Aya reaffirms her deep love for Bucho after attending her co-worker's wedding. But who would've guessed that Bucho's ex-wife would show up in their office as a representative of the two company's joint project...?! Presented by Yumi Hisawa, comes another heart-throbbing addition to the risqué love story of a girl who lost love and her sadistic boss, living under the same roof!
Volume five is what typically would be the “love rival” volume. We ended the previous entry with Akira’s ex-wife, Kyouko Tachibana, showing up at the company to work on a project with him. Turns out the whole office knows Akira’s ex-wife on sight, except Aya. She must have started working there after the divorce.
We learn that Tachibana was actually maneuvered to go there thanks to Akira’s meddling director. In a callback to volume one, we learn it was the director who Akira was on the phone with - he’d apparently been trying to set Akira up on dates, which he finally finagled his way out of by telling the director that he’s not over his ex-wife yet. Well, now the director is trying to play matchmaker between Akira and Tachibana, leaving Akira wanting to kick himself over digging his own grave. However, as soon as he learns this he tells the director in no uncertain terms that his heart already belongs to someone else.
Aya meets Tachibana on accident, but discovers who she is almost immediately after. Tachibana doesn’t know who Aya is to Akira and so lets it slip that working with him isn’t the easiest because they didn’t divorce because they hate each other. However, thanks to Akira popping in at the tail end of that, Tachibana quickly puts two and two together.
We finally get the back story of Akira’s marriage to Tachibana, which he tells to Aya - .
Aya even asks Tachibana who Izumi is, and while she does know, she smiles and mysteriously tells Aya to ask Akira. Darn it!
I really enjoyed this volume because we got to see the difference in how Akira was with Tachibana in the past versus the way he is with Aya in the present day. It’s night and day, really, and it’s the first time that I really appreciated the passionate love he feels for Aya. There are no real “love rival” shenanigans in this volume. Akira is 100% for Aya the whole way through despite Aya’s worries that she may lose him and Tachibana doesn’t try to stir up anything unnecessary.
My only question now (well, besides the Izumi thing and how long Akira’s had feelings for Aya) was, would we be seeing Aya’s ex on page?
These two are adorable! Spice level was down in this volume and with a meeting of the family in the next one I’m not sure how spicy that one will be either… No better way to find out then to continue on!
They are adding a few small characters and hints at trouble in paradise, and though I know this is supposed to be lover a longer span of time, but I'm just not seeing growth. I just want more.. I think I'll be finishing after this one, I just don't think I can keep trying with this series.
I liked this one but not quite as much as volume 4. I like that we are starting to get a bit more back story for these characters and learning more about their past.
This is an enjoyable series — when you don’t take it too seriously. My only gripe is that the smut gets boring and predictable with the man always being the aggressor. It gets kinda old, though I know that’s from the cultural aspect.
