Three new adventures for the students of Coal Hill Academy, based on the television series created by Patrick Ness.

4.1 Mock by Alfie Shaw

As the students of Coal Hill Academy prepare to tackle exam season, Quill and Charlie find themselves tested to their limits. Childhood memories from their homeworld threaten to hijack the present - and there are no easy answers.

4.2 The Creeper by Lizzie Hopley

While the pupils of Coal Hill Academy celebrate Hallowe'en, Quill and Matteusz investigate an alien distress call emanating from a boarded-up house in Shoreditch. Can April and Charlie reach them before it's too late? And what is the ‘Creeper’ inside?

4.3 Queen of Rhodia by Blair Mowat

Quill wakes to find herself unexpectedly back on Rhodia - which is impossible - though not quite as impossible as the life that waits for her there. To save her future, Quill must turn her back on the past. But is this the end or a new beginning?

(4.1) Mock - This one was pretty good. It delves into some of the history of Quill’s people and that of the planet of Rhodia. But the format of the story was what caught me, plus the script used the entire cast (some only briefly) and that is certainly something I enjoy in these audio episodes. (4/5)

(4.2) The Creeper - Superficially this one seems like a lot of the other types of episodes (both TV & audio) but there are a lot of little tweaks that twist the expected stuff in unusual ways. Still, it does play out like many Class stories. Nothing wrong with that. There are also some great and (slightly) unusual character combinations. And that makes some of the best bits. Oh, and it’s a Halloween themed episode! Fearful Pranks Ensue! (4/5)

(4.3) Queen of Rhodia - Another oddly off-track story. This picks up some threads from the series and runs things off into what appears to be a Mirror Universe / dream sequence / alternate reality kind of thing. All very through the looking glass. Does this one actually occur? Or does it all happen within someone’s feverish mind? (4/5)

It’s an odd way to end things, and I do hope that this isn't the end of Class at Big Finish. With luck they will continue with this series and that they’re able to actually progress the story into what would have been Series Two.

Mock: I really loved this one. The opening monologue with Quill and how it relates to the rest of the story is brilliant, and the narrative has this really creepy vibe which evokes Children Of Earth and Midnight.

Dervla Kirwan is such a perfect replacement for Katherine Kelly, to the point where you forget it's not Katherine Kelly you are actually listening to.

I love the concept of The Cleaver also. It's like Class's version of the Trickster from The Sarah Jane Adventures, but even crueller.

The Creeper: Wow, now this story is more like what I was hoping for from the third box set.

The Creeper is an absolutely phenomenal story. Creepy, unsettling and so very atmospheric, it's a tale that plays fast and loose with the Halloween setting.

And Matteusz's possession is so very creepy.

Queen Of Rhodia: This story is easily one of the greatest ever Big Finish audios. It acts as a direct sequel to The Metaphysical Engine, Or What Quill Did, and it's tons of fun from beginning to end.

Blair Mowat's script gives us such wildly different takes on the Class characters, as they play alternate universe versions of themselves. Tanya as the Queen of Rhodia is a particular standout, giving us a glimpse at a more ruthless take of the character.

I loved the conclusion also, giving this really meta conclusion to the Class series. I laughed at the reference to the unresolved cliffhanger, and Charlie's closing speech has some moving moments too, as a fan of this Who spin-off.

If we get no more Class audios, then I'm fine with this as a final story. It's a fitting conclusion to the series for sure.

"Mock" is an interesting way of touching on the topic of whether or not exams are really a good way to test students. "The Creeper" is a nice Halloween story, even if it does have cringe dialogue once in a while. "Queen of Rhodia" is the one that takes place between episodes 7 and 8 of the series. Once I finished the penultimate episode, I figured that the third story would be kind of a dream episode, and I was right. The writer really wanted to accept the challenge of figuring out how to work within limitations. The ending is pretty meta, referencing the cliffhanger ending, but saying that it's okay for things to not continue, assuring fans that the characters would probably be all right. Despite this, I really want Big Finish to be given the license to do Class series 2. These audio adventures were really good, and I'd love to see what they'd do without some of these limitations and with the knowledge of where the show was heading.

Well, if this is to be the end, then I gladly accept it. All four of the Big Finish audio box sets have added so much to the eight televised episodes. This small part of the Whoniverse will always be special to me.

This one was a rollercoaster of emotions, mostly focused on Rhodia. I loved the way it both showcased Charlie as wrong while not demonizing completely.

And then Buff!Charlie is simply a sight I'd love to see.

Mock - ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This story does something quite interesting but as with previous Class stories, it delves into the fantasy genre; that being something I am not a fan of. A mythical Quill creature trying to lure her into a false reality is quite a simple plot but it’s the way that things escalate which make it really interesting. Slowly changing elements of reality until the Cleaver shows up was done incredibly well and in creative ways but it did feel like it took a bit too long for the Cleaver to actually show up. Once he does he just sort of follows Quill about for a while until she denounces his reality, so aside from a very cool voice he doesn’t really do much. The moral conflict sparked by the Cleavers appearance is by far the best part of the story, with Charlie finally seeing his wrongs and Quill starting to get used to Earth. The writing is done masterfully of their scenes together, but things around them do lag by comparison. The story overall comes out at as a real mixed bag but enjoyable on the whole so already a stronger start than the previous boxset.

The Creeper - ⭐️⭐️

This story opens with a premise that could go almost anywhere, and decides to use it to tell the most generic story. Blah blah haunted house blah blah aliens blah blah talking someone out of possession. The cast don’t get very much to do bar April who I find really annoying in this one as all she does is defend the incredibly irritating alien who is quite clearly the bad guy. Matteusz is there mostly as background noise until he is randomly possessed for five minutes at the end, Ram is a passing mention, and only Quill gets anything to do. What she does actually do is shout at people for the most part and eventually gets some comedic scenes which are really one of the only good things about the story. It has great sound design which is one of the only things the story has going for it, given the plot really isn’t the strong suit, plus i quite simply hate the ending. Aside from the odd scene here and there, there really isn’t anything that commendable about the story

Queen Of Rhodia - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Queen of Rhodia sort of ties the knot with Class, and sadly implies there may be no audio continuation of the series. Thankfully they end on a relatively strong note with a story that has its similarities to the TV story ‘The Metaphysical Engine Or What Quill Did’ and for good reason. Lacking the visual element, that makes this story not quite as good as it could’ve been, but Quill back on Rhodia still managed to be captivating. This story relies on twists and what I appreciate is that there are clues that you can potentially solve the twist with before it happens, about what has happened to the universe. The supporting cast are all playing different Quill and Rhodians and it’s nice to see them in different roles, showing off their different acting strengths. The ending was sweet, even to the point of having a piano played version of the theme to end the story. It doesn’t solve the hanging threads of Class series 1 but does lead up to a point where it feels as if Quill has a fully developed character and her story arc has come to a close. Funnily enough, the story is just one big metaphor for resolution. Resolution for Class series 1, and resolution for Quill. The story did take quite a while to progress as the portion that was set up lasted a substantial length of the runtime, but once the climax of the story was reached it did feel justified.
