The Pinkerton Matchmaker #79

An Agent for Amaryllis

Rate this book
Trouble always seems to find her.

If only he hadn’t been raised to help a maiden in need.

June 1878

Amaryllis Flanders—Amy for short—has always been a tomboy. Never mind that her sister, Jessica, is constantly reprimanding her for her boyish ways. She wants to be involved in more than mindless housework or helping to tend her sister and brother-in-law’s babies. With her friend, Sarah’s, wedding taking place in Denver, Colorado, Amy can hardly wait to begin her grand adventure. But even she has no idea of the harrowing experience it will be.

Derrick Baldwin doesn’t know what hit him. He was engaged to Sarah Packard until she decided to marry her childhood friend. Now that the wedding’s been called off, he’s glad to see all of his guests leaving. He just wants to be left in peace. But the maddeningly spirited and foolish Amy unwittingly became the recipient of a mysterious package, and now, the package has suddenly disappeared. Whoever sent it wants it back, and they’re willing to kill to get it. The only way he can keep Amy safe is to become a Pinkerton agent and help her solve the case, hopefully before their luck runs out—or before he realizes that he has fallen in love with her.

Read each of the Pinkerton Matchmaker stories in any order. These agents give the phrase "married to your work" a whole new meaning!

This book hooks you on the first page and doesn't let go. It has action, suspense, a mystery to solve and romance. It is a well written inspirational read that will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. I love how Amy never lost her faith no matter what happened. My favorite quote from this book was: No matter who or what in this world made her feel like she was nothing, her Heavenly Father loved her unconditionally. She had His promise, which gave her strength. I received a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Amaryllis Flanders has acted like a tomboy most of her life. She wants to be involved in more than house work and helping her sister with her children.

Derrick Baldwin is a rancher that was engaged to Sarah Packard until she decided to marry another man. Now that the wedding has been called off. He is helping his guest to return home when things start to happen that will change his life.

This book was a wonderful story with adventure, action, suspense and a mystery to solve. It grabbed my attention and keep me reading until the end. It also had me laughing a little too.

I received a complimentary copy for the author. This is my honest unbiased opinion.

I liked the author's first few books in the series but this is book felt like it would have been better as a companion tale. Only one of the main characters becomes a Pinkerton, for a few minutes right at the end, so I wouldn't really say it was the Pinkertons that matched them.
The story picks up where An Agent For Sarah (#76) ends. Amy (Amaryllis) is feeling like she wants her own life but that no one will ever love her because she's not a refined lady - at 17.
Derrick wants to leave forget about the recent events and get back to his ranch. But Amy's in danger so the whole family need to stay with Derrick and trying to solve the mystery.

Wonderful Adventure.

Julia Ridgemont does it again in this wonderful adventure of dislike turned to live and enough suspense to hook a reader. The Pinkerton Matchmaker series is excellent and with the Author's talent the spunky Heroine shows her Hero not all women need to be soft and demure. The characters have complexity and dialogue flows, pulling the Reader into an excellent storyline. While the book can be a stand alone, Readers will do better having read previous books in the series to understand some of the characters and their background.

Do you

Derrick Baldwin is realing after being exchanged at the altar for another groom. He can't wait to send everyone back to Virginia. But at the train station his whole life and that of his former fiances best friend goes up side down. What does a package have to do with a near kidnapping and why is it up to him to take care of Amy? Turns out he's a pretty good detective.

I enjoyed this story and loved the connection to other characters from other stories. This story has action, mystery, romance, and some humor. I enjoyed reading Amaryllis's story and finding she is pretty tough, smart woman. There are a lot of twists and turns to this story that help make this story more interesting. Definitely a well written clean story.

Oh my, such a sweet and fun and delightful story. Amaryllis has a true purpose in becoming a Pinkerton agent. Gerard is hoping that becoming an agent would help with some past problems. How these two work together is really funny. Truly a must read. I felt like I was right there with the two of them figuring things out

Cute story though I'm not really sure that the match was because of Pinkertons. But whatever. The story was still cute. Poor Amaryllis, all of 17, feels like she'll never fit in since she is such a tomboy. But opposites attract and she finds her place.

Mild Christian themes that fit well into the story.

Loved it.

You know how when you just immediately like someone. Like BAM!! That's how I was with ALL the characters in this book. To the stubborn, hard-headed, worrisome, kind, friendly, hardworking, self doubt, and I'm better than you are characters. Plus the bad guys!! All great. Loved this book full of family, mystery, and faith. Five stars!!!!

Julia Ridgmont knows how to put a different twist on a Pinkerton Matchmaker book. Amaryllis and Derrick definitely won't fit the normal agent mold. This book has romance, mystery, and danger with a surprise twist. It was fun to read.
