Judith McAdams’ brother in New Mexico hasn’t been heard from since a letter saying he had been shot. In the letter he wrote he was being harassed by a neighbor who wanted his ranch for the water source. She vows to go help him in any way she can. The woman who raised her insists on going. Judith wires the marshal to check on her brother. When he refuses, she goes to the Pinkerton Detective Agency in Denver. She learns she can become a Pinkerton agent if she marries one and seizes the opportunity.
Peyton Knight values his job as a Pinkerton agent and is good at being a lawman. To keep the job he reluctantly agrees to a marriage of convenience with Judith. Together they will go to her brother’s rescue. Peyton is impressed with the beautiful redhead—if only she would admit he knows best. He even admires his mother-in-law but how did he end up with her on their trip? At least he’s found three men he trusts to help him rescue the brother.
Their journey is filled with obstacles. Will Judith’s brother still be alive by the time they reach him? When they resolve the ranch issue, will Judith and Peyton part ways?

An Agent For Judith
Judith's brother hasn't written in weeks and is presumably in serious trouble in New Mexico. She and their mom travel to Denver to higher Pinkerton agents to find and help her brother. When she insists on going to New Mexico too, she becomes a Pinkerton Agent married to a very unwilling Peyton. As the 3 of them travel to find her brother, will she and Peyton find common ground and learn to get along or will they even make it out alive?

Mystery encompassing the Pinkerton credo. Judith needs to see if her brother is alive. He sixth sense says he is, but his normal communication has stopped and she is beyond concerned. When she turns to the Pinkerton Agency, Archie won't let he accompany the agent, Peyton, as a civilian so a wedding on paper ensues. What follows is a story of six people, who have their own stories, who come together in an amazing plot to rescue Judith's brother.

One of my favourite of the series
I really like Peyton and his Red! The plot is great, Peyton and Red are feisty, with sass and there is a strong supporting cast too!
My only disappointment is that we don't get to know how Mama and Jeff fair in their search for HEA, and yes, I know this isn't their story...but it kind of is!

Loved it!!
This book was so good! Judith and Payten were perfect for each other. But this story had a lot of Little side stories that made it so I couldn't put it down until I finished it!

For me every book that Caroline has written they have been pure page turners and that includes this one. This is a western that also has a sassy woman in it and she is a real head turner. I just loved this book and Caroline hit a home run with this.

good story
This was a good story that addressed a female Pinkerton agent from a new perspective. Overall, it’s a clean romance with a lot of western style adventure.

Judith's brother has inherited a ranch. The previous owner died after being beaten because he wouldn't sell to the man that controls the town. That was a couple weeks ago and Judith hasn't heard from her brother since. She's convinced he's in danger so she hires the Pinkerton Detectives to help her. She becomes an agent, marries an experienced agent and sets out to rescue her brother, with Mama along - her nanny that she views a family.
Peyton didn't want a wife but here he is. It's tough to run the show when his stubborn wife controls the purse strings.
Can they reach Judith's brother in time? Will they have trouble along the way? Will anyone in town give them the information they need?
It was a clean, sweet romance.
