Annie Kate Hinkley has always dreamed of being a Pinkerton Agent. Only problem is, growing up with her grandma, she never learned to shoot, ride a horse, or fight. But she did learn to read. And she read everything she could get her hands on about Kate Warne, the first female Pinkerton Agent. Bruno Thomas has been a Pinkerton Agent for over a year. He’s the youngest detective in the company, but the biggest, strongest man in the state of Colorado. Built like a solid brick house, he left a life of bare-fisted boxing to join Archie Gordon’s extension office in Denver, Colorado, and doesn’t ever want to go back. In order to solve a murder, he must accept an undercover assignment that puts him back in the boxing ring. He’s also required to marry a spitfire, overzealous recruit who idolizes Kate Warne. Can these two find a common ground in their differences in order to discover true love? Or will Annie Kate and Bruno run headlong to the judge for an annulment as soon as they solve this murder mystery?

Annie Kate was turning eighteen and now she was officially a "spinster". "She knew her Grandma would want her to marry, but she had not intention of doing that. Being a Pinkerton Agent was not the sort os thing a married woman could do." That was her dream and when she saw the ad in the paper they were hiring women, she couldn't contain her excitement!! Now just to get there on the train.
Bruno Thomas had made just arrived back in Denver after a successful mission as a Pinkerton. He was thankful to be coming home. Having been a bare nuckle boxer to survive, he was terribly beat up and he knew not much to look at but that helped him be a good detective. Mr Archie Gordon had given him that chance and he'd be forever thankful.
But who would he bump into at the train station trying to get a cab to the Pinkerton office but Annie Kate! Wow what a great first meeting and then to find out she had to marry him to work on her first case!
Another wonderful adventure in this delightful Pinkerton Matchmaker Series. I have enjoy every story I have read and of course with Lynn Donovan at the helm I knew this one would be fun and hearwarming! She never fails to make me smile!

Annie Kate has read as many dime novels about Kate Warne as she possibly could. Now she's finally fulfilling her dream to become a Pinkerton agent herself, at 18 (apparently that's the age one becomes a spinster.) Bruno's body bears the scars from his growing up in the boxing ring. He feels like no woman should have to be married to him. But he's willing to marry Annie in order to train her as a new agent.
They've been hired by a retired sea captain to find his sister who attempted to poison him and then ran off on her husband. They are hoping to find her in Las Vegas and get her to confess and return home. Bronco (Bronson) from #4 is also helping out.
The story was ok, but there wasn't really much mystery to it. Bruno lets inexperienced Annie decide their entire plan. I'm pretty sure all the supplies purchased for the elaborate set up (including a circus tent, furnishings, costumes and a train ticket for an extra person to help them) would have broken their expense account. I just couldn't see the Pinkerton office allowing such output to get 1 woman to confess to attempted poison....And then Bruno's job at the circus didn't really accomplish anything besides being nearby to the fortune telling tent. But he could have done that as her assistant instead of going back into boxing that he swore he wouldn't do again. I also found that the plan was rehashed so much that I got bored and the romance seemed rushed. It was a decent, clean read but there are lots of better ones in this series.

Ms. Donovan did it again. This is a fantastic story.

I really loved this story and adored the heroine. She sure wanted to be like the first woman Pinkerton, and well, I think she is on her way. I also loved the hero, the big lug never thought anyone could love a big hunk of a guy who had scars and injuries from boxing, but his Pinkerton partner fell in love with this kind hearted man. They fell into the swing of being partners easily and figured out a really good way to get their assignment confessing and so much more.
I highly recommend this story and all the Pinkerton stories in this fabulous series. You don't want to miss a one.

There’s just one thing that Annie wants, to be a Pinkerton Agent. Now she gets the chance. Bruno’s life changed a year ago, he could leave his past of being a fighter behind when he became a Pinkerton Agent. Now they are paired and married to solve a case. When his attraction and admiration for Annie grows he knows he doesn’t want their marriage annulled after the case, but who would want to stay with such a disfigured man?
Such an entertaining story, the act they have to pull up is great.

I loved this story. Not only do we get Bruno and Annie, but also Grandma Hinkley and Raymond plus a return of Bronco. I was thoroughly entertained. A good addition to the Pinkerton Matchmaker family.

The Amazing Unbeatable Man

Annie was determined to become a Pinkerton agent.
Bruno never thought anyone would love him because of his battered face.
Excellent storyline and characters.

Sweet Historical Romance

I didn't care for the use of a fortune teller in their ruse, but it got the necessary job done. Annie's secret informant was brilliant, but, having a couple characters with similar names was at times confusing.
