Julia Masters spent the last two years in a Milwaukee convent grieving the loss of her mother. When it’s time for her to leave, she is conflicted about going back to the small farm she called home. Her brother left for the West, and she’d be alone on the farm. Seeing an ad for female Pinkerton agents, she chooses to go to Denver and apply.

West Lange enjoys his life as a Pinkerton agent. Chasing down criminals and infiltrating gangs of lawbreakers make his heart soar with excitement. However, he does enjoy working on his own. His free lifestyle suits him quite well.

When Archie Gordon, head of the Denver office of the Pinkerton Agency, hires Julia and assigns her to West for her first case, both agree until Archie explains they must marry first.

Will these two people from different lifestyles and attitudes find love trying to solve a murder and a mystery, or will they accept the offer to annul the marriage at the end of the case?

A slightly different storyline than the others

If you have been reading this series but want something a little different than this is fir you. A strong independent woman, a strong independent man each teamed up and “married” to go out to work on a case. Each doing what they do independently but then learning what they can do together got the job done and better than they ever thought.
This is part of a series but each story is independent of the others so you can read them out of order.
And no sexual references or language so I can recommend this book to anyone who wants a clean book to read.

All these women drive Ward to distraction...

...and lead him a merry dance whilst doing so!
Ward is convinced that as the lead agent he will have to teach Julia everything, but Julia has plenty to teach Ward, especially about women and the way they think. Are they devious? Or just very clever? He has no idea and Julia leaves Ward speechless again and again.
A sweet addition to the series, I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Julia’s story is one of courage and transformation. I loved how she stepped out of grief and into a role no one expected of her a female Pinkerton agent in a world dominated by men. The author beautifully portrays her strength and vulnerability as she navigates danger and unexpected love. This book isn’t just about romance; it’s about reclaiming purpose after loss. A truly inspiring historical journey.

Bar Nun

Julia's story is that of a brief stricken woman who went to the convent for solace after her mother dies. But after two years it is evident that she is not going to commit to the order and so she moved on to Denver and the Pinkerton Agency. West is the typical agent who is totally against marrying until forced to. Together, she proves to be an asset and he falls - hard.

West looks at Julia and sees a small beautiful young lady that has spent the last two years at a convent. He totally fails to see beneath the outside veneer. Julia is smart, used to hard work and hates being underestimated. Marianne Spitzer's story is a romance, a mystery and comedy to watch unfold. I loved this story.

fun

This was a fun book to read! I enjoyed the strong character of Julia & how she kept her head and didn’t let the other characters make her decisions for her! This is a clean romance.

Oh so good!

Julia is a sassy little agent that I really liked! I don't think West really knew what to do with her half the time! But together they were so much fun!!

This was a very funny book. And it was full of interesting ways to explain how some people make foolish choices but forgiveness is so important.

Julia was in a convent, trying to recover after her Mother's death. But now she's feeling a pull back to life again. She sees the ad for lady Pinkerton Agents and decides that's what she wants to try.
West is against marrying but, like all the agents before him, he's got to marry the new trainee if he wants to keep his job. He thought his new wife was practically a nun but she keeps surprising him.
A priest was attacked after it was discovered he had a valuable treasure. Can West and Julia work together to locate the treasure?
This is a clean, sweet read. I thought it was cute.
