When the great war between the Redwoods and the Centrals occurred three decades ago, the Talon Pack risked their lives for the side of good. After tragedy struck, Gideon Brentwood became the Alpha of the Talons. But the Pack’s stability is threatened, and he’s forced to take mate—only the one fate puts in his path is the woman he shouldn’t want.

Though the daughter of the Redwood Pack’s Beta, Brie Jamenson has known peace for most of her life. When she finds the man who could be her mate, she’s shocked to discover Gideon is the Alpha wolf of the Talon Pack. As a submissive, her strength lies in her heart, not her claws. But if her new Pack disagrees or disapproves of fate’s choice, the consequences could be fatal.

As the worlds Brie and Gideon have always known begin to shift, they must face their challenges together in order to help their Pack and seal their bond. But when the Pack is threatened from the inside, Gideon doesn’t know who he can trust and Brie’s life could be forfeit in the crossfire. It will take the strength of an Alpha and the courage of his mate to realize where true loyalties lie

Mate.
That scent, that pull on his wolf.
Mate.
Holy shit.
He’d just found his mate, and she was a fucking Redwood.
And from the way her wolf reached out to his seeking protection yet wanting to comfort as well, she was a submissive as well.
A Talon Alpha and a Redwood submissive?
Yeah, fate royally sucked.

I had to skip some parts because it got a bit long-winded & repetitive (He is dominant she is submissive...)
The storyline was easy to follow. It was a little confusing that Shannon (the elder) and other elders could be acting so disrespectful towards Gidon and order him around,(him being an alpha). I like my alpha's well to be alphas. The romance of the book is so exaggerated. I honestly didn't see any spark within their relationship which made them any different to other books I have read, except for the obvious fact that their love is great because they are soulmates...oh, wait...I may have heard of that one before...And the fact that he did not want her at first because it is dangerous, and she is weak, and pathetic, and could not possibly protect herself. This doesn't mean that I've hated this book (I quite like it), but It wasn't like I expected to be.

Have you ever read a book that shook a part of you on a very human level that you didn’t realize a book could do that to you? Well that is exactly what Tattered Loyalties did to me and for me. Without spoiling the Meta Arc of this series before a reader gets the chance to read it for themselves I am going to try to give you the best review that I can and explain why I felt a connection to this book like never before.

First I am a huge Redwood Pack Series fan and was thrilled to hear that Carrie Ann Ryan was going to allow those fans to see the future of the kids we saw born in that series and in the war throughout that series. Having said that you DO NOT need to read the Redwood Series in order to start The Talon Series, Carrie Ann Ryan does a very good job of explaining the history of the world so that readers can start with Tattered Loyalties and feel just as immersed in the world without having to read anything prior. But of course I highly recommend reading the Redwood Series just for the experience.

The Talon Pack is led by An Alpha named Gideon that came to be the alpha through nontraditional means but in doing so gave his pack the only chance of survival from itself and the evil that was living within it. Now Gideon must face his past and the future that he feels is looming over his pack, with all the plans he is putting in place to protect his pack from what could possibly be coming for them he never thought that what could be the answer to his biggest problem, himself, would be a mate. Especially a mate that he thinks could never handle the evil he feels he is surrounded by.

Brie is a Redwood; she has always known where her place has been within her pack and has always known that it was important and needed in its own way for the survival and moral of the pack. It’s not one of strength in the traditional manner but one of love and softness, within that love and softness comes its own strength that not all wolves appreciate or see as valuable as traditional strength. When she realizes that she is the solution to one of Gideon’s biggest problems, Brie decides she would rather sacrifice her need for “happily ever after” for duty, in the hopes that she can be exactly what the Talon Pack needs to really heal and move forward and survive whatever may be coming in the future.

Things don’t go very smooth, there are members of the Talon pack who do not think a submissive wolf can be the Alpha Female and will go to any length to make sure she will not be for long. But Brie’s strength doesn’t come from her skill in fighting it comes from her sheer will to strive in life and in whatever role the Fates believe she is fit for and she will prove to the pack that she is the Alpha Female they need and deserve.

I was very pleased that Carrie Ann gave us a few glimpses into the next couple whose story will be told next in the series, it had me intrigued and captivated and a little restless to be honest, in a good way of course for the next installment.

The only thing that I did not like about Tattered Loyalties was I felt utterly unprepared for the emotional roller coaster I was on especially in the last chapter, I felt like I was hit by a mack truck and it’s rare that Carrie Ann leaves the reader feeling that way in the end of her books. In that sense I feel that her writing has grown a bit darker and has gotten heavier and to be a long time Carrie Ann Ryan fan that shows me some growth. It scares me a little thou because I am afraid to see what the Brentwood family’s future holds.

Now on to why this book rocked me, the meta arc of this series that the Talon Pack and the Brentwood family will have to face throughout this series is something that I fear daily in my life. I am afraid to see the true nature of this evil written on the page. I think that’s says more about my humane side than it does about the books and I am curious to see how others feel about it after they read it as well. I know that IN THE END there will be a happily ever after but I can only imagine what this family and these character will have to go through to get there. In my opinion I believe that this series will be an emotional investment but one that will be well worth it.

I Give Tattered Loyalties (Book One in The Talon Pack Series) by Carrie Ann Ryan 5 out of 5, solely because of the impact it made on me and as a reader that’s what we want right? For a book to impact us and stay with us and I have a feeling this book and this series will stay with me for many many years.

3 stars... I wanted more!

I really did enjoy it. Don't let my star rating fool you, but in the end it was just an average shifter read for me. I love the concept of fated mates which is why I gravitate towards shifter reads in the paranormal genre more than vampire or demons.

For the reasons above, I kinda disliked about the first 30ish% of the book. On one hand it's nice that this book had a spin on the fated mates concept, but on the other I just wanted the H to go crazy and be happy about his fate.

I'm not sure if I'll continue with the series.. most likely will look for sales of the following books if I do!

Gideon Brentwood is the Alpha of the Talon pack. Brie is a submissive of the Redwood pack. Fate has pronounced them mates. It's up to Gideon and Brie to find out who are the traitors. Thank goodness they have the Brentwood family to help them out. Will Gideon and Brie stop the traitors before they tare apart the pack? Will Brie and Gideon's bond become more than fate?

This story is well executed and well written. There are a few grammatical and spelling errors but they do not distract from the storyline. The main characters are a strong couple completely supported by a host of secondary characters. The plot and a few subplots were not tied up because there is a cliffhanger at the end of the story. There is adult language and explicit sex in this novel.

Gideon, an alpha wolf, whose pack is in conflict, and Brie - a submissive wolf from another pack, know that despite being fated mates they can't be together, but when the elders of Gideon's pack push him into a corner he can't escape, Brie refuses to stay silent. In coming forward they can embrace the bond neither thought could be accepted, but danger is close and seeping through the pack, and could very possibly take the life of the woman who is coming to mean so much to Gideon.

Some typos but not so bad that it pushed me out of the story. I did want a little more from Gideon when it came to Brie, nevertheless overall this was a nice light read, on a night I couldn't sleep.

Gideon and Brie

This is the first time I tried to read a book w/o checking the reviews and no idea what the book is about😉

I like that Gideon was a true Alpha and while Brie is a submissive she is an Alpha in a different way. They both fought for their family and will do everything to protect them.

Overall the story was great, the characters are well-developed.. I enjoyed reading it. It has action and romance and a happy for now ending. 😊

Fave Quote:
A Talon Alpha and a Redwood submissive? Yeah, fate royally sucked. - Gideon

“I love you so fucking much, little wolf. You’re in my heart, my soul. You are my everything. If anything happened to you, I don’t know what I’d do.” He let out a shaky breath, baring his soul in a way he never thought he would. “I love you, Brie Brentwood. I love you with every ounce of my being and my wolf. Love me back and I promise you I’ll do my best to see that you’re cherished and loved until the end of my days.” - Gideon

I have enjoyed reading the Redwood Pack series from the first book I read. I am extremely happy that Carrie's imagination and creativity for Redwood story has her writing about the next generation. This is the type of series I just love to read because you get a chance to read about children of the previous storyline.

It is 15 years into the future after the Redwood pack defeated the Centrai pack in the war. I was so excited to read this book especially because the Redwood Pack series was AWESOME. I enjoyed this book from the beginning, Carrie Ann has the imagination and creativity to grab the reader from the first page until the last page. There is drama, a hot and sexy Alpha, you will want to keep reading for the exciting main and supporting characters. The amazing thing is that Carrie Ann is a author that's always on my list to buy automatically and is one of my favorite.

Brie Jamenson is a submissive wolf she the beta Jasper and Willow daughter. Brie grew up within the loving arms of family. At the age of seventeen Brie meets Gideon the Alpha of the Talon Pack and her future is change forever. So for years Brie didn't date and went through her breeding cycles alone. From that time on Brie did everything she could to avoid Gideon because he was her mate. But she feels that she can't be a mate to the Alpha of the Pack. Unfortunately the fates had other things in store for Brie.

Gideon Brentwood is the alpha of the Talon pack, became alpha after he challenges his father and won. Before Gideon took over the pack his father had almost destroyed the pack because he was mean and very cruel. But since Gideon had became alpha there have been a few lone wolves to challenge Gideon to be the Alpha of the Talon pack. Gideon feels he alone bare the burden of the pack, he had to guard the pack from all of the threat of humans finding out about werewolves.unfortunately the elders who has called a meeting is about to upset Gideon life more than he can imagine.

I am very excited about the Talon Pack series it promise to be just as compelling as the Redwood Pack series. I am intrigued and mystified about the new story line. I can't hardly wait for the next book in the Talon pack series.
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY MARVELOUS AWESOME READ!!!!

Tattered Loyalties was my first Carrie Ann Ryan's book and I must say, I quite enjoyed it. Before I say anything else, this book is free on amazon so if you like a good deal, check it out!

This series is a sequel to the Redwood Pack series which I have not read but I wasn't at all confused, you do not need to read the previous series before reading this one. Tattered Loyalties started out amazing, I loved the introduction to this world and the characters. It had everything I love in a shifter book, a powerful, stubborn alpha werewolf, a submissive but strong female lead, both from a different pack, an unexpected mating, a ton of sexy times and a little tension to make it all interesting.

I'd have given this book a solid five stars if it weren't for that ending. Like I said, I loved the first half of the story, the way the characters were introduced to each other, how the pack was depicted... Carrie's writing style is very smooth and it felt like she wrote this book specifically for me, but the ending was so tremendously underwhelming that it left me completely disappointed.

This is not a long book so I knew problems were going to be resolved quickly but it was done in a way that almost felt sloppy which wasn't like the rest of the book at all. I did, however, really enjoyed most of the story, the romance part was nicely done, a little sappy but honestly in this type of stories, it doesn't bother me as much. Both characters were very interesting in their own way and I loved the contrast between Gideon and Brie.

I like werewolves books because I love the idea of having a pack. Something stronger than family, bigger and better. I've always loved that part of the books and I think Carrie Ann Ryan did a fantastic job with that aspect of the story. She introduced a few pack members, mostly Gideon's family and I'm really excited to read each of their story.

So, while the ending wasn't what I expected and wanted, the rest of the book was and I definitely recommend Tattered Loyalties if you're a fan of this kind of story.

I quite liked this book. Even though it's a paranormal book about wolf shifters, it still had some heart and great angst. I felt so bad for Brie and the author really drew me into her story.

Some of the problems were too easily solved and the ending was a tiny bit rushed, but I liked this book and will continue the series.

Style: Paranormal Shifter Romance
Story: 3/5
Enjoyment: 4/5
Dark Level: 0/5
Sexual Level: GOOD
Triggers:
Violence: Yes
Male: Alpha & Stoic
Series: Book 1
Pages: 344
Audio: GOOD (m)
Kindle Unlimited: Yes

STORY:
What I liked:
This started out ok but I found myself enjoying the storyline and characters. Normally for my shifters, I am use to mates, specifically the men being super possessive with caveman tendencies once they find their mate. However, Gideon, was so stoic, hard to get to know because he is a bit stand off ish with Brie. He made that work for him because seeing him unraveled as he got to know his mate, Brie, is what made me really love their story. Brie is a submissive, so paring her with an Alpha was not what many wanted but they made it worked. I enjoyed watching their connection grow. I liked that both Brie and Gideon came from opposing families so this also added to the appeal.

What was so so:
As much as I liked listening to this story, I am not sure if I would have felt the same if I read the book. Of course, there is a cliffhanger, but the good news about that, it continues the storyline and changes characters.

SEXUAL CHEMISTRY
I have to say, I was surprised by the sex scenes. Their sex scenes became good as the story continues and this is what brought out the chemistry between the characters that I enjoyed. I liked their version of 21 questions.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
I enjoyed the secondary characters from both Redwood Pack, Brie’s family and the Talon Pack, Gideon’s family. So far, Brynn and Fin stood out to me as well as most of Gideon’s brothers and cousins. The secondary characters definitely brought the story to life.

OVERALL:
Was I entertained? Yes. Did I like the story? Yes. Would I read the next book in the series? Yes.

TRIGGERS: violence and a captive torture scene.

****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.

Wolfie's has been given a copy for an honest review.

Let me tell you right now hands down to Carrie Ann Ryan. I honestly could not put this wonderful book down. From start to finish I was captivated.

This book is a wonderful extension to the Redwood Pack, all of our wonderful Jameson's had had their presence known.

Brie the daughter of willow, and jasper a submissive wolf known of her mate, and a young age. Knowing that he was an alpha to another pack she wanted to keep her self hidden. She felt that she would be wrong for him, because of her submissive side. Oh was she wrong in so many ways.

Gideon the alpha of the Talon pack was always on edge always having a challenge for his spot that he has fought for over 30 years ago, yet he was missing something till that one faithful night when the Jameson's came to the talon den to discuss their concerns. Brie present at this faithful meeting has sealed her worst fears. She faced Gideon for the first time since she seen him from afar when she was just 17.

Gideon knew then she was his fated mate, how could the goddess be so cruel he thought to grant him a submissive wolf to be his fated as he was an alpha. How would she be able to protect the pack as an alpha pair? Oh she was going to show him a thing or two.

So many secrets he has held in that really tormented him from his past with the former alpha, his father. The elders all though he had some on his side there was one that would turn everything in shambles. Oh she was bitch in all purposes. I can't go more into detail because I will spoil it for you. Let's just say she will tie his hands and force a mating with another.

Brie sacrifices herself to mate Gideon to help him. Why would he need help she is a submissive. No he was so wrong on that. She surprised Gideon in so many ways she was a little dominant as well. She proves herself in so many ways not to just her alpha, but to her new pack.

The secrets are revealed, their hearts becomes one. Gideon's past comes to hunt him, and try to kill his fated. He opens his heart. He learns to love. Oh my goodness there's so much to tell, but I can't it will spoil the read.

Carrie you have captured everything you needed in this wonderful extension of the redwoods. I can't even express the full depth of what I felt while reading this wonderful book. You have truly done it again. Can't wait for the next one.

2.5 Ho-Hum Stars
I found this on a rejected mate list, but this isn’t. Brie is a submissive wolf that has known Gideon is her mate for like 15-ish years but has avoided him since she believes they won’t be compatible. Her unknowing uncle forces her to attend a pack visit and the two finally meet up. Gideon knows immediately that she’s his mate but doesn’t pursue it initially for the same reasons. (his pack won’t respect her and make her miserable) Things happen that require them to get mated and it’s mostly smooth sailing from there… so I don’t consider this a true rejected mate scenario.

The book is ok, I just found it boring… much of the time. There just isn’t much going on. We had practically zero issues with…

the couple getting together/bonding = no drama or angst

very few interactions with the disapproving pack = no drama or angst

nothing from the former fuckbuddy pack member = no drama or angst

The majority of the book is spent with introducing/hanging-out with the secondary characters and Gideon & Brie having sex. We only get a whiff of the “dark damaging” history of the pack, but this is a sort of spinoff of her Redwood Pack series… I think it’s their kids.

Bottom Line- I liked the mc’s; I just found them flat… and pretty much the plot flat. I would’ve liked more relationship/pack drama, and to have seen Brie step up and be badass despite being submissive. It picks up a smidge at the end when the baddie part finally comes to a head, but that’s handled pretty quickly. The “shifter conflict” looks like it will be ongoing throughout the series, so the couple ends happy enough, but the conflict will continue with Finn and Brynn’s book.

I'm one of those people who like to know if there's going to be a cliffhanger at the end of the book Carrie Ann you naughty girl you left us a teeny one! Not between the main characters but just that the story is going to go on in the next book. Gideon is head-honcho, the big man, the alpha and the boy lacks lady skills unless they're in the bedroom and he's dirty-talkin', "eff, I've had a hard-on for you since I first saw you, but I just don't like others knowing what I'm doing." Brie she's slowly coming out of her shell with Gideon, I mean she's always going to be a submissive in the pack but she's getting more comfortable with her man, "he leaned down and kissed her hard, "I like it when you say eff. Makes me think of effing you." Brynn her story is going to probably be emotional from what I gathered in the scenes she was in but I'm so excited to see her kick some butt!

This was good and interesting. We are seeing to packs who have been through alot trying to find a peace amongst themselves. For Gideon he is trying to find his way as Alpha; Him and his brothers are dealing with factions in the pack for there are those who want the ways fo their dad (who was a tyrant). They went through alot to get freedom and now they are fighting to prove themselves continuously. And many on the council are pushing them the wrong way and trying to dismantle the little bit of peace they have acheived.

You especially see this with Gideon. They are trying to force his hand when it comes to his mate. Only the Goddess has other things in mind. She has the quiet and yet very strong on the inside Brie in mind for him. The coming together of two packs and in a very unusual way. She has a submissive personality mating with a Alpha. It does cause some uproar but we see Brie show her strength.

Gideon is strong, sexy and kind. He is a protector. So when he is attracted to ad feels the mating desire with Brie he is a wee bit overprotective of her due to her personality. She does let him know and tells him where it is at and that is great to see. Brie is kind, gentle, caring and amazing. Her strength comes from within and we see it come out when it is needed. It is wonderful to see how se grounds Gideon and helps him keep his pack strong and together in ways that aren’t expected.

The story is sexy and entertaining. We also see th beginning of another fight for these packs-one that you aren’t really sure where it will go. We see those against the new ways see light for some and other syou wonde what trouble they will cause in the future. But the pack as a whole is happy. This is the story of the mating of Gideon and Brie and the emerging of a new enemy. The story of family helping one another and strengthening the bond amongst one another and their pack.

Tattered Loyalties by Carrie Ann Ryan

1st book in a spin off series from the Redwood Pack book. This takes place 15 years later and can be read without reading the other series.
Paranormal shifter romance troupe.

A dominant, alpha wolf with a submissive female. A war is brewing and the pack loyalty is questioned. Brie and Gideon must face the issues together or lose everything.

Lots of action and romance.
Unrest that is uncomfortable and violence to Brie that was ugly.
Overall a good read that doesn’t really conclude as much as leads to the next book.

This book had me sucked in from the the very beginning! The chemistry between Gideon and Brie was hot and I just loved how they work and fit so well together. I liked getting some background on character that there will be books about in the series. It ends on a cliffhanger so I can’t wait to see what happens now that the humans know of their existence

Fans of this author who adored the Redwood Pack series will be overjoyed to see this the first in a spin off series. Ms Ryan has cunningly moved the storyline into the future allowing readers to get a glimpse of what happens next but this time it's all about the Talon Pack. Fear not though because old friends still appear but it's all about the next generation and the aftermath of the Werewolf wars.
Gideon is Alpha of the Talon pack and has no idea that his fated mate is part of the Redwood Pack but that's all about to change! When Brie was seventeen years old she caught a glimpse of the man that made her Wolf howl but has always avoided him as she realised he wouldn't exactly be overjoyed to find out his Mate is part of a different Pack and a naturally submissive Wolf to boot. As an Alpha Gideon would never choose a submissive Wolf as his Mate but fate has a funny way of turning the tables on the unwary. When Gideon is pressured to take a Mate Brie steps forward to take up the challenge but convincing Gideon that's she's exactly what he needs is no mean task. If Brie can't convince Gideon how will she ever gain the trust and support of the Talon Pack? Things quickly go from bad to worse though as Gideons worse fears are about to be realised!
I really enjoyed this book but didn't love it as much as others I've read by the author, Why? I think although there is action here it got a little overshadowed by all the hot loving the couple share and I really wanted to experience more of the Pack dynamics . That being said it does have a solid plot that really opens things up for the author to explore in subsequent books. The main characters do get their happy ending but there's a cliffhanger of sorts that really needs to be addressed and even a glimpse of just who the next couple might be but boy is that a messed up relationship!
This was well written and a joy to read, hurray for great editing. I really enjoyed getting to know these characters and can't wait to read more.

Gideon has struggled with pack loyalties ever since killing his father and getting rid of his uncles.
Brie has know since seeing Gideon many years ago that he is her mate but because she's a submissive she felt she wasn't good enough to help rule the Talon pack.
Between the both of the they struggle to cope with being newly mated in a pack that doesn't like of trust Gideon rule or having a submissive as a dominant alpha female.
Really like how even though Brie isn't dominate she strong and powerful in her own way. I liked that Gideon admitted he struggles with his new feeling but expresses it in his own way.
Loved this new series. Was worried it would fall flat but I'm very happy to be wrong. Looking forward to how Brynn and Finn story plays out.

Not one of the really bad, rant-worthy book, but it's not good enough for the 2 star "it's ok" rating for me. I read it and that's all. Plus, this is the third book of hers I read and none has been more than forgettable. I don't really feel generous enough to up the rating. Sorry.

I have loved Carrie Ann Ryan's Montgomery Ink series and decided to try her paranormal series.

This book is set about 15 years after the Redwood Pack defeated the Central Pack. Gideon is now the Alpha of the Talon Pack and in order to keep his place in the pack he must take a mate. Fate has interesting plans when it send him his mate Brie, who is a member of the Redwood Pack. Brie has known Gideon was her possible mate since she was 17, after waiting so many years for him to acknowledge her can they both end up with who they deserve.

I loved this first book of the series. It was incredibly imaginative and just grabs your attention! Each book is a standalone which I love. I truly enjoyed this story, especially the romance/mating side. Bris may be a submissive in her pack but she is very strong as well. I'm excited to read more about the other members of Gideon's family we were introduced to.

This is a great introduction to the series. Gideon is an alpha male with a huge chip on his shoulder. He has trouble letting anyone help him and doesn't know what to do when fate mates him with a submissive. Brie has know that Gideon is her mate for 15 years but when they come face to face she is not prepared for his lack of reaction. When they are forced to accept their mating neither of them think they are suited. However looks can be deceiving and they both discover that their is more to their partner than they realise. Change is coming and together they will face the future. I look forward to finding out what happens to all the Talon on Redwood packs.

Action-packed storyline & unforgettable characters who drag you into their tale of fated mates. Each book in this awesome series is linked by an overall background storyline which flows through each one with the finale being revealed in the last book. These stories should be read in order so that the reader can gain the best knowledge of the Talon pack history. I was impressed with Gideon and Brie’s strengths when they were forced into acknowledging the mating bond. Brie is such a great character but she goes through such a lot before the pack finally accepts her. I love this series.

I wasn't sure about this.

It was slightly missing the mark on this for me during the first part but it slowly got better.

I would be curious to read the next book.
