For five long years the Adversary and his infernal allies have ruled the earth, herding mankind into demon-controlled enclaves and hunting those that remain near to extinction.
The Templars, a mere shadow of their once-powerful organization have continued to fight against overwhelming odds, but for many hope and a belief in a human victory are things of the past.
Then, from the depths of the Beyond, a pair of legends emerge.
The return of Cade Williams and his beloved wife, Gabrielle, a mighty warrior in her own right, galvanize the Templars. The Heretic’s presence lights a fire in their souls and a flame in their hearts.
Now, they prepare for their greatest challenge yet. It is time to reclaim what was thought lost.
It is time, at long last, to take the battle to the enemy.
The spellbinding Templar Chronicles urban fantasy series continues!
I'm the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of more than fifty novels, including the Templar Chronicles series, the Jeremiah Hunt trilogy, and the Great Undead War series. I've also written several books in the Rogue Angel action/adventure series from Gold Eagle. I'm a former president of the Horror Writers Association, the world's largest organization of professional horror writers, and a multiple Bram Stoker Award and International Horror Guild Award nominee.

I have had this book on my watch list, and pre-ordered it as soon as I got the notice that it was available. Once it actually downloaded, I couldn’t wait to dig in, and I was not disappointed.
It’s going to be hard to do this without a review that’s nothing but spoilers, but I’m going to try.
I’m a little annoyed, and sad, that Gabrielle and Cade are, once again, spending a book part. And, once again, they missed being together by mere minutes. But, the ways that they miss each other are always in service to the story, and I understand why it’s happening, even though I wish they could actually be together more often. The one advantage to Gabrielle having large sections of the last couple of books to herself has given her a chance to really show who she is and what she can do. The first few books she was, literally, a pawn of the enemy, and we knew her only through Cade’s devotion to her, not as her own person. Now that she’s on her own, we get to see her demonstrate both her strength and her intelligence. As much as I look forward to the next time they are actually together, I do enjoy watching what she can do on her own.
I also love that the mythology of the books is spreading out now, incorporating other traditions, and the fact the Templars don’t bat an eye about it is awesome. Cade doesn’t see that interacting with or as in conflict with what remains of his belief system, which is a great change of pace.
I wish I had re-read at least the last book before reading this one, because there were some plot threads that I didn’t remember clearly, and some details that I’m sure I missed. Oh no, I’ll have to reread them, such a shame!
The worst thing about the book was that it ended so soon. The back page tells me that the next installment isn’t coming until winter of this year, and I’m not sure how I’m going to handle that. But this time I will be prepare—when I get the release date notice, I’ll re-read the entire series to catch up and be ready.
I wish I could give this whole series 10☆ Truly amazing read from book 1 through book 8.....but we NEED book 9! I need to know what becomes of Gabbi & Caine. Does Caine become an ally that Gabbi can count on? Does Gabbi open a portal & return to the Templar comandary? Does Cade use his new found wings to fly to the capital city, Vegas? PLEASE 🙏🏼 give us book 9 soon.

Separated from his wife, Cade plots to get her back and also take the fight to the demons now ruling the world. Good story that follows both Cade and Gabrielle as the fight for survival continues.
The story moves fast and it is easy to get so into it that I lost track of how much time had passed. I love the character Cade. The writer does not make him out to be perfect like some authors do with their main character. I could not put it down until the end. I can't wait for the next one. I have read every book in this series as soon as it was released and everything else Joe has written. He is definitely one of my favorite authors. Loved the few nods to the Lord of The Rings also.
Wow, Nassise has outdone himself with this tale of the aftermath of the demon takeover. Cade an Gabbi get separated. Gabbi shows what she's made of in this one.
