Veronica has lived the last 5 years in a haze partying and drinking, hooking up with random men. She never recovered from losing her true love. Her home is life is a miserable cage, where she puts up with a lot of different abuse.
Things change when Veronica goes to a party at her friends house, meets a darky, sexy stranger. They hit right off, leave the party. She spends the night with him. He seems so familiar to her at times, that it brings back memories even more.
Her father decides to manhandle her about the party, she thinks he has no way out.
Her brother Jay is able to bring her to another party, her mysterious stranger is there as well. They leave again. This time, someone catches them and her father is furious.
Things get very dangerous for Veronica, she feels like there is no escape. She will not run for fear of her father hurting her brother.
Secrets are exposed and both Veronica and her mysterious lovers life are in danger and his true nature will be exposed to her.
This is a really nice introduction to the series, there are very steamy scenes in this book. If you do not like those types of scenes, this book is not for you. The scenes add to what the characters are feeling.

Our heroine is not happy under her father's thumb knowing she is being used to hurt others. When she seeks temporary escape at a masquerade, is there a change it could be the start of something more?
This is a short paranormal romance story. The story is really well written and easy to read with two well crafted characters that bring the story to life. You can feel their pain and their instant attraction and it keeps you rooted to the page to see where things are going. A wonderful story with mystery, intrigue and steam, this makes for an excellent evening read.

Intense Sexy Hot Read!
OMG WOW! This story was an incredibly hot and sexy short story. It was packed full of intense action and suspense, with a ton of amazing panty melting moments throughout! I absolutely loved this story. It gripped me right from the beginning straight to the end. All of the twists and turns were so well done, I had no clue what was going to happen next. And the twist towards the end - Amazing!
I want more of this story and the main characters. It was so good.

Nikki Landis’ UnMasked has all her trademarked heat, and all her surprises. Veronica and Geron are so hot, the pages may spontaneously combust if you read this as a paperback. And Geron proves to be more than just a masquerade hero for Veronica.

Nikki Landis is a bona fide storyteller; once I picked up this book, I kept reading. The scenes are fast-paced, the world-building is just enough to keep the story rolling forward. The dialogue and characters are pretty predictable, but most of the plot twists aren't. I did feel some things were glossed over or undeveloped, though, especially from V's POV. For example:
It would bother me more in any other story; in a genre like this, where the target audience is likely clamoring for more steamy scenes, well-rounded characters and interesting backstories are perhaps a pleasing bonus, if not on the back-burner entirely. I think this is a genre where you're supposed to suspend your disbelief and not mind the gaps as much; it's a lusty love story, albeit with drug lords and supernatural powers, where character chemistry trumps all else. If you want "all else," go curl up with Charlotte Bronte or Laini Taylor. If you want chemistry, here there be chemistry.
The language has its highs and lows, but overall feels effortless and enjoyable, and especially in less steamy scenes some characterizations and descriptions feel completely spot-on. "They both possessed the uncanny ability to control a room when they entered it ... My brother didn't take advantage of that trait. My father excelled at its overuse."
V makes for a likeable heroine. She's a lovely yet trapped young woman hungry for anonymity, for pleasure, for escape, for some breathing room out from under her father's sadistic thumb. She's vulnerable and a vixen all at once. I enjoyed discovering the protagonists' backstory with each chapter.

Didint see that coming!!
Veronica Valente, the daughter of the famous crime lord Arturo Valente hates her life. She has never left love from him any chance he gets to hurt her he takes. Halloween holds a special day in her life because she can pretend to be anyone she decides to dress up as. She can forget about evil father just for a night. But she is also trying to forget about David the love of her life who died years ago and still cant get over. She finally ditches her security team and gets to her friends Halloween party. She isn't there long before a masked man makes himself known and sweeps her off her feet for a night of passion.
Geron cant take his eyes off of Veronica "V" and he makes sure she has a night she wont forget. But is there something that Geron is hiding from her????
I really enjoyed this book. I would love see, Arturo face his worse enemy and slowly rip him apart!!!! Vile man!!!! He uses V as a pawn to get higher in the criminal world.
This is a great little read and I didnt see the ending coming. but I did let out a little scream of happiness. You go girl!!!!!
Veronica comes alive when she is with Geron and I just want her to be happy but her vile father has other plans.

UnMasked: Rise of the Phoenix Book #1 is an entertaining, steamy, thrill-ride of a story to read. The steam starts from almost page one when Veronica meets Geron. Her life is complicated and not a happy one by any means. Geron is all mystery man and intensely hot and sexy. He pushes all her right buttons in the right way. Veronica's brother Jay and her best friend Jen have a thing for one another that will hopefully develop into something in future books in this series.
Unmasked is also a superhero type of story. Without revealing too much, one of the characters is not whom they seem. Dramatically, they right a wrong done to their family as well as a couple of the other characters. They do so making the ultimate sacrifice, or so it seems. The superhero vibe is a bit of a change from other stories Nikki Landis has written, and it is entertaining, suspenseful, steamy hot, and overall, a great story. It reads a bit like a made for television type of story. I want to see more from this new superhero and how they will battle the evildoers while keeping all that steam going between them and the love of their life. Book two should be a lot of fun!

However, she meets a masked man who has managed to work his way into her life. He is not wanting to cause her trouble with her family but somehow.... Yeah you can probably guess what could possibly happen. Unfortunately, there is something else at play and it gets dangerous. What will happen? Will the mask man be her savior? It's a really well written and well organized short story. It gets it the point and allows the maximum development of the characters for in short amount of time there is in the book. The author does an amazing job of keeping it hot will keeping the mystery and intrigue on point with a twist ending. I was excited to see that there would of these two characters in the future as this little teaser had me wanting more.

The author has, again, given us characters we can care about. This story has everything: action, intrigue, sex, love and the criminal underground. Unmasked is an excellent story about two people who meet at a Halloween party and is the first book in the "Rise of the Phoenix" series. In typical Nikki Landis fashion, we have a great story in our hands with this book. Very fast paced and pointed, Unmasked is a great set up for the series. A warning, this may not be a book for the feint of heart as some of the subject matter could possibly offend those not used to these types of books. But if you give the story a try, I believe you will be caught up in it. Definitely recommended.

I usually do not read paranormal romance other than a few vampire reads. The rise of the Phoenix was a new one for me. I can honestly say that I was taken by surprised with how much I enjoyed Geron and Victoria's story. The story was well written and I enjoyed it very much. Cannot wait to see what's to come from the rest of the series.

This was a quick read, but an exciting, scorching one. Veronica, or V is going to a masked party to escape her overbearing father. She meets another person in a mask, a man she is drawn to. Her father finds out and doesn't react well. They keep up their relationship in masks, but Geron is keeping a big secret from V. Well, several actually.
At first, this reads like a mafia romance, then veers towards the paranormal genre. Overall, a great read.

This hot and steamy Romans was a page turner that I couldn't put down. The characters and pacing of this story were great! Kept me on the edge of my seat. When Veronica and Geron meet another, they have their secrets, but they now, that they meant to be together. Read the book and you will now why, see how it's ends. It's an end your never aspect. Awesome.

Nikki did a wonderful job with this book. Geron and Veronica's chemistry was blazing hot. The twists and turns in this book were great and keep me on my toes. If anyone is looking for a short, PNR with mystery and some steamy experiences, I would definitely recommend this book to you!

Since Nikki Landis is one of my go-to authors and I know her work, I wanted to read and review this new book she's put out. "Unmasked" is a hard-hitting, fast-paced, erotically charged story introducing us to Veronica and Geron who came in contact with each other at a Halloween Party. After you read this, I'm sure you'll feel the same way I do and want to read more of this couple.

Unmasked by Nikki Landis was a fast paced, intense, steamy read. Veronica and Geron meet at a masked Halloween party and the sparks fly between them immediately. This story has interesting twists, intrigue, intense action, and sizzling chemistry, that kept me fascinated throughout and turning the pages. Amazing read and I definitely recommend it!

Veronica is living life the only way she can to survive. She lost the love of her life and her father is cruel so she sneaks away when she can. She meets Geron who is familiar to her and theh hook up and the her father punishes her. Geron must save her and reveal who he really is. This book is hot and quick and full of drama.

UnMasked: Dark Erotic PNR by Nikki Landis is a wonderful story that I have read. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series that I have loved reading and can not wait to read the next story in this series. This story was fast paced, steamy and mysterious. Veronica and Geron's love story was enchanting and addictive and left you wanting more. I thoroughly enjoyed this unpredictable quick read and I hope this isn't the last we see of Veronica and Geron.

I enjoyed this first story in the "Rise Of The Phoenix" series. It's a fairly quick read that is a touch dark and passionate. The plot is interesting and suspenseful with action and intrigue. Great twists and turns as well. I really like the characters! Instant and combustible chemistry leads to one very passionate night.

It is a great introduction to the series.

For five years, Veronica has been living a half life since the death of her husband. When an intriguing gentleman comes into her life, nothing is as it seems anymore. This book was very interesting and wasn't expecting what happened to happen. I'm excited to read more from this author.
