You know who really doesn't want you to wash your hands? Germs.
Germs vs. Soap shows children (and adults) the secret world of germs and how much germs absolutely, positively do NOT like soap. In fact, these germs will do anything to trick kids into not washing their hands with soap because it's the one thing standing between them and their beloved energy cupcakes. And all they want is to gobble up all the energy cupcakes humans have to offer and then spread to eat some more. But only if soap doesn't get in the way. Otherwise, it's all down the drain for them.
Children need to learn proper hand hygiene, but it does matter how you tell them. Did you jumpstart their imagination? A quirky book like Germs vs. Soap sticks with kids. The story becomes real, right there in the palm of their hands, the moment they step in front of the sink and pump some soap. Germs, beware!
Sorry to disappoint, but Didi Dragon is not actually a dragon. She has one dragon-like tendency, though, which is she can only sleep in cold, dark rooms, kinda like a cave. Otherwise she’s rather jumpy with sudden noises, and hiccups if her tacos are too spicy. If she could have a super power, it would be to fly, of course. She likes to roller skate, dance while cleaning, and play futbol. She’s not very good at those things, but it sure looks like she has fun.
Oh yeah, she’s currently writing Cavities vs. Toothpaste.
I won this book on Goodreads Giveaway! Thanks, Goodreads!!
This is a cute and easy read for children. Fun way to teach children the importance of cleanliness and washing their hands and germs, especially with what's going on right now, in the world.
I was expecting it to be another poster-like thing on how to wash your hands in the time of the pandemic, but this version is actually fun. At least my kid read it through delightedly and liked it, and that's what matters, right?
I almost forgot the disclaimer! I received a Kindle copy of this book via a Goodreads giveaway in exchange of my completely honest review. And I'm glad i did.
If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would! A hilarious book to help teach kids the importance and how-to of good hand washing. It made me laugh out loud!
Germs vs. Soap: A Silly Hygiene Book about Washing Hands! by Didi Dragon, illustrated by Hannah Robinett, turns a simple hygiene lesson into an energetic and laugh-out-loud story. What makes this book stand out is its humor. Didi Dragon takes what could easily be a dry, instructional topic and transforms it into a joyful, memorable tale. Kids aren’t lectured — they’re entertained, giggling through the antics while picking up real lessons about hygiene. Hannah Robinett’s illustrations burst with motion and sparkle, bringing the battle between grime and cleanliness to life in a way that will keep children glued to every page. The combination of expressive characters and vibrant details makes the “ick” factor more funny than gross, turning germs into lovable villains you actually want to defeat.

Germs vs. Soap (children's book, science, health, wellness, germs, hygiene, reading for information, COVID-19, coronavirus)
Germs vs. Soap teaches us about germs, how they get into our bodies, and how they make us sick. It also teaches us how soap fights germs and how to wash our hands properly. The author uses a fun cupcake metaphor and kid-friendly vocabulary to help with comprehension.
If you are a teacher, Germ vs. Soap is perfect for your health, hygiene, and science lessons.
Best for elementary school students. Whole group read aloud.
How has there not been a book like this out in the world about germs for kids?????? With the daily "did-you-actually-wash-your-hands??" battles and hovering over my kids to make sure they're actually doing a good job (ugh), especially now in a pandemic, I've been searching high and low for a book like this. It's brimming with just as much imagination and fun as it is info. I hear my 5-year-old talking in the squeaky germ voices in the bathroom while she washes her hands according to the CDC guidelines and sends the germs down the drain. lol, seriously. This book is magic.
I want to thank Didi Dragon, author and Goodreads First Reads Giveaway for the eBook Kindle copy of Germs vs. Soap that I won in the Giveaway.
The illustrations are perfect to help the story and show children that washing their hands is important to get rid of germs that make people sick. The illustrations help explain the story, which helps children to increase understanding how germs and soap interact. I enjoyed sharing this story with my great granddaughter now age five and she loved it.
This was a really fun book! It simplified some scientific concepts down so that kids would be able to understand both why they need to wash their hands, and why they need to use soap when they do. It was fun even for me as an adult to read this, especially the dialog between the germs. I think kids would love this! Note: I received this book for free through Goodreads Giveaways.
Written "bedtime story" style, as if being told to child(ren) on the fly. Super cute story about how germs spread and what we need to do to get rid of them! Would recommend for pre-school and elementary grade children. Illustrations are great for teaching little ones where germs hide and how to properly wash hands.
Cute way to reinforce good hand-washing habits! Ms. Quicksall’s YouTube read-aloud of this story includes fun sound effects and voices that complement the story in an engaging way. The story’s illustrations are cute, and the text includes story narration and germ speech bubbles or dialogue. Both of these features are sure to engage readers.
Everyone knows that washing hands is important, but just how important it is and how to do it well are explained clearly and whimsically in this book. Germs vs. Soap is a delightful adventure that helps kids understand the importance of washing their hands with soap. It's humorous and insightful, perfect for classrooms. I really enjoyed reading it and my students love it too!
There are some things I do not understand...saying for crying out loud in a kids book, not ok. Saying that germs have toots, doesnt really explain what is happening, although I think the author is trying to say that that is how germs multiply. I would say this book is not for little kids at all...
This book somehow balanced being cute and entertaining with being informative, too! This is a good reminder about washing hands properly for our science lesson today.
