Akira Toriyama (鳥山明) was a Japanese manga artist and character designer. He first achieved mainstream recognition for creating the popular manga series Dr. Slump, before going on to create Dragon Ball (his most famous work) and acting as a character designer for several popular video games such as the Dragon Quest series, Chrono Trigger, and Blue Dragon. Toriyama came to be regarded as one of the most important authors in the history of manga with his works highly influential and popular, particularly Dragon Ball, which many manga artists cite as a source of inspiration. He earned the 1981 Shogakukan Manga Award for best shōnen/shōjo manga with Dr. Slump, and it went on to sell over 35 million copies in Japan. It was adapted into a successful anime series, with a second anime created in 1997, 13 years after the manga ended. His next series, Dragon Ball, would become one of the most popular and successful manga in the world. Having sold 260 million copies worldwide, it is one of the best-selling manga series of all time and is considered a key work in increasing manga circulation to its peak in the mid-1980s and mid-1990s. Overseas, Dragon Ball's anime adaptations have been more successful than the manga and are credited with boosting anime's popularity in the Western world. In 2019, Toriyama was decorated a Chevalier of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his contributions to the arts. In October 2024, Toriyama was inducted into the Harvey Awards Hall of Fame.
EN Our heroes continue striving to stop Moro’s forces and prevent Earth’s destruction.
Meanwhile, Son Goku — who has been away, training intensely for this confrontation — finally returns to the battlefield. Among all of Earth’s heroes, he is perhaps the only one with enough power to face Moro on equal terms.
--
I'm such a sucker for Goku arriving just in time to take down the bad guy.
But this is actually one of the best volumes of the series so far. Moro is a wicked villain, up there with Cell and King Picollo and Freeza for using his assholishness to make him unique. I also liked this volume a lot because Goku gets to go hand to hand with Moro which we don't see often in later DBZ fights. Also, how awesome was it to see cocky Vegeta once more? yeah this volume was pretty fucking great.
One star for the absolute lack of creativity, this story arc is basically the Freeza saga beat for beat. Toriyama is one of the laziest writers in the medium right now, and this is it for me, I'm out. I much rather re-read the original series.
Another great action packed volume. The Z fighters (can I still call them that?), are mopping up the criminals in the prelims. They are doing ok till Moro decides to upgrade them. Finally returning to Earth Goku must put his new training to use. Can he consciously tap into the power of Ultra Instinct? Even then will it be enough.
Two things I really like about the comics over the animated series are:
1. Goku left the others way too far way behind by the time he turned Super Saiyan, apart from Gohan, but since Goku reached SS3 never mind SS God or SS Blue, but in the series the others seemed to be catching up to him. Here they atleast realiseand acknowledge how far the power power gap between them is.
2. In this book they realise it is not just about power and strength and add speed l, techniques and tactics to the fights as well.
I really cannot wait to see what happens next I think it is going to be an all out war in the next issues with a surprise lurking. I can't hive it away without spoiling this book.
Talk about an intense and battle focused volume cover to cover, and it’s the arcs/segments that truly show the stylistic fighting beauty of this series along with some truly remarkable encounters that even after all these years just get greater and greater. To get to see goku finally starting to grasp his ultra instinct potential was top tier only to then have vegeta come in right at the end to be like my turn! Toriyama was a true visionary and artist and it shows. 4.25/5
Great arc end and loved the whole closure to the chapter with Moro.
We get a glimpse of what would follow maybe with the "new" OP character that saved the day! Yeah yeah, Goku saved the day (again) but with the help of someone that I think we'll get more of in the future.
Great end, and can't wait for what's going to happen next! Hope we get a peaceful chapter or two before a new villain arrives!
This volume continues the battle against Moro's goons but also sees the arrival of Moro himself to the battlefield, cranking up the tension and dread as the good guys struggle to keep Earth protected. Similar to the previous volume, there's more teasing than actual doing once again but with the ending, we finally get to the juicy parts by the end of the volume.
Dragon Ball Super is such a far cry from the original DB/DBZ that I really don't know why I even bother. Firstly, DBS treats Goku like shit most of the time and insists on lionizing Vegeta. I mean, seriously, what the heck? I know there are factions of fans idolizing Vegeta, but let's be honest: his appeal throughout the DB and DBZ was mostly based on his development arc, from a villain to a somewhat selfish and reluctant, but hero. Here, with Goku so diminished and whole Son Goku family relegated more or less to the role of furniture (Chi-Chi gets shafted so badly it's not even worth a comment) Vegeta is suddenly THE big self-made hero of the series. It goes against the whole legacy, and really pisses me off.
As for this particular volume, once again it's a filler and nothing more. Nothing happens. Everybody fights but it's so boring and without real stakes that the characters might've as well just lied down and napped all this time, and the result would be the same. If you're an insomniac, take this volume with you to bed - it will lull you to sleep within first few pages. It's gratuitous, pandering to the fans with constant regurgitation of old motifs and themes.
I'm really at the end of my patience with this series.
The main battle begins! After the other Z-Fighters fight against the escaped prisoners, Moro descends to the ground. Powering up Saganbo, it looks like Krillin and Piccolo may lose, when Goku returns to Earth. Using his new technique of Ultra Instinct -Sign-, Goku defeats him and then is able to stand toe to toe with Moro, who starts testing him. Both power to full and fight hard. Vegeta senses that Goku needs help, so he quickly demands that he be taught Instant Transmission from the teachers on Yardrat. Mastering it faster than anyone before, Vegeta goes to Earth, and begins his fight against Moro.... next time... DBS is a "get what you expect" fighting manga. I still love it after all this time. Can't wait to see Moro defeated. Recommend.
Great volume but nothing particularly amazing. Would be great to halve some lasting villains or returning heroes to intersect the stories, but I dont know if that's something we will ever see (even into the Granolah arc). Just let someone besides the main duo shine already, bring back the other universes, make the Angel's and Zeno important to the story somehow, use Broly or Jiren, fuck with the timeline and get Frieza manipulating. "Newest biggest bad" is getting tired, but god damn the fights and transformations and character development are super strong in the past few volumes
4.75 Stars. A fantastic volume with showings from most of the z warriors. Of course Goku and Vegeta had the biggest spotlights next to Morro but Piccolo and Gohan are always fun to see teaming up. I quite enjoy when speed is a major factor in a fight as it doesn't happen too often in Dragon Ball and I believe it was executed expertly in this volume. Goku being dead serious is always a good time. To top it all off Vegeta using the instant transmission is one of my favorite things to come out of this arc. Overall a very good installment.

The build up to the main battle was so good, watching the z fighter's again filled me with such nostalgia and then Goku arrives, late as usual and it's all looking great!
The battles that come after are great and the way the volume ended has me so eager to read the next volume!!!
Krillin fights and defeets Yunba. He then join Master Roshi who fight the trio Miza, Iwaza and Kikaza who fused. Tien Shinhan and Chiaotzu fight Bikkura Quoitur and managed to defeat him. Yamcha have a hard time fight Zauyogi and Tien Shinhan and Chiaotzu assist him. Android #17 and Android #18 managed to get the upperhand in the battle against Seven-Three and Shimorekka. Then, Moro and Saganbo come down to Earth to take over. Moro give a powerup to Saganbo. It needs Android #17, Android #18, Gohan, Piccolo and Jaco to stop Saganbo. Krillin blast his chi to attract Goku and Goku instantly teleport to Earth. Goku defeats the trio, Zauyogi and then he went to fight Saganbo. Saganbo still can withstand all Goku's attacks until he collapsed as his body cannot withstand more energy from Moro. Goku fights Moro with the technique of the gods, Ultra Instinct -Sign-.
Goku get the upperhand in the fight and he managed to dodge Moro's energy absorption. Moro released his full power to fight Goku. Goku's Ultra Instinct wear off. According to Merus, Goku only managed to achieve -Sign- level of the Ultra Instinct. -Sign- is the gateway to the Ultra Instinct and it is unstable and consume too much stamina. Goku turned again into Ultra Instinct -Sign- to continue the battle. Both of them fight with full power. Moro get the upperhand and Goku was defeated. Android #17 and Android #18 join the battle again. Suddenly, Vegeta appears by using the instant teleportation.
So in this volume the main villain how is Moro finally shows up on earth where the z-fighters and galatic patrol have to fight off Moro and his goons. Until Goku and Vegeta can get back to the planet in time. What i liked about this book was seeing how strong these guys were and seeing how much Goku and Vegeta have grown in power to take on this new threat that they have to face. And seeing how much control they have over their power and what they have learned while training was cool to see. There wasn't really anything that i dislike about this volume. I think people who would enjoy this style of shonen manga would enjoy this manga or any dragon ball consumer. And people who just what to read manga but don't know where to start.
This one was so epic and I mean we get the fights of Z-warriors vs Moro forces and their loss when Moro arrives and I like how we see Goku's entrance and how bad ass he is and the way he takes down the enemies is awesome and then seeing Moro vs him but the twists and turns and this volume is straight up fights and it reads very fast and thats lovely and always appreciated, the art is peak here and then the UI thing happening, Vegeta training and all that and the obvious twists and then the prince of saiyans has come when things looked down and its gonna get exciting!! Seriously, what a volume, this moro arc is getting so interesting and epic and really feels like something nostalgic and new at the same time!!
It looks like its going to be the ultimate battle royal on Earth....the Z Soldiers versus the Galactic Prisoner Inmates. As usual Goku is out of pocket and that leaves the gang to battle a huge amount of vile villains in an entertaining first part of this volume! The Androids, Krillian, Piccolo, Master Roshi, Ten Shen Han, Chaozu, Yamcha, Gohan....the gang is all here and that makes this volume especially satisfying. Looks like we get to see Ultra Instinct more refined in this volume as well. The battle is EPIC! The stakes are the UNIVERSE! My biggest complaint is not for one moment did I believe the Z Soldiers would not prevail...but at this point in the long running series, should that really come as a surprise? Great art and entertaining situations fill this volume to the brim!
The fights continue on Earth against the Galactic criminals, all fighting in the name of Moro. When it seems the DB fighters are mostly on the winning hand, the time has come for Moro to intervene himself. In first instance it’s Saganbo who takes on the DB fighters. With a power boost from Moro he easily takes on the opposition. This is the moment for Goku to return and intervene. What comes afterwards is classic DB with a great fight against Moro and some nice twist and turns (great art style here).
In the end it’s however still Moro who is on the winning hand against Goku. The time has come for Vegeta to return from training and take on Moro himself.
Conclusion: This was a great volume. Especially the fight between Goku and Moru is one of the highlights in the DBS series so far Rating: 4/5
Not too much happening in this volume but I’m grateful that the dragon ball mangas don’t do fillers like the animes did. Goku arrives just in time and goes up against Moro, only to not be strong enough (for now right?). Vegeta shows up right at the end and I’m actually glad to see him. I’ve never liked Vegeta much in dbz but I really like him in super. He still is annoying with his competitive side (especially towards Goku) but he seems like a better man all around in this series.
Well plotnya menjadi melelahkan hhe. Namun utk jilid ini setidaknya beberapa adegan pertarungan Moro vs Goku cukup memberikan nuansa kenangan utk seri Dragon Ball asli hho
9/10 the z fighters continue to fight off Moro’s goons, until they start to lose. Then, goku shows up and beats everyone up except this one goon; Saganbo. Saganbo kept getting power boosted by Moro. Goku had to use ssj blue and tapped into ultra instinct but not fully. Then he went head to head with Moro but came up short. Vegeta was the quickest person ever to learn instant transmission and teleported to goku right in time to save the day.

Kuririn and Muten Roshi work hard to get three female prisoners back to the galactic prison. Goku continues to search for Moro. Saganbo fights with Goku and Goku beats him. Next Goku faces off against Moro and Vegeta returns to Earth to help him out.

This storyline started slowly but has been picking up steam ever since. This volume shows the best action in the saga up to this point and the exciting possibility that Vegeta may finally get his chance to shine.
You can always expect great fights and pure enjoyment from DB. I was worried going into reading the manga that the fights would be harder to follow and not as entertaining as the show, but I’m so glad that I was wrong. Now onto Vegeta’s turn! 👏
This arc is really blowing me away with some of it's subversions on typical DB tropes. Moro is also a great villain with an excellent interesting set of moves and powers, hard to keep things fresh in this world!
