Great start to the series
After reading You Belong With Me I could not wait for this series to begin. If you enjoy Mafia Romances and have read any of the With Me In Seattle Series, or even if you are new to Kristen Proby's books you're going to want to grab this one. I was hooked from page one!
Carmine Martinelli is the eldest son to Seattle's Mob Boss and with that comes some obligations and responsibilities but there is one thing that Carmine wants most and that is justice for the murder of his Aunt and Uncle, Elena's parents from You Belong With Me. So the best way for him to seek the answers he needs is to infiltrate the Russian Mafia and he knows just how to do that.
Nadia Tarenkov's father is the head of the Bratva, some call her the ice princess others are smart and keep their mouths shut. She may come off as a spoiled princess or a girly girl but she is a kicka$$ woman. She has hopes to take over the syndicate when her father passes but not being the eldest and being a woman are two strikes against her so she plans on doing everything possible to show her father she is capable of the position.
Carmine and Nadia are great together if it was possible you would believe they could start a fire with just the sparks in their eyes because they had that much chemistry....to bad they hated one another.
This story takes us on a journey where we second guess everything because nothing is as it seems. So get ready for a bumpy ride that is steamy as F&@K and watch as Nadia and Carmine come together in the most delicious of ways.

3.5 Who Is Playing Whom Stars

Oh, I love when the best-laid plans get flipped on the one who is planning. In the new series, Underboss (With Me in Seattle Mafia #1), we have two main planners, and each thinks they know exactly what is happening and THEY have the upper hand.
Surprise...both are in for a huge surprise because they never factored in the pull, the desire, and the need to be there for each other.
This is a story about revenge for the deaths of family members for Carmine and the plan for Nadia to assert herself and become what she felt she should, breaking the long-held traditions of only the eldest male and no woman ever being the head of the family.
Carmine and Nadia have a long history together, even though their families are usually against each other. Meeting when Nadia was thirteen and Carmine sixteen, there wasn't any hesitation in Nadia's mind. Carmine had something Nadia wanted and she took it. Nadia's behavior then and as she became the beauty she was...never changed, just got more cunning and sharper. She had her goal and would go for it no matter what. If it meant letting those around her underestimate her...all the better.
Carmine was no slouch either. He grew into a dominating, handsome man who was respected by those who knew what he could do. Carmine never let the deaths of his beloved aunt and uncle fade away. He had a plan to get the necessary information leading to who did what...and it was foolproof.
He had people knowing where Nadia was at all times and it was now time to make his move.
He would woo her, capture her in his bed, making her vulnerable and easy to get the information he needed. There wasn't a woman alive who could resist Carmine's attention and skills. He was determined to get what he needed and too bad if Nadia was the one used for his revenge.
But as I always say...Nothing is as it seems. Nadia knows there are motives for this surprise interest by Carmine and it becomes a Cat and Mouse game as to who is manipulating who and then more importantly, who is coming for the both of them.
Kristen Proby understands how to start a series, how to tease us for more, and keep our interest. She has laid all the groundwork for the next entry, Headhunter.

I forgot how much I enjoyed the writing of Kristin Proby. Getting back to Seattle with all these new characters was quite the enjoyment for me. This mafia book was fast paced, dangerous, suspenseful, intriguing, filled with quick banter and had a great romance.
Carmine Martinelli and Nadia Tarenkov are from different crime families. They are an amazing couple that develops from a hate to love relationship. When Carmine decides to play Nadia for information, well he forgets that besides being gorgeous, Nadia is just as smart as he is and knows he is up to something. While they are both playing, real feelings begin for these two and this makes for complications. Not to mention that they must work together to discover who is causing chaos for their families.
While this book is about Carmine and Nadia, we also get to know his brothers, Rocco and Shane, as well as Nadia’s cousin and friend, Annika and Ivie. Once again the cast of characters is wonderful and makes me excited for all their stories to be told.

2 3/4 "Enemies to lovers indeed." Stars!
Well... this was okay. Signature sexy KP for sure. Carmine was hot. 🔥Nadia wanted to be a BA, but she fell short for me. There was some grit but it was missing a lot on the mob side. Mostly cunning or just smarts. Will I read the next book? Maybe. Probably.

this felt like a light read...and honestly, I just couldn't get past that fact LOL, call me crazy BUT there can't be a "light" mafia themed story... *shrugs*

I’ve been telling myself for years now that I need to start reading Kristen’s work seriously but somehow, I never get around to doing it. SO MANY BOOKS, SO LITTLE TIME! Well, it finally happened. Two weeks ago, when this title landed on my kindle, I started with reading You Belong With Me, then dove right into this story and now I’m on the second book in the With Me series and can’t stop! LOL But let’s chat about Underboss … WOW
I love that Kristen began this series by combining or rather putting together two strong leaders in the world of organized crime. Carmine Martinelli and Nadia Tarenkov exploded off the pages from the word go! Every interaction had a spark to it and their journey had me glued to my kindle. I was invested in the outcome of this story not just because I really liked them both as individuals, but as a couple they were power & fire! Stories with strong characters from the get-go are my crack. It adds an edge to the journey that I just gravitate to!
Underboss started high and just kept rising as the story unfolded. The suspense and danger factor to their journey just kept peaking and I was on pins and needles at times! Add in their spectacular chemistry even before their hate turned to love and this was a perfect storm reading experience. I want to devour everyone’s story now. Is it April yet?!?!?

eh, this was kinda boring.
the good: safe mafia book
the bad: it was a lot of "tell" and not enough "show" going on. when the hero called the heroine badass in the end i had to laugh lol she was anything but! she was supposed to be this badass bratva princess but could not protect herself to save her life.
safety:
safe w exception. they met when they were children (her 13 & him 16) at a wedding? party? and she boldly kisses him and runs off. then they meet in present time and are not with anyone else in book. no details on their past sexual exp either.

Carmine and Nadia have always been on the opposite sides of the war. No matter how much they wanted each other , they knew it wouldn't work out like that. Now forced to be the pawns of a game much bigger than them , all they could do was to watch themselves slowly crumble.
They both were masterminds and wanted to destroy their families. No matter how much they had to use each other for that , they would accomplish it!
Overall Opinion :
The book started out so very good. I loved the Strength Nadia possessed and how she beat Carmine at his own game. Both of them were amazing.
However somewhere along the way the chemistry between these two just sizzled out. It felt flat to me and I had a hard time completing this book. However , the storyline was interesting and it kept me hooked straight through the end. I would recommend this book to all the mafia Romance lovers out there! If you love a spitfire Heroine and a hero who is determined to bring her to her knees , then don't miss this one. This book was a one time read for me and I hope you guys love it more too!

This was my first time reading this author, and since I'm opening up to more of the mafia world in my romances, I figured I'd give this one a try. And that stunning cover didn't hurt matters either!
As for the actual storyline, it started off really great: I adore a forbidden, enemies to lovers romance and Nadia & Carmine have that in spades. Plus their chemistry was just through the roof! But as the book went on, their connection just felt so forced to me. They seemed to have lost the initial spark they had early on, and I really struggled after that.
The mafia aspect through me off too. This is definitely the lightest mafia romance I have ever read, and despite the fact that their two families were each other's sworn enemies.. They got along surprisingly well? There wasn't any real danger, no grit, I wasn't on the edge of my seat.. if was just kind of thrown in there.
Overall this wasn't a bad book by any means, I just wish the mafia aspect had a little more oomph to it.

I've come to like Kristen Proby novels. This one was very nice for a mafia romance. Something new in my genre of contemporary romances and I enjoyed the listening. I thought the performance was excellent by new narrators to this listener. Thor Thom and Kelsey Navarro did an excellent job with the narration. Enjoyable listen and will read more in this series.

Mafia romance isn’t my favorite but I enjoy Kristen’s writing so much that I gave this one a shot.
It kind of goes like a lot of Mafia books do, two families that don’t get along, but the children fall for each other and grow up. That is kind of where it detours though and I have to say I am glad. I liked that it wasn’t like all the rest.
I like Carmine the best I think, I liked that he didn’t care that Nadia shouldn’t be his he is going to make it so. She can’t stay away either not matter how much she wants to. She doesn’t want him to see her as weak, and he only ever sees her as strong. Nadia is fierce and you don't want to get on her bad side if you hurt someone she loves because look the heck out she is coming for you.
It is an interesting story and that I didn’t see coming and glad I kept listening because wow.
I am invested, and I want to know what is going to happen to the other 2 girls!
The narration was awesome and just ok. I love Kelsey’s narration, and Tor isn’t terrible he just isn’t my favorite and that’s ok to each their own right.

The narration was awesome and just ok. I love Kelsey’s narration, and Tor isn’t terrible he just isn’t my favorite and that’s ok to each their own right.

WOW, just… wow. Kristen Proby BLEW. MY. MIND. with this one. I had no idea what to expect when Kristen Proby announced the Mafia spin off of the
With Me in Seattle Series
, other than pure unadulterated excitement of course :)
Underboss exceeded every expectation I could have possibly had and then some!
Kristen is a one click author for me. I can’t get enough of her unique writing style and interwoven characters. Still, Mafia books are normally dark. I wondered how Kristen was going to do this. That was answered within the first few sentences. I was instantly hooked from the start and it just kept getting better. Underboss is so good that I didn’t want it to end. The beauty of that is, we sort of don’t have to because we get to read about them in the upcoming With Me in Seattle Mafia books. I could have kept reading this for hours. I loved Nadia and Carmine so much, both individually and as a unit. They are truly perfect for each other and have deep respect for one another. This is one of those romance novels where you just know the couple are meant to be together. You can feel it.
We’ve met Carmine and his brothers Rocco and Shane in You Belong With Me in the With Me in Seattle Series . Carmine Martinelli, is the cousin of Elena Watkins and the Seattle mob boss’s eldest son. Carmine is alpha, hot, dominant, and sexy mob boss perfection! Carmine has wealth and style. I also loved that he’s down to earth and smart. He is also levelheaded, witty and treats women with the respect they deserve.
He is swoon worthy and I am just as in love with him as I am with Nadia, the queen of this novel. Nadia is strong, funny and a badass heroine. Together, Nadia and Carmine were an unstoppable force. Initially, I had no idea how their relationship was going to work out. This book had me guessing the entire time.
I was so pleasantly surprised with the combination of danger, excitement, and love in this book. I enjoyed Nadia and Carmine’s scenes so much. They are really one of those book couples where when I am done reading, I just want more of them. We get to be with them while they travel to beautiful locations such as Colorado, Paris and Seattle.
With Kristen’s unique writing style, the picturesque locations are one of the best parts of the book. I truly felt like I was in Seattle, Denver, and France. Reading this book feels like taking a luxury vacation.
This was such an enjoyable read. I loved every minute of it. I love Kristen Proby’s take on the Mafia genre and I can’t wait for every single one of these books! My favorite part, however, was the most important part of a romance novel, the ROMANCE. I love reading a novel where I can feel the love between the two people as much as I did here. I just know I won’t forget Carmine and Nadia. I felt the connection between them. I am so glad we have a new series with new characters! I couldn’t put it down. I’m sure everyone, especially fans of Kristen Proby will LOVE this book as much as I did.

Wow, wow, wow.....this book was so not what I expected but holy hell it was everything I wanted in a Kristen Proby mafia romance! From the sexy as sin cover to the captivating story, I inhaled this book like my life depended on it and refused to put it down.
Carmine and Nadia were explosive, between their banter and sexual chemistry you can't help but be seduced by their story. This book was addicting, suspenseful, enthralling and hands down a page turner.

HOLY. EFFING. WOW!!! Kristen Proby is a freaking goddess and blew my mind with her novel and take on mafia romance, UNDERBOSS!!
To say I loved it is putting it mildly! It’s mafia, yes, but with Kristen’s perfect infusion of swoony romance and sizzling chemistry. Carmine and Nadia are perfection together and separately and in classic Proby form, after finishing their story I’m absolutely in love with them! I swear to everything that there’s nothing this author cannot write perfectly. 5 stars!!

I loved these characters so much! I would consider this more romantic suspense over mafia really. To me mafia romance is super gritty, dark and makes you squint when you read because the details are usually specific and explicit. This is a good alternative for those that may want a taste of that, but not as intense. I love KP’s writing! I definitely will keep going because I’m invested in these characters!

I loved that the player was played and how
These two were perfect for each other
Both were determined to achieve their goals and still, they used their heads and their hearts to achieve them

For me that was a big positive - none of that back and forth do I or don't I
They communicated - sure initially they both were a bit devious and underhanded but every relationship has its hardships (yes I am laughing so hard as I typed that)

Oh my ! How I love the enemies to lovers genre and Carmine and Nadia brought their A game !
This is the first in the With Me in Seattle Mafia series and we have two rival families represented here. This couple has taken keep your friends close and your enemies closer to a new level as they end up getting in to bed with the enemy and it has never been so satisfying.
What begins as a means to keep an eye on one another and gather secret intel soon becomes more than either one could have ever anticipated. This couple soon finds themselves in the thick of murder, drug dealings and traitors within their family ranks. It soon becomes apparent that working together and using their talents is far better than not trusting one another. Who can you trust, watch your back and always dig deeper to find the truth but the more you dig you may not like what you uncover !

Sexy and suspenseful.
I've said and and I repeat: Kristen's books are always a safe read.
This is a mafia romance, but it doesn't carry the customary grit and darkness that a mafia romance brings (although sometimes the mood calls for it).
As I said, it was sexy and it had suspense and action. The characters were enjoyable and it was a good story to read and forget about life and problems.
It's sort of an enemies to lovers romance and the main characters work well together in so many ways. They come from the same world, so they understand each other's priorities and way of thinking.
And what started as a deceiftul way to bring the other down quickly turns into an alliance. They learn they can trust each other with other with their secrets, their needs, their lives and specially their hearts.
And now I'm excited for Carmine's brothers.

I've read my fair share of mafia fiction, but UNDERBOSS is a new favorite for a couple of reasons. First, the story as a whole is not brutally dark and heinous. Mafia fiction tends to be darker than I would like most of the time. Kristen Proby manages to create the ideal balance of gritty and hot romance.
Another common problem with mafia romance is character development, and I usually find myself disliking everyone. This is largely due to the stereotypes that keep repeating. In UNDERBOSS, Carmine is a sexy alpha male, but he has a conscientious attitude instead of being a total jerk. Nadia is an amazing female character because she is not the simpering virgin waiting to marry some guy. Nadia is her own woman.
Together, Carmine and Nadia are a dynamic force to be reckoned with who complement each other well. This new With Me In Seattle spinoff series is off to an excellent start. I can't wait to see what happens next!

OMG, if I could give this story more than 5 stars I would!!!! Suspense, drama, nail biting story that is hard to put down for one minute!!!! Nadia Tarenkov is the daughter of a Bratva boss, Carmine Martinelli is the oldest son of a mafia family, together they need to uncover who is behind the poisoning of a member of Nadia's father inner circle with a drink which was meant for the don? Their journey started when Carmine went in search of Nadia in Miami seeking revenge for the murder of a close family member, soon the ruse will take another turn and they are in the middle of searching for killer. When Nadia is attacked and left barely standing, things start to heat up. The story will take you on a rollercoaster ride of thrills like you never experienced before. Carmine and Nadia are a match made in heaven, both are strong believers in family and what they represent. However, they are rivals and yet together they are stronger and complete each other. Nadia is smart and a strong leader and so is Carmine with the help of his brothers Rocco who works in the family business and Shane who works for??? I can't wait to see what Shane and Rocco's stories have in store for us. I volunteered to review this story.

Holy Batman Underboss was one sexy, flaming hot read! If I could give it more than 5 stars I would and it will definitely be in my top reads for 2021.
Nadia and Carmine are sworn enemies who seem to find themselves thrown together a lot lately. Being they each come from well-known Mob families - from an early age, the two were groomed to be major players in their families. Nadia is strikingly gorgeous and Carmine looks as if he could grace the covers of GQ - they each have had minor crushes on each other over the years - but due to their place in their families knew nothing could ever come of it. So it’s easier to hate than to love and not be able to hold onto it Right?
The two are thrown together, after an attempted assignation on one of their fathers, to investigate who was behind the plot and why.
As secrets are revealed, sparks start to fly between these two hot-headed enemies. And boy does the flames rage high between these two!
I think this has to be one of the sexiest books from Kristen! The chemistry between these two had me smiling at time and blushing at other times. I can not wait for more With Me Mafia!!

She is ruthless, lethal, smart, strong, and determined to play with the big boys and become the family boss someday. But lately, she has been having some trouble being targeted and now it seems someone is going after others as well.
Carmine Martinelli should be off-limits. He belongs to another mafia family although they are not exactly rivals, but it is always a volatile situation. And he may still be harboring some bitterness for some perceived wrongs. He is intelligent, vengeful, tough, bossy, and a complete alpha. But he also has a softer, caring, and protective side to him as well.
As they begin spending time together as enemies, it is a game of who is playing who. It is hard to know what is real and what are lies, but their chemistry is undeniable. But when things ramp up and they truly have to work together for their own safety and the good of their families, things start to get more complicated and messy. Trust, protection, and loyalty become even more important and these two tough and stubborn individuals start getting more attached. They make an imposing team, but they did not expect to actually catch feelings.
This is a sexy, suspenseful, fast-moving romance with steam, intrigue, and mafia business. There is murder, mayhem, mystery, and drama. But this feels more life mafia lite. Even though there is violence, it is not terribly dark or gritty and the scenes resolve quickly.
We also get to know their families including his brothers Shane and Rocco, and her friends Annika and Ivie that we will see more of in future stories.
