Project Hindsight

Rate this book
In the 1970's, the U.S. government began experimentation with remote viewing. In the mid-1990's, the program was shut down after a review revealed that there was not sufficient evidence to prove that remote viewing yielded any actionable intelligence.
At least that is what the government told the public. On the fourth sublevel of Mount Weather, the program, code name Project Hindsight , continued with great success, until one of their viewers did the impossible and escaped, taking with her the secrets the government would kill to keep.

Dita (you all know Dita, right?), and I were reading this book at the same time. Upon reaching the 10% mark, we both commented about the great quality of the writing.

Upon finishing, it appears we were both pretty impressed (hint: she gave it a 5 star rating).

You guys...

This is not a genre I'd typically choose for myself, but I was so unexpectedly pleased with what I was reading, I finished it within a 24 hour period.

In my experience, government conspiracy stories tend to be overly complicated; to the point I have to keep going back and re-reading passages trying to figure out what I missed. This story is not at all like that. It's clear, precise, and very much a character driven thriller. It's gripping in the most satisfying way.

Even better, "remote viewing" is a real thing and Mount Weather actually exists. Pajak clearly did his homework.

Going into the final 10% of the novel, this was a solid 4-star read for me...but that ending! I was not expecting that ending. And I just have to applaud Steven Pajak for his ability to absolutely shock the hell out of me. I read so much, I've become immune to most twists...not this one.

I know many of the people who follow my reviews probably don't typically read this genre either...but I suggest giving it a chance. I suspect you'll be pleasantly surprised.

4.5 stars rounded up.

What an exciting read this was! It started off kinda slow, I thought. It felt like the author spent a little too much time trying to establish the relationship between the two main characters, and I would have preferred he just got straight to the action. But once it got there it didn’t let up!

And speaking of main characters, I gotta say I didn’t care much for Joe and Rachel. Hark and the characters he encountered were FAR more interesting to me. Reading from these points of view is when the pages flew by; reading from Joe and Rachel’s POV is usually when I took a break.

Like many of the characters, I’m a military man. And it’s very obvious to me when an author’s only experience with the military is cheesy movies. But I’m 99% certain this author has some active duty experience under his belt. The dialogue, descriptions, and terminology were on point, and that was refreshing to say the least.

The story itself was, to use the cliché, pulse-pounding. I enjoyed most of the characters, and the ending was NOT expected! I didn’t like it at first, but the more I thought about it the more it made sense. I give this one 3.5 stars rounded up to 4! Thank you Dita for recommending this one!

I keep telling myself that "It's just a thrilling novel about our government" but Pajak's writing makes me lose a little bit of sleep nonetheless!

I thoroughly enjoyed the story, the writing, pacing - Everything!

Don't even try to figure out the climactic conclusion. It will make your head spin!

I love this subject matter and I read this book in one sitting. It's a well-written, fast-paced, psy-ops spy thriller with MK Ultra vibes. Except instead of the CIA's nonconsensual use of drugs and psychological torture as "research," it's the US Army's imprisonment and use of physical and psychological torture to force intelligence-gathering remote viewing "training."

When one of the remote viewers escapes, the chase is on and the action nonstop. To keep this review spoiler-free I can't say anything more, other than: Albert is my favorite character and I highly, highly recommend this book!

Thank you to Sinister Smile Press for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion and review.

This is not my usual genre being primarily into Horror and Fantasy but I'm very glad I got the opportunity to read and review this one as it pulled me in and found it very enjoyable.

Rachel is an escape of a Military operation called Project Hindsight which engaged a chosen few in remote viewing against their will with the use of drugs and physical and mental torture in order to gain intelligence about military targets of interest.
She meets up with Joe who was her partner before she was taken in the program and together they try and avoid capture by the project's higher ups who are desperate to get her back.

A spy thriller at heart, this one went into down directions which I wasn't expecting. The main characters had flaws which made them human, the characters involved were each involved in struggles whether it was personal and professional which made their choices and directions they took more impactful. The ending in particular was a surprise.

This one is definitely one I'd recommend, even if you aren't a reader of this genre, it's well worth the time investment. I'll be reading more of this Author's work too in the future.

Project Hindsight is a secret project involving remote viewing. The government claimed to have halted the project, but that turned out to be false. The experiments and abusive behavior towards the subjects continued. One of them manages to escape, and now the government is scrambling to get her back before she blows their cover.

This book isn’t in a genre I would typically read, but I was pleasantly surprised at how it pulled me in. I found the story line to be very intriguing and I couldn’t wait to learn more about Project Hindsight, especially after Rachel’s escape. This was a very thrilling read with several shocking twists, especially towards the end. Pajak’s writing is great. Lots of details along with characters you’ll care about and others you will absolutely despise. Overall, an enjoyable read. If you like fast-paced books full of suspense, give this one a go!

This is my first book by Steven Pajak, and it won't be my last!

This is the horror story about a person who disappeared and reappears 13 years later, with an incredible, secret story of where she was. I felt the narrator's feelings right alongside him every step of the way, as he detailed his thoughts, feelings, experiences, hesitations- everything- as he tries to accept, understand, and deal with the sudden aftermath that upended his life like an unexpected, but not entirely unwelcomed, tornado.

The last 1/4 of this story was just- chefs kiss- remarkable and perfect. Project Hindsight is a slower burn in the beginning than I usually go for, but the synopsis and then the Author himself, absolutely sold me on reading it and I am So glad that I did! I will definitely be checking out more of Pajak's work!!

The author wrote a compelling plot that seemed believable . Was either ex.military or did a lot of research. The characters was a mixture of some you like and others weren’t your favorite. The audio brought the story to life, and had the clear voice and was enjoyable. Given audio for my voluntary review.
