No one knows for sure who Richard Yokely worked for in the past - the Army, the CIA, DEA, NSA – he has carried out missions for them all.
But now he works for Grey Fox, the super secret agency that takes care of business that the White House would prefer to keep under wraps.
A vicious killer has been attacking schools in America, killing without mercy. And when it looks like the killer might be a former special forces soldier who has gone rogue, Yokely could be the only man who can stop him.
Stephen Leather was a journalist for more than ten years on newspapers such as The Times, the Daily Mail and the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong. His bestsellers have been translated into more than ten languages. He has also written for television shows such as London's Burning, The Knock and the BBC's Murder in Mind series. For much of 2011 his self-published eBooks - including The Bestseller, The Basement, Once Bitten and Dreamer's Cat - dominated the UK eBook bestseller lists and sold more than half a million copies. The Basement topped the Kindle charts in the UK and the US, and in total he has sold more than two million eBooks. His bestselling book The Chinaman was filmed as The Foreigner, starring Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan and grossing more than $100 million.
This is a novella by Stephen Leather featuring one of his previous characters Richard Yokely. Richard Yokely is an hired killer and is a prime candidate when looking to hire someone to hunt down a mass killer who appears to be special forces trained. The killer has been attacking schools in America, appearing to kill indiscriminately showing no mercy. Can Richard Yokely stop him. This is a decent short read but I didn't feel it came up to the high standard of the Spider Sheppard series.
Somewhat over the top with violence, but otherwise, it is a good read about a member of a shadow organization tracking down a rouge special forces vet who, suffering from acute PTSD, is seeking vengeance for the death of his daughter. It is a short read and will keep your interest throughout the manhunt.
Overall, rather kind of dull story. Most of it was spent on the Rogue Warrior killing people. The chase was rather boring and it never caught my interest. I am a Stephen Leather fan, but this one is not for me. I am going to get soon.
Yokely is one of Stephen Leather’s excellent range of characters. Unlike most most of those characters, Yokely is a clinical killer, one “sort of” employed by the US Government for the dirtiest of jobs. When a mass killer looks to be not only deadly but special forces trained, sometimes you need a deadly man to catch a deadly man. With vague but powerful credentials Yokely teams up with an FBI agent (nice nod to author Neal Lancaster) to try and track down this “rogue warrior” before more lives are lost. The action here is mostly delivered by the bad guy, just keeping ahead of the investigation but there are many th8 gs to enjoy here. It is a timely novel that cuts to the gun situation in the US, the potential consequences and attitudes. A few red herrings are flung at us to distract us (my favourite was a teacher) What else would you expect? It’s a great little thriller.
I'm not a big fan of novellas and this did little to change my opinion, they all seem to finish too quickly as if the writer runs out of ideas or has deadline problems.
I quite enjoyed reading this book even though I don’t think it was one of the authors better efforts. It was well researched and well written but I still prefer his earlier novels to the Spider Shepherd and Jack Nightingale books. I suppose the more that you write the harder it is to keep coming up with new and original ideas. Still not bad.
I liked the way the story develops, and the lengths the perpetrator takes to cover there steps. Bur no matter what you do, its never perfect It also rasied up why the NRF are so powerful and what the measures they will take to protect themselves, and there supportive politicians
Wonderfull insight into the character Richard Yokel and his career as a black ops agent within the shady tiers of Presidential security system. Very good read
I always enjoy reading his books, they keep you glued for hours. They are easy to follow and are written in a way for the reader to understand the plot.
Always a gripping story from Stephen Leather. Such a good story teller. This is the first time I have read about Richard Yokely but I will be back for more.
Yokely the man the mystery, I’d love to hear about his more clandestine stuff…..the potential is endless, also some of the background of his Dan Shepherd connection!
I thought this book did not do StephenLeather any justice at all!!! It was a something and nothing book, it was a sort of story but it no real structure to it and it was very much, a hit and miss I know who it is by Richard Yokeley who normally breaks all the rules in the book when it comes to prospective threats, but this was just bland and boring in places, unless you are going to write a proper story instead of a Novella then do not bother, stick to what you do best and those are the usual books you write, they are absolutely fantastic. There is no needs to write for the sake of it, this is a disappointment and I would not recommend it to my ~Goodreads bookshelf as I do not think it does Stephen Leather justice. Boring read
I love Stephan leather, he’s the master of his craft. This is great little novella. Shootings in schools, bombs in apartment blocks, generals being shot, it’s all too much and the government needs help.it calls in Richard Yokely. He knows his trade and does his best to hunt down the kills
The books is fast paced and well written, the plot is complex and makes you want to read on ., I read it all during on plane journey .
I can’t wait to see if Mr Leather does more with the enigmatic Yokely
Yet another brilliant Stephen Leather book. So difficult to put down. Richard Yokely is called in to find out who has killed children in a massacre and an ex special forces warrior is suspected. The Vice President is the next in-line so Yokely needs to get to him first.
Another great story by a master at writing this genre. Good strong characters and a story that flowed and made great reading. Can't wait for the next w.
