For Megan McDonald, being able to speak up for herself wasn't always easy. She grew up as the youngest of five sisters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her father, an ironworker, was known to his coworkers as "Little Johnny the Storyteller." Every evening at dinner the McDonalds would gather to talk and tell stories, but Megan McDonald was barely able to get a word in edgewise. "I'm told I began to stutter," she says, leading her mother to give her a notebook so she could start "writing things down."
Critically acclaimed, the Judy Moody books have won numerous awards, ranging from a PUBLISHERS WEEKLY Best Book of the Year to an International Reading Association Children's Choice. "Judy has taken on a life of her own," the author notes, with nearly 3 million Judy Moody books in print. Interestingly, the feisty third-grader is highly popular with boys and girls, making for a strong base of fans who are among Megan McDonald's strongest incentives to keep writing, along with "too many ideas and a little chocolate." And now -- by popular demand -- Judy Moody's little brother, Stink, gets his chance to star in his own adventures! Beginning with STINK: THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING KID, three more stories, and his own encyclopedia, STINK-O-PEDIA, Stink's special style comes through loud and strong -- enhanced by a series of comic strips, drawn by Stink himself, which are sprinkled throughout the first book. About the need for a book all about Stink, Megan McDonald says, "Once, while I was visiting a class full of Judy Moody readers, the kids, many with spiked hair à la Judy's little brother, chanted, 'Stink! Stink! Stink! Stink! Stink!' as I entered the room. In that moment, I knew that Stink had to have a book all his own."
More recently, Megan McDonald has recalled some of her own childhood with the warmth, humor -- and squabbles -- of three spunky sisters in THE SISTERS CLUB.
Megan McDonald and her husband live in Sebastopol, California, with two dogs, two adopted horses, and fifteen wild turkeys that like to hang out on their back porch.

Thank you NetGalley and Candlewick Press for this free ARC in return for my honest review.
I absolutely hated this book. Judy Moody comes across as a brat whose idea of a good time is to pull stupid pranks on her younger. Her brother, Stink (what a stupid name), is trying to work on a project for the Science Fair and all Judy Moody can do is try and think of ways to prank her brother. Listen there are good pranks and then there are stupid ones, and this one takes the stupidity cake.
Good illustrations, but pranks that are stupid, played by an evil brat sister on a kid brother who is trying to prove something for his science project. Don't waste your time on this book.

Judy and Stink have a loving and unique sibling relationship. They have a lifelong prank battle going on, always trying to one up the other. When Judy finds Stink working on a Science Fair Project, she comes up with what she thinks if the best prank ever. She wants the title of “Prankenstein”. I love that even when Stink is pranked, he knows it is all in good fun and there are no hard feelings. The book has some cute, colourful illustrations to add to the story. There are some cute play on words and of course, boys will love some of the stinky, smelly parts. This was a fun and easy to read chapter book about Judy Moody and her brother Stink that I would recommend to families, and primary classrooms. It is a fun early chapter book for beginning readers. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

In this particular story, Judy Moody decides to trick her brother into thinking his garden is growing when in reality, it is not. Judy is clever, humorous and full of pranks. The relationship she has with her brother is realistic and wholesome. A must read series!

My son and I really enjoyed the Stink and Judy Moody books when he was young. We eagerly awaited every new release. I loved how the author, Megan McDonald, always played with language. Her books were full of plays on words, similes, metaphors and idioms.. The books were just plain fun and silly and the story lines were kind of wacky in the best way. Her creativity is off the charts.
Judy and Stink have a loving and unique family and an eccentric sibling relationship. Even though Judy and Stink like to tease each other and play pranks, it is always in good fun. In this story, Judy is determined to prank her brother and be the best ever “Prankenstein”.
I have read some of the newer Judy Moody and Friends books Ms. McDonald has written and I am not quite as enthusiastic about them. She is still playing with the language, but the stories lines are bit less interesting. Lots of zombies, mummies and other strange things for shock factor or something. I also miss the detailed illustrations that were found in the first series of books.
I would still recommend this series of books for younger elementary students because kids do find them fun to read. They are especially appealing for boys because there is no shortage of discussion of stinky and gross things. I, myself, will continue to read Ms. McDonald’s books as well because she is one of my favorite writers for kids, even though my son is now grown. I’m always on the lookout to buy good books for nieces and nephews and I have gifted Ms. McDonald’s books before.
If you are new to the series, you will find much to enjoy!

My kids have been enjoying the Stink: The Incredible Shrinking Kid series on audio, and we discovered this series of early chapter books on the new books shelf at our library. It's a three chapter, heavily illustrated book focusing on Judy and Stink, while the rest of the series focuses on different characters in the Judy Moody/Stink world. My kids enjoyed this when I read it aloud and it appears to be a series that my 2nd grader could read independently.

This was a fun and easy to read chapter book about Judy Moody and her brother Stink. Judy and Stink have a lifelong prank battle going, and Judy thinks up the best prank ever when she finds Stink working on a new experiment for the Science Fair! Full of bright illustrations and light hearted pranks, Judy Moody and Stink make a great team!

I think this was my least favorite. Judy prank on Stink was on something academic. The joke of the prank fell flat. And considering that pranks were already covered in the April Fool's book it felt repetitive.

This one was okay. Judy Moody is in a mood, and she wants to prank her brother Stink. Stink is trying a science experiment where he puts peppermint on his tomato plants so another plant doesn't come and choke the life out of them.

A good book for young elementary school readers. It would be a good read-aloud for first graders.
Illustrations have great detail and will draw the littlest reader's attention.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, Candlewick Press, through Netgalley. Any and all opinions expressed in the above review are entirely my own.
