1872 - The Western frontier is a vast land of opportunities, exploration . . . and dinosaur bones?
Living the life of a nomad wasn’t Hallie Whittier’s first choice. From the time she was young, she learned to go along with her father’s latest adventure. But what she really longed for was a roof and four walls. A home to call her own. Just when she thinks she’s obtained one, Archie Gordon, head agent of the Denver Pinkerton Office, comes to her with a request. Go on a dinosaur fossil hunt with one of his top agents. Oh, and marry him, too. Simple. Or so he thinks.
Jeffrey Moore considers himself a good tracker, and better yet, one of Archie Gordon’s best agents. What he doesn’t consider to be good or right is the mandate that he marry a female agent and train her. When he and Hallie are sent to meet up with a paleontologist and his excavation team in Wyoming Territory, he wonders if this is the case that will do him in. Good thing he’s got Hallie to help him unravel their client's daughter's puzzling behavior. Now all he has to worry about is not getting himself killed by falling off a cliff or getting caught in a buffalo stampede. Or falling in love with his new bride. Who knew that an agent's life could be so hard?
Jeff working one case after another, so he won’t get a case that requires a female. With most having to be a marriage by proxy to get the job done. Jeff luck ran out and he is assigned with Hallie, to over see the man’s daughter at a excavation site. Hallie has been with her father as he search for riches, camping and doesn’t think there is any good men. Could Archie persuade her to do it, and marry Jeff. Another delightful story .
Hallie didn't walk into the Pinkerton Agency looking for a job, she was sent for. She lived with her father who was a gold miner and who hit it big. Now he is off on some new adventure and has left her in their great bit house all alone. When the Pinkerton's call and ask her to help them with an archeological dig she reluctantly agrees. She's tired of sleeping on the ground, in a tent, around tons of men, but she's willing just so she can stop being lonely.
Jeff hated the idea of having to marry to train this female agent, but it doesn't take him long to want to be her protector and then to really be her husband.
The case, watching over the daughter of the man who is running the dig, and she is a handful!
Maybe I read more into it than the author meant, but I felt like there were several unanswered questions. Needless to say though, I enjoyed this dinosaur digging story! Hallie's prayer was a great point in the story! She had been learning from her mother figure about God, but this situation caused her to finally turn to Him like she had been afraid to before! A very realistic moment!
I really like the interactions between Jeff and Hallie, I like that before they meet he is a strong, confident character who is convinced Archie has no idea what he is doing, then he sees her and....Ka-boom! He is a stuttering wreck who has lost his ability to function! But she is wary and it is a delicate dance Jeff has to perform to woo Hallie's trust and love. A great addition to the series which I read on Kindle Unlimited.
Kind of different for a Pinkerton setting. But since we just went to several different modern fossil sites I was interested in reading about some of the earlier of Fossil findings.
Bones, bones n more bones... what kind of bones do u say??? Read this romance to find out what excursion brought these two strangers into a romantice love bubble
Jeff has successfully managed to avoid marrying a new female recruit. Until now. Archie is specifically pleading for Hallie's help on a case. Jeff only knows that her father is wealthy and doesn't think she'd be helpful. But she actually went along on her father's gold hunts and knows all about camp life, which she'd rather forget about. But she can't refuse Archie. So off they head for the dinosaur excavation camp, with the couple from #33 heading to the opposing camp at the same time. I liked that the 2 couples had different assignments even though they were being sent to the same area. Hallie and Jeff are hired by Meg's father to protect her while he finishes his dig. They also need to figure out if the dig is being sabotaged. Meg (#45) was actually the first book in the series that I read before going back and starting from the beginning with the Pinkerton Matchmaker. So it was nice to go back and see Meg's backstory, although she was spoiled and a bit annoying in this one. Luckily, I knew how things went for her later on. I also really liked how both authors for this book and the next one obviously worked together to make sure their stories matched well. It is a clean, sweet romance. The only thing I wasn't as crazy about was that the romance between Hallie and Jeff did seem to come a bit out of nowhere. They were separated a bit but yet falling for each other but yet unwilling to discuss it.... Also, at one point, Hallie is worried about Jeff's safety yet she goes to bed and sleeps..But I think that if she really was starting to fall for him she would have been too worried to just sleep and hope he comes back ok....Just my thoughts. Overall, it was a good read. But definitely read it along with Kitty (#33) and Meg (#45).
Jeffrey Moore was happy in his job with the Pinkerton agency. As of yet he has been working his cases rapid fire, back to back to avoid what many of his fellow agents have been roped into, (in his way of thinking) A female agent and a wife all wrapped up into one little package. Can he continue to avoid this match up or will his boss have his way?
Hallie Whittier has lived quite a life. Her mother was lost to her at her birth. She accompanied her father through his search for riches. She was subjected to much in the mining camps he took her to and developed the idea that there were no good men on earth.
Archie Gordon, Jeff's boss feels that with this next case Hallie and Jeff will be the perfect team. An adventure awaits them in a camp similar to the ones Hallie grew up in before her father found his fortune. She now lives on what is termed "Snob Hill". Will she be able to return to this way of life to help Jeff solve the mysteries that plague this camp while they are searching for Dinosaur Bones? Will Jeff get past her Snob Hill distinction? Dinosaur bones in 1872 Wyoming Territory? This is a good solid read. I enjoyed the personalities depicted in the characters and the plot was unique. I received an ARC of this book and am choosing to leave an honest review.
Easy five stars Not your average Pinkerton Agent adventure. Going to dig up dinosaur bones? After he was paired with “his wife” of whom he felt was foolish to have a woman agent. Time and Gods grace helped them through the times in the tent, of a Buffalo stampede of sitting by a bedside wondering if life would leave. And finding love in the end. The author tells you at the back of the book what was actually true history and what was loosely based and if course what was from her creative imagination. Another great book from this author. Part of a series but can be read as a stand alone ( of which I did) reading these stories in order help you to get to know the characters and thier past adventures as some authors include characters from other books. But you won’t be lost if you don’t read in order. And there is no sexual references or language so I can recommend this to my advanced reading preteen friends or anyone that likes clean books.
Didn’t feel the connection and the case was very dull
I didn’t really feel a connection between Jeff and Hallie. They don’t spend that much time together, both working in other locations all day and we don’t see that much conversation between them either. Yet a couple of days into their assignment they feel like they are just so connected to the other they want to stay together. Then they go months without expressing their feelings. The case they were working on was the most boring case out of all the other Pinkerton brides books I’ve read as well. I think the archaeology theme is interesting but the reason they were there was just to babysit a daughter basically, with lots of family drama thrown in.
Hallie just want to be a normal woman living in a normal house after living a far from normal life so far. But now she’s asked to become a Pinkerton Agent and get married to Jeff. Jeff doesn’t want to get married but now he can’t avoid it any longer. Can they work together for a short time to protect a young woman living in a camp with just men? And what will happen after that? I really enjoyed this book that brought the main characters to a place where they are digging for dinosaurs bones. This story has also some interesting twists. I loved all the stories in this Pinkerton series that I’ve read so far, can’t wait for more.
This is now one of my favorite Pinkerton agent stories. I loved the premise, and Jeff & Hallie as individual characters, in addition to as a couple.
The only thing that I wish was different was that the story had been fuller in fleshing out the plot & the relationships. It reads like a short story, but was worthy of a novel 🤩
Clean romance level: sweet kisses Religion: explicitly Christian, but low key & not preachy
I really enjoyed this book! I loved the characters especially Jeff. He made me laugh when he met Hallie. I enjoyed that the Pinkerton went on a dig and spoke on the places they found fossils. The romance was sweet and tender I enjoyed how it came about slowly. I love books by Julia Ridgmont! Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
I've read a few in this series of interconnected stories by a group of writers and have always enjoyed them and this is a worthy addition. This time it is Hallie and Archie's story involving searching for dinosaur fossils whilst protecting the expedition leader's daughter from the attention of the diggers. Short but sweet and I will continue to read others in this series.
I really enjoyed reading this book and watching the characters unfold. This was such a beautiful love story and it kept me on my toes throughout the entire book. I would definitely encourage friends and family to read this wonderful book and I would actually read it again myself!
I liked romance and mystery. This book has both. The mystery is a simple one but still adds to the appeal of the book. I like Hallie. She is strong but also vulnerable. Jeffrey is hard working and bent on staying single until he meets Hallie. This is a sweet clean romance with a touch of intrigue.
It was an unusual plot and to picture the dedication and excitement of the original dinosaur bone hunters was fascinating to me but even if it doesn’t fascinate you it’s a good story. Enjoy 👍💜
Thank you. Julia Ridgmont. Jeff and Hallie had their hands full with Meg and her father, they were so ready to Get to the bottom of their problems, when their was a buffalo stampede, that made it more challenging it it worked out good in the end.
Agents have to go to a dinosaur dig on t Wyoming Utah border to help a father protect his daughter. Jeff and Hallie are attracted to each other will they make their marriage real? - Babs
I truly appreciate all the research you put into your story. Going to the extra effort makes for a much better and truly richer and pleasurable read. ☺
An Agent for Hallie by Julia Ridgmont is book 32 of the series. I liked the characters and the storyline of this book. There's drama as well as a sweet romance.
