A Love Song for the Duke

Rate this book

Sophia Cluett’s great passion for music adds a bit of light to growing up without a mother, the sickness that plagues her younger sister and her father’s poorly performing business. Her talent and great prospect of becoming a successful musician are about to go to waste though when her father decides to marry her off to someone she despises to financially secure the family. Sophia feels trapped in an undesirable future, until she meets the handsome Duke of Berkshire by chance and under the false identity of a high society member. Apart from making her heart flutter, could he also be the solution to all her problems?

Guy Bastable, the Duke of Berkshire, has mourned for a long time. Nothing can soothe his passion for revenge on the man who left his sister to die. At least that’s the case until he saves a young woman from a collision and realizes that there’s something more to live for; an extraordinary lady that is nothing like any other woman he’s met before. The more time he spends with the charming Sophia, the more his vengeance and pain give place to other, deeper feelings. Could she be the salvation he has been looking for?

Sophia’s and Guy’s growing love might be undeniable, but it’s also based on a tale of lies that Sophia will struggle to free herself from. Through their connection, Sophia will discover the greatest truth of all in the midst of her lies, but nothing guarantees that her feelings will be believed. This time it’s not her future or financial security she is worried about losing, but something much more important. Will love manage to overcome the reckless lies and the class barriers or is this romance doomed right from its dishonest start?

"A Love Song for the Duke" is a historical romance novel of approximately 80,000 words. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after.

The most annoying regency romance I’ve ever read.

Two people spend months (and 300+ pages) lying and avoiding each other, until they finally tell each other the truth, which wouldn’t have made a difference, if they had told it months earlier. After repeatedly agonizing over their internal dialogue of self-loathing and personal cowardice, they finally admit their feeling on the very. last. page.

No denouement. The end. Gah !!!

Lie💔 To Him

Regency Romance💕 with Crime Elements.
Guy, Duke of Berkshire🐺, is just out of mourning for his sister, Harriet, who died💀 of pneumonia, after being kept out in the rain for hours by her con man suitor, Duncan Starn👺. Guy has been tracking Starn👺 all over London, but the man is slippery as an eel.

Sophie💃💋🎹 is the daughter of a once talented musician who can no longer play due to arthritis in his hands. Sophie💃💋🎹 is even more talented and can play from ear any song she hears. She can play almost any instrument! She also is a talented song writer and singer. Being a woman, though, she cannot make money at it.

Her father's music store where she works, is failing, and he betrothes her to a wealthy young man she detests because his money will save them.

Sophie plans to run away....until she accidentally meets Guy, when he saves her from being hit by a carriage.

Sophie is so enthralled by Guy, that she makes up a story about being a noble woman just returned from Jamaica. She seems to have a B.S. answer for everything.
Her lies to Guy🐺 have lies of their own! When will it all catch up to her?

Opinions Expressed here are entirely my own.

I had a really hard time keeping interested in this book. Sophie's continued deceptions got really old and I didn't like her continued dishonesty towards Guy and her father. The fact that she made her Aunt and her Butler cover for her also was particularly disgusting. It seemed to go on and on far too long. I would have liked the book to have much more about Guy's attempts to catch his sister's killer, a con man.

I loved the main male and female characters as well as the secondary ones. They were full of life, down-to-earth, well-meaning, put family first and were honorable. There are a few inspirational moments in this story that really grabbed my attention. The H and h's relationship were complicated to say the least. With the h's father's music store financially in jeopardy, he agrees to betroth the h to a man she despises. The h is a talented musician in her own right. She is gifted and plays multiple instruments and composes her own music. All she wants is a career of her own and to go to a prestigious music school for women. For over a year the H still mourns the loss of his younger sister. With revenge on his mind he hunts London for the man his sister loved and it looked like he abandoned her when she needed him the most. The H swore he would make the man pay. But when he caught up to him, he found out things that touched his soul and he knew he had the wrong impression of the man. This gave him food for thought how he rejected the h for what he perceived was a deception. But now he knew there was possible more to the story than he realized. An engaging romance. It was lovely to read. So full of realistic emotions and feelings. It was so easy to identify with the characters. I loved how the author tied music to relate unspoken feelings and thoughts. Kudos to Aria Norton for writing a loving story.

ONE ENTERPRISING JOURNEY!!!
Splendid! Aria powers every swirling emotion with finesse, passion, ambition and devotion, lighting up the nights and thrusting this little gem into a tizzy with a mind-blowing culmination. A raging vortex of inexplicable events and baffling circumstances, spins this baby into a churning tempest, testing our characters in ways they could have never imagined. The characters and their on point personalities are authentic and realistic with depth and qualities that blend and flow. Unveiling a foray of drama, secrets, misgivings, shenanigans, turmoil and mounting suspense along with intense situations and a double dose of havoc and escapades running amuck, blasting this little fella together seamlessly. Producing incredible, well rounded scenario's that punch dead center ramping up the exuberance and intensity, blasting this baby to life brilliantly. The scenes are so vividly detailed it gives the illusion you were right there with them instead of on the sidelines. Remarkable job Aria, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.

Is one little lie really that bad? For music enthusiast, Sophia, it is the beginning of a tangled web of lies...it just gets worse and bring on nerves and stress. All Sophia wanted was to appear affluent to a Duke, save her family from financial ruin, persue a music career, and not marry Matthew! What a tangled life we lead when we first practice to deceive! Will Sophia be able to accomplish this? Guess you'd better read to find out!

Sweet romamtic story

Love this author's writing! Her heroine indulged in a little bit of fantasy after the duke saved her from being hit by a carriage, or at least the horse droppings, but his mistaking her for a lady turned her head. In her new dress, she did feel like more than a musician's daughter, but when he asked to call on her, the fantasy should have ended. Instead, it pulled her deeper ad deeper into a web of deception that she just might be swallowed into. Oh, if only she had not fallen in love with her rescuer! This illusion became harder and harder to maintain...it could not possibly end well.....or could it?
Ms Norton has done a good job in creating this book. She carries characters from an earlier writing into this narrative seamlessly, and fits a sweet romance around them to make a goodread. I got this book on Amazon kindle unlimited. Glad I did!

Lies and revenge are never good.
Sophia's life is not easy with her great passion music she has hopes yet these will be crushed by her father who wishes to marry her off for financial gain. When Sophia meets Guy it is at a time of danger. These two grow into a relationship yet the secrets and lies may pull them apart. This romantic drama is rather complex with Guy need to find the man he believes causes his sister’s death and lies that Sophia has told. Guy will do something later in the book that he will regret but what he does later may bring some e closure for the characters. The author did a good job of giving the characters realistic feeling emotions. The story for me was enjoyable and engaging.

Lies, music and love

The love for music define the heroine. She didnt like lying but she didnt correct an initial misunderstanding and pretty soon she couldnt stop lying to cover up her social status and maintain the friendship of a duke. Music helped her relax and music became her means to exoress her love for the duke and asked his forgiveness. I found the story a little unusual and was quite happy with the entanglements and the way the characters develop and growth into a more mature and understanding attitude toward society demands and the desires of the heart. Thanks.

This is one of the books included in "Daring Ladies Fighting for Love: A Historical Regency Romance Collection" that I read.
A Story of love based on social differences (powerful titled men, strong but poor women from lower social class - commoner) are always a good start to disaster if not backup with real true love and strong will to achieve a greater goal... a forever ever happy life.
The obstacles to achieve love are numerous and great but our heroes are really strong willed and don't give up until they marry the love of their life...

A Love Song for the Duke is a wonderful Regency romance.

I found this story to be heartwarming but emotional. The characters are charming and well developed. The storyline is well written and expresses Sophia's emotions perfectly through her music. Guy finds himself drawn to Sophia but still needs revenge for his sister's death. Can these two people have a life together or will secrets and societal differences tear them apart?

I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.

A destitute family and a Duke out for revenge make for an interesting plot. However, I found the story difficult to relate to as Sophia's deception undermined her character. Guy was filled with anger at the death of his sister and someone had to pay, but as a hero he is disappointing. I also found the story very long-winded with a lot of unnecessary padding. Altogether a disappointment.

Sorry, not for me. I didn't like the extra simple writing style at all and there was wide spacing between single sentences and sections of dialogue, which meant it was a pain to keep turning pages. Excellent, I imagine, for earning maximum $$ via KU. (541 pages in total plus it finishes way before the end, with other stuff after) DNF.

Music

Desperation can push a lot of people into doing things they would probably regret their entire lives. Sometimes though, the same circumstances pave a way to a better life. It was such a touching story and I couldn’t help but love all the characters. Their struggles are something that I think a lot of people could relate to.

Chasing her dream

Great story wonderful story line, Sofia loved music, The Duke was out for revenge for his sister. He saves Sofia from being run over. When she realizes he's a Duke, she knows she can't tell him she's from the lower class.
So she spins him a tail. And this is where their story begins.
Thank you ❤️

Overall ok read

This was a nice clean romance and it ends happy ever after. I thought the extended epilogue was cute the way it hints at Guy’s matchmaking. I was not necessarily a fan of Sophia at times as I felt her thinking was not right. But overall nice read
