting book/ series.

Ms. LaVaun and Ms. Montero are both amazing authors but when they came together to create Midnight Mage.... HOLY AMAZBALLS!!!
Right away you were sucked into the storyline and instantly connected with the characters. They were fun and quirky. Then you turn the page and it literally hits the ground running.
Midnight Mage is full of heart stopping action, parts that make you laugh of loud, swoon worthy moments that make your heart melt and an ending that leaves you breathless. This right here is pure literary magic!
Ellie is at a Halloween party with her friends. She is having fun being with them. They are playing a game when she sees a complete stranger. She is drawn to him which unlike her. Ellie wants to talk to him but was never got the chance. Ellie is separated from her friends, ends up somewhere she never would believe. Ellie is about to start a journey she only never thought was real. Ellie will have to trust the people around her to help her on her journey.
This book was well written, grabs you from the first page. The authors have introduced a wonderful set of characters. The world they have written is well crafted, it is not over done. It is a refresing take on magic and the different supernaturals. You will be on quite the ride through this book and the ending is good. I didn't go into any details because I am not going to spoil it for anyone. I really recommend reading this book. I can't wait for book 2.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest and voluntary review.
This journey begins like any other, at a high school party that gives us a glimpse into the life of Ellie before her world gets turned upside down. Little does Ellie know a chance encounter and one broken rule will shift her entire life’s path into an epic journey. The road ahead is filled with battles, secrets, and surprises while still having heartfelt and hilarious parts to balance the story. The world is enthralling with the rich detail while not overloading Ellie or the reader along the way to discovering this new universe we’ve ventured into. The ending will leaving you ready dive right into the next one as quickly as possible. The journey has only just begun so buckle in for the adventure of a lifetime.
This is a brand new world from the wonderful minds of Chandelle LaVaun and Megan Montero. I was quickly pulled in from the beginning with that fateful game of spin the bottle and all of Ellie’s friends. Things quickly turn upside down for Ellie when she finds herself in another world with her hottie spin the bottle partner, and new friend Melanie. Between bad guys being after her, learning new skills, and finding out soulmates are a real thing, Ellie is in for the adventure of her life! I highly recommend this book!
It took ages to finish! It wasn’t the worst book, but I have to admit it also wasn’t the best… it totally reminded me of my fanfiction times rs heck it even reminded me of MY 13 year old writing…. And let me tell you, those were not good writings hahahaha
It’s just that I felt like everything was rushed, they always made sure to express how “powerful” she was… i mean in my “maturity” (if I can call it that lol) at reading, I have read many pretty amazing books that despite the heroine being powerful, it wasn’t this screamed on, you know?! I felt like the book needed more subtlety 🤷🏻♀️
About the love interest… I couldn’t care about Stellan whatsoever… I don’t knowww maybe having those POVs in his perspective wasn’t the best choice because he was pretty bland and forgettable and like too lovestruck and angsty!!! - even dumb at times kkkkk I’m used to different role models I don’t know kkkk like he is the prince to this kingdom, one day about to become king and he doesn’t even care to participate in the kindoms consel meeting or to question his father’s leadership!!! Like grow some backbone boyyyyy!!
About the insta-love… I get that it was a soulmate thing but it just felt forced meh.
The story was nothing new… the author even quoted some XXI century references to really good novels like “it feels like a mix between game of thrones and marvel…” like guurlll not at all kakakakaka Shame
The marvel references were also very forced and the whole “nerdy” thing for the MC was forced as well
I don’t mean to slam the book - it had its moments - it just wasn’t my cup of tea 🤷🏻♀️
It about this girl that magically transports from NYC to this whole dark age world that has colorful magic and she discovers she is the chosen one, the “Stone something” that is destined to save the world with her all powerful magic and bla bla bla we’ve heard of this plot before… and the characters were forgettable. Shame.
It ends on a cliffhanger and even that was not enough to make me want to read the rest, because it just took too long to finish, and time is of the essence so that I might have a chance at finishing my reading challenge (not holding my breath in that kkk)
Chosen One who knows nothing of her heritage, yet controls unimaginable power? Check. Hot guy who is also powerful and a little mysterious? Check. A dangerous world in need of saving? Also check.
I think it's cute that the New York native protagonist is named Eloise. She is spunky, yet vulnerable due her soft heart and inexperience. I like her well enough, but she and her love interest both come off as a little generic. Stellan has a British accent for no discernable reason other than to make him hotter. The more minor characters, especially Melanie, are more interesting.
The world-building is fine. There are other magical realms where mages, vampires, fae, and shifters live. The mage world has some weird plants and lots of black cats. More time is spent on history and politics, but it's still kind of vague and rather overwhelmingly dangerous. The whole looming apocalypse didn't especially appeal to me. Maybe you'll like it more.
The plot is mostly introductory for the series, but there is a bad guy they have to fight. The big battle with him was pretty cool, but the book didn't end where I expected it to so there would be a cliffhanger. That ending was really confusing. I'm actually not sure what happened.
Overall, the book was entertaining. I'll probably read the next one.
Whoa what a roller coaster ride – it is what I have come to expect from Chandelle and Megan, and their new writing collaboration does not disappoint. The story jumps into action pretty quickly, with lots of world building info. The Heroine accidentally stumbles into a world of danger and magic, with a wide range of dark and light characters with magical gifts. Love that both worlds have supportive and caring friendships for Ellie.
Highly recommend this story packed with adventure, non-stop action, paranormal magic and unfolding mysteries, with a side of romance. Readers who enjoyed Chandelle and Megan’s other series will LOVE this one. The story ends on a GULP heart-stopping cliffhanger, so eagerly awaiting Book 2.
Dynamic Duo and Besties to boot- Chandelle LaVaun and Megan Montero have teamed up to give the world a whole new realm to explore: The Night Realm. I am here for this! Midnight Mage is the first book to release and it sets the stage. The world building is extensive and intriguing. It’s Halloween and what can some cosplaying high schoolers want more than to win the costume contest at the party of the year? That is what Ellie and her friends are hoping to do, which is why they came to Tyler’s party in the first place. So how exactly did she end up playing spin-the-bottle and who was that guy she just kissed? And some kiss that must have been because all around her the hustle and bustle of New York City has gone quiet. The skyscrapers are gone and who the heck is that chasing her? Ellie’s world just got turned upside down… where is she? And can she really do magic? Enter The Night Realm and find out… Ellie is proud of her geekdom status, her friends are fabulously hers and they get her. Her bestie is extremely popular, and that is just how Ellie likes it. She can join in and still avoid the center of the stage. Until a fateful game of spin the bottle, which has her stumbling into a different realm. Now although scared, Ellie knows that she has to suck it up buttercup. An evil guy is after her and instead of crying in a corner. Ellie is determined to try her best to master this new magic in her, she wants to survive and get back home. Imagine growing up in a kingdom that has tyrants as rulers. The kind of ruler that cares only for themselves. Now, add in that those rulers are your parents- who you are ashamed of. Now you have the mindset of Prince Stellan. Yes, an actual freaking prince. Let me tell you, dang… cause Stellan is the whole freaking package. When he finds Ellie in his realm, he has to help her. Help her to know his world, know her power, and know just who he is. Rebellion is coming to his realm and it will take both of them to finish the fight. The secondary characters at times steal the show, but only for a second or two. Nickle has a big personality, but it doesn’t overshadow Ellie’s. The dukes sense of humor and pure enjoyment of life makes you hope that there is a novella coming out staring them and well you. Melanie’s gentleness with introducing Ellie to the world and her ability to speak geek leave you wondering…just who or what she is. Araqiel’s guidance of how to overcome the obstacles (trying not to give spoilers) is well just hilarious. #Tacosforlife The world building is spectacularly done, without it being cumbersome to learn. Ellie and Stellan make a fabulous team, one with mutual respect and a fair amount of chemistry. The action scenes are fun, with a fair amount of whole crap who will win in the end. Speaking of endings…holy cliffhanger, batman- so unfair. I seriously kept trying to turn the page on my kindle to find out what happens next.
My Rating 5 out of 5 stars Favorite Quote “Mistakes were made.” Other People Nickle- Human bestie, with a big personality LaDarious- enemy of the crown Melanie- mage, mentor to Ellie Shylock- Duke, Prince Stellan’s cousin Weston- Duke, Prince Stellan’s cousin Maren- mage, runs a shelter Araqiel- angel

Gahh, I wanted to love this. I loved the idea of mages and their different forms of magic, the different realms and species within them! I also really enjoyed the pop culture references until they just got to be a little too much.
I didn’t realise this was a YA/coming of age book until I actually read the blurb at about 50% (cover read lol) or I probably wouldn’t have picked it up. The cover is quite misleading in my own opinion.
There were question marks missing, an awful lot of italics and capital letters in weird places (I think suppose to be yelling but they didn’t have an exclamation point?) that made me grit my teeth. The plot and events were very dramatic and I just found the pacing too fast and abrupt to grasp onto the story or connect with the characters throughout.
This new series has a world of magical realms and adventures that any fantasy fan will devour. Chandelle and Megan have created such a vast and extensive world that you'll love watching it unfold from the start. The characters are mind blowing good, and the dialogue is spectacular. The plot moves at a pace where there is lots of action but also giving you a sense of satisfaction with all the details and explanations. I loved the different realms and the different type of magical beings. This story will have you laughing, anxious, screaming and in shock... the unpredictable scenes will leave you in awe. The best book qualities are in this new series. I need book two! Love love love!
This is my type of girl squad. Chandelle and Megan are the peferct writing combo. Plus they are both wicked when it comes to the end of one of their the books; it always leaves you wanting more. This was an amazing introduction to their first joint series. Ellie is at a Halloween party and decides to playbspin the bottle what could go wrong with a little kiss. Only crazy hotness that leads her to a different realm and new discoveries plus a crazy psycho. Together Ellie and Stallen will need each other in order to fix the realm. This book will take you on a journey. Love and war are at the helm. Who will win, who are the players. The cliffhanger will leave wanting the next book now.
I had high expectations for this co-write because I love Chantelle LaVaun’s Coven series and Megan Montero’s Royal Witch court series. They SLAYED it. Killed it. I loved the way this series kicked off! It had everything I like about each of their writing styles, witty pop culture references and even a rant about a certain Marvel character, (I see you, Chantelle, I giggled the whole time). I also love how their heroines are never just one thing. They show a multifaceted character from the beginning with a lovable amount of weird and quirky that makes me wish they were real. I am anxiously waiting for their next installment in this series.
Oh my god this book! It is such an amazing read, I couldn’t put it down. It blew my mind. The plot, characters, tension, and forbidden love? Who wouldn’t want to pick this up to read? So so good. Make sure you pick this up to read, you won’t regret it! Chandelle and Megan did a fantastic job! And the references will leave you cracking up laughing. This is a great series building book and I can’t wait for the next one and neither will you!
Halloween Night is always a wide ride, but one that is going to change your life? Now that just makes it more epic. Ellie and Stellan are now officially some of my favorite characters written and I can’t wait to see where their story goes.
Written by Chandelle LaVaun & Megan Montero. What isn't to love about this book? It has everything! Awesome Marvel, Jedi and Comic Con references. Great characters: Ellie-main character has a lot of magic & stumbles into a different realm. Stella-main character and super cute, with lime green eyes. Melanie-great combat mage for the rebellion. Weston-goofy best friend of Stellan. Shylock-smart best friend of Stellan's who comes up with the plans. Anyway what a wonderful magic filled world these authors have put together for you. Marvels that you've never heard of before. You won't want to miss this series especially if you believe in true everlasting love.
Midnight Mage is an entertaining young adult urban fantasy that has magic and mayhem occurring across a number of realms. Ellie is enjoying a party on Halloween when she takes a quick toilet break and accidently travels to the mages’ realm. Steffan is the heroic Prince of the Mage Realm determined to stop the war within his homeland, who had given up on ever finding his soulmate. This was an interesting premise for a story that hooked me more the further I read.
Midnight Mage is a book about finding one’s destiny and stepping up to take it, and is set mostly a parallel world that mirrors our own. The author’s do a great job at painting a contrast between the dark age, war-torn times in the mages’ realm and modern pop culture references to our own realm. The plot packs action with romance and a hint of mystery ending in a cliffhanger that leaves you looking for the next book.
Midnight Magic is a fast-paced realm jumping urban fantasy. I would recommend it for readers who enjoy urban fantasy, mages & magic, soulmates, parallel worlds and books that involve stepping forward to take the path that destiny has laid out.
This story is absolutely everything. From Ellie and Stellan, who are seriously amazing, to just the entire story in general I was completely and utterly hooked. These two authors are my absolute, all time favorite and the fact that they wrote this story together is just the best bonus to me! Ellie has no clue as to who or what she really is and when she meets Stellan they just feel this connection. I enjoyed this book a lot. I truly can not wait for the next book after the way this ended, but it is so worth it!
What a freakin wild ride! Another amazingly well written book that takes you on a journey to new realms. Ellie thinks she is human when she accidentally travels to the second realm after a bathroom break. She ends up in the middle of a war in a foreign land and she meets new people who help her to understand what is going on and where her path leads. Beware the cliffhanger it will have you begging for more. Destinies, Mates, magic and more fill this book with lots of goodies to explore! Fantastic new story! Cannot wait for the next book! 💜🖤
Two awesome authors! I have loved everything each of these ladies have written individually, I'm not surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. The world building is superb, the characters are well written, and the plot is intriguing. Great beginning to a new series/world. I'm not one for spoilers, but I will say there is a cliffhanger, although I would expect nothing less from my favorite evil masterminds. You did great ladies, can't wait to see what you have in store for us!
I absolutely loved this book! I loved the entire premise from the first teaser I read. The book lived up to the promise of the teaser and so much more! It has all the tried and true paranormal elements, but they've all been presented in a way that is fresh, exciting, and a lot of fun! My favorite part was probably all the little geeky tidbits thrown in to the book in a way that enhanced the story and felt like fun easter eggs as I read. Ellie is awesome, Stellan is hot, and I cannot wait for book two!
Never read a book by Montero but I love LaVauns elemental magic series so I gave this a go.
It was alright. I wasn’t Gaga over it though. Only speaking in regards to LaVauns books but it’s like they tried to cram and throw in the good elements of previous Books into one instead of trying to tell a good story. I had a hard time connecting to the characters and the plot. Lots of Harry Potter/Marvel references that got old. I was speed reading just so it would end. It’s not horrible. Like I’m sure there are people who would enjoy this. It just wasn’t for me.
It all started one night at a party during a game of Spin the Bottle.
Ellie is a nerd that has decided to go out of her comfort zone tonight, little did she know she was about to go WAY out of her comfort zone. She spins the bottle and it lands on a guy that just walked through the door, Stellan. Ellie walks up to Stellan and his cousins says, "Mistakes were made." and just dives in and kisses him. Her life took a drastic turn from there.....
Ellie goes to a hotel to use the restroom and instead of stepping out into New York she steps out in a whole different world. Ellie finds herself in Second Realm or the Mage Realm and in the middle of a war, basically. Now, she is finding out that everything she thought is wrong. She is not a human, there is not only humans on earth, and she is supposed to save her realm.
Stellan is the prince in Second Realm, but he is also part of a rebellion against his parents. Second Realm is dying and they are trying everything to save it. There is a prophecy of the Stone Keeper saving the realm, but they have yet to find them. Little did Stellan know that his trip to a party in First Realm would not only introduce him to his soulmate, but also the Stone Keeper.
With the help of his cousins and Melanie, Ellie and Stellan have to find the ingredients for a potion to save their realm while fighting off Ladarious, who thinks he is supposed to rule Second Realm. In order to get all the ingredients they need they will have to visit all the realms; Human Realm, Vampire Realm, Fae Realm, Shifter Realm, and of course Mage Realm. The stakes are high, they need to stay together, and the clock is ticking. What could possibly go wrong???
I was very intrigued from the beginning of this book and could not put it down! I loved all the Marvel references, and all the nerdy talk. I loved how authentic Ellie's reaction was to everything. I mean obviously anyone would believe they're dreaming when they end up on a magic world. The building of the relationship between Stellan and Ellie was great as well. I mean they realize there is a strong attraction and need to be with each other, but they also want to take the time and get to know each other. It's really sweet with them growing up in different worlds. Him being very chivalrous but also struggling with the want to kiss and touch her all the time. Definite 5 star for me and I can't wait to finish the series.
This book was a bit slow at first and felt a bit thrown together in the beginning. There was a lot of things happening but very little explaining going on. Even her going missing was not really examined enough and the characters were lacking apart from Melanie who seemed free spirited and she was fighting for a cause. There was very little backstory about the kingdom and the realm so it was hard to be invested in the characters and even Lardarious felt one dimensional.
It's a good storyline, I'm interested, but the constant references to other characters from other books an movies get a bit annoying. An I know chandelle is one of the authors but quests an riddles again? I enjoyed them in the coven series just not sure I'll enjoy it in this series. I just feel like it's been done an been done well an it's a bit of a copy cat kinda thing. But in saying all this, I did enjoy the story itself. I put the book down several times as it just wasn't holding my attention as much but I'm hoping the next book is good or I may have to DnF it.

Absolutely fantastic! Great start to a co-written book series. Ellie is great. Finding out she’s a mage & in another realm? I’d freak out too. But she was tough. Yes she freaked out for 3 minutes then she was down with it. Found her soulmate? Took that news like a champ. Stellan is the kind of man I’d fall for. Characters & the world is very well written & I can’t wait to see how Ellie’s story unfolds.
Seriously? Twists, turns, read until you can’t see anymore or stay awake. This is what you get from either one of these authors separately. Together? Evil, witchy geniuses!! And that ending? WTH?? This again is another fan freaking tabulous book. The characters are so real and the story line so amazing..you don’t want it to end. And again where you ended it? Seriously? Congratulations ladies, great book!! Had me all the way!! Thank you.
The combination of two superpowers results in an amazingly delicious story. Chandelle and Megan put all their signatures all over the narrative. This is a story that brings us the pleasure of reading through it breathlessly. The incredible scenery along with the fast pacing events hold the readers from the very beginning. And the cliffhanger surpassed anyone’s expectations. Brilliant and well written.
I loved the book, the characters, the plot, etc. But I am really fed up having to wait months for thenext chapter. Bythe time it arrives, I have forgotten half of what I read in the first book. Get your act together, at least have the sequel ready to go without months unbetween. Turns me off to reading these type series until they have all been written. Sorry, but I am sure I am not alone in this.
