Is he playing at being my master, or is he playing me?
Things have gone from bad to far, far worse since I was abducted from Earth and then thrown in the dungeon.
Apparently attempting to assassinate the queen is a no-no around here, even if she is a total psycho.
I need to find a way out. I’m done being a prisoner and a pawn. But to escape I need help, and a terrifying alien warrior is my only hope.
Apex is everything I should fear. Dangerous. Alluring. A warrior forbidden from having a mate of his own.
The only way out of the dungeon is to put my freedom in his hands and pretend to be his slave.
I shouldn’t trust him, but I can’t keep my hands off him. He can’t claim me and be the warrior he was raised to be. The queen wants me tortured and killed.
It might be love, lust, or crazy space dust addling my brain, but I want to be his. How can I make it happen when all the odds are stacked against us?
Take one bad-boy alien, add one feisty heroine tired of playing by other people’s rules and watch the sparks fly in Her Secret Champion, a 70,000 word alien romance!

The heroine:Atlanta - twin sister to Savannah from Her Healing Warrior. Atlanta was also a social media influencer for the sectors on Earth and she disliked posting propaganda for the Government but was forced into it by her parents. The sisters were abducted by aliens together, and while Savii was sold to the Rutharians, Atlanta was placed on a prison planet called Nightmoor.
The Hero:Apex - Apex worked as a specter (Lunarian Spy) and was the best of the lot, though he didn’t always agree with the things his leader Lady Idria did. He knew she had her own interests in mind with the things she did, not the interests of Lunaria. However, she was good at convincing the high council that what she wanted was right for the country. Now Idria plans to become queen of the Rutharians and name herself queen of Lunaria as well. Apex is the one specter working with the warriors from the previous books.
The Story: Atlanta was brought to the prison planet Nightmoor to be a dancer for Queen Leija. Atlanta hated performing for others on Earth and hates the fact that she is doing much of the same on Nightmoor. At some point she rebels and is thrown into the dungeon where Apex finds her. He has come to rescue her.
I really enjoyed the last few books, especially Her Healing Warrior and I couldn’t wait for the story of Apex and Atlanta. This was told in dual points of view with dual narration by Sierra Kline and Gregory Kellen. Sierra Kline has done all the prior books and I enjoy her voice. Gregory Kellen is new and I didn’t really like his voice for Apex who is a deadly spy. I liked the deeper voice of Logan McAllister who did the previous four books. I think it would have worked better for Apex. I also didn’t like the voices Gregory used for the supporting characters Gallix and Ronan. He is one of those narrators who uses different voices that sound like cartoon villains.
Apex has been searching for Atlanta for too long. First out of duty and more recently it was more like an obsession. It has made him feel much more than he is comfortable with, since specters are taught at an early age not to feel. I was a bit disappointed in Atlanta as well, she came across more like a spoiled brat than a strong heroine.
I think mainly because they didn’t show a valid reason why Atlanta tried to kill the queen and chose to stay in the dungeon rather than apologize and eat a bit of crow. If there was more background showing her being abused or something by the queen. Instead it seemed like she just didn’t want to dance for the queen at parties, which seemed a small price to pay for being safe, unlike her sister who was held and repeatedly raped by various Rutharians.
I was also surprised that Apex didn’t seem to be the strong intelligent alpha male that I though he would be. He was really under the thumb of Lady Idria, and admitted to basically always doing what she told him to. Like he was as much a slave as anything. Though he was a master spy and assassin, I had to wonder why he didn’t just kill Idria and be free.
I enjoyed this book, however I would have enjoyed it much more if the FMC, Atlanta, wasn’t so annoying. Twins, Savannah and Atlanta, were abducted and then split up. Savannah’s story is told in “Her Healing Warrior.” This is Atlanta’s story.
For someone who was abducted by ALIENS and sold into sex slavery, she sure has a mouth on her. You’d think she’d be quiet when deciding her next move(s). While I almost didn’t care what happened to her, I hung on for Apex’s sake. Now THERE’S a character I could sink my teeth into. I would love to read a book with his backstory.
And a more shallow critique . . . I absolutely hate when the MC on the cover doesn’t match the book description! To be honest, none of the books in this series have good covers. Lunarians are orange with different colored hair. NONE of the warriors on the covers of these books have orange tinged skin. Apex is orange with dark black hair, with white stripes. Does that sound like a description of the man the cover? I just wish that they’d take cover art more seriously. And who knew that they reuse cover art? Because this same exact picture is on the cover of Captive of the Horde King
Earth has become a world divided by class sectors. Human women have been abducted by aliens without earth knowing anything about it. Breeders are sought out across galaxies when Lunarians are looking to strengthen their numbers due to a decline in female mates. Now the Lunarians have seen exactly how human women have been treated by those who kidnapped them and seek to find them and give them a new home in the hopes they will all find the one. But there is danger not only from those of other planets but within their own walls.
I enjoyed the story and felt for the characters as you can see both sides of the coin. There is action, intrigue, pain, suffering, hope, politics and love to be found among the pages.
When a human is involved they will do anything to make them theirs. However, the chemistry explodes, making them confront there are feelings just waiting to be explored. As their connection simmers dangerously close to the surface, they must decide if it is worth the risks that come with uncovering their true desires.
A quick read to take you from reality for a few hours.
Intriguing storyline with several twists and reveals - Highly recommend story and series!
Written for mature readers only (18+ years old) due to subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some including adult language, adult intimate scenes and violence. This series has an arc that features kidnapping / human trafficking of females to different alien races for the purpose of “breeding”.
While this could be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend it be read in series order for maximum reader satisfaction and to prevent spoilers due to reoccurring characters and an overall storyline arc.
This series continues to build on the story universe and has strong characters and good twists periodically. It takes a lot for authors to come up with a twist that I don’t see coming ahead of time, but this one has had a few already throughout the series, which has never really happened to me. Maybe I am just having an off week, but I think the credit goes to Roxie Ray.
Here is a high level overview of how the story begins:
Atlanta has been kidnapped from Earth, made to perform for Queen Leila on Nightmoor (a prison planet) and separated from her twin. With the exception of the kidnapping, it seems to mirror what has happened for her entire life and she had refused to do it any more. This is why she ends up in a prison cell, being taunted by Queen Leila, after Atlanta failed to kill her when she tried.
Since then the Queen has been down frequently, encouraging her paramours to make fun and ridicule her. Atlanta doesn’t care and figures she is going to get more of the same when the best looking “male” stepped from the shadows, even if he was clearly alien with orange skin. Then he surprised her by not going along with the Queen ... what was his game?
Apex was a specter, aka a spy, and had been his entire life after his mother died and he was raised and trained by the high house now under the control of Lady Idria. After he completed his training, he drank the poison that changed his eye color to black, so they no longer mirrored his emotions.
Apex was cold, thoughtful and never acted without considering all angles and waiting for the right opportunity to turn it to his or Lady Idria’s benefit. He had been placed on Nightmoor to act as the liaison for Lady Idria, to gain the trust / fear and enact her plan, fortunately that was to protect and endure himself with the perfect pink-haired human that did every thing she could to antagonize the Queen.
Before it is too late, can he get Atlanta to understand how dangerous her actions to escape and antagonize the Queen are before the Queen injures or kills her? Could he get Atlanta to trust him so that he could protect her from herself and others?
Normally, I love Roxie Ray’s books; however, this book fell short of the mark. For the most part, the story takes place on the prison planet of Nightmoor. Every person on the planet has been sentenced to this prison for various infractions, except for the male protagonist, Apex, and the female protagonist, Atlanta. Queen Lieja presides over the constant rounds of feasting and parties, which is about all there is to do for most of the prisoners.
Then there are those prisoners like Atlanta, who is currently being held in a dungeon in an extremely small cell. Her crime? She tried to kill Queen Lieja and failed. Atlanta is from Earth and has been a dancer all her life, along with her twin sister, Savannah. Both were kidnapped from Earth and got separated, with Atlanta being taken to Nightmoor. She was wearing a heavy metal collar that was bolted to the wall and was trying to figure out a way to escape the dungeon, not realizing that even if she were able to escape, there’s nowhere to escape to.
The male protagonist is Apex, who is a Lunarian spector. As an orphan, he was turned over to Lady Idria for training and at age sixteen he drank Lady Idria’s poison, which is why his eyes are always black. He is cold, calculating and all but emotionless, unlike the typical Lunarian with eyes that changed colors and a passionate, fiery, fierce and headstrong disposition. However, all that training seems to have gone out the window when it comes to Atlanta.
I liked the “relatively” slower development of the romance between Apex and Atlanta. The world building was good and the character development was good, with the exception of Atlanta. She was “cursed” with a sassy mouth and absolutely no common sense. It was almost like a chihuahua barking at a German shepherd that was trained to take little dogs like her apart. And unfortunately, that trait never changed throughout the entire book.
The plot itself was somewhat convoluted and didn’t really make much sense. There were better ways to accomplish what eventually took place. All told, this was definitely not the best Roxie Ray book I’ve ever read.

Apex is a Lunarian warrior who is terrifying and is not permitted to take a mate. Atlanta Tremain was abducted from Earth, taken to Nightmoor, the prison planet, and then thrown in a tiny cell in the dungeon. She was originally kidnapped to entertain the guests as a dancer, but when she attacked the queen with a steak knife, that’s when the dungeon became her home. She was working on her escape, had already used a rock over and over to break the chain from the wall, and was about to jam the rock in the cell door lock.
A throat-clearing and Apex stepping forward stopped her. He told her the lock would release a deadly charge if she tampered with it. He suggested she just grovel a bit to the queen, but she told him her pride and honor were all she had left. She could never bow down and grovel. She would continue to fight. Since she refused to change her mind, he offered to help her – for a price. To try to get out of the dungeon and avoid the fate the psycho Queen Lieja has planned in this terribly political and cruel world, she will have to negotiate with Apex. But all he demanded was a kiss – on her hand – and told her she would be out of her cell the next day. In the morning, Apex would barter for Atlanta’s freedom.
She wondered what she can do to make him actually want her enough to be willing to save her. And what was a specter, that odd name he kept calling himself?
This was a good book with a variety of characters and a good story line. Apex is a mystery and just trying to figure him out will keep the reader thoroughly drawn into the story. With the reader not fully knowing what was going on either, the tension kept things interesting. Atlanta was a strong, feisty woman who didn’t back down and didn’t quit. She was a good match for the specter and immediately drew him to her. Grab your copy and try to put all the puzzle pieces together!
Apex had his missions, this one on Nightmoor where he was sent to acquire contact and rescue Atlanta from there for Savannah, Atlanta's twin sister, under his Queen's orders but he had his plans in place along with two Lunarian warriors. He was forced to play the gilded prisoners' games and tried to mold Atlanta into his plans in ways that would save herself in the end. In the end there are mamy happy endings and this does leave with a HEA. I give this 5 cups of scalding java, ☕☕☕☕☕, as this was hard to put down even with my kids interrupting me every 5-10 minutes, haha.
Her Secret Champion is Book 5 in a series called Lunarian Warriors. This is a well-written, fast-paced and standalone book that will keep you engaged from start to finish. These characters are well-crafted with growth throughout the story. There is action, adventure, drama, danger, twist/turns, some humor, family, pain, betrayal, possessiveness, guilt, abandonment, frustration, romance, passion/lust and love

I was happy that Apex finally got his story. Though there were times when i doubted his loyalty to Atlanta, everything worked out for the best. The story itself was a good, quick read. It mostly takes place on a prison planet, but dont let those words fool you. It's a prison palace (who ever heard of such a thing). Idria, Idria, Idria she had it coming, that's all I have to say about that. Savannah and Atlanta were able to reunite (did you have any doubts) and live with their hunky feline-like mates.
I’ve enjoyed the preceding books before this one, until this one. Another reviewer stated this best “She was “cursed” with a sassy mouth and absolutely no common sense. It was almost like a chihuahua barking at a German shepherd that was trained to take little dogs like her apart. And unfortunately, that trait never changed throughout the entire book.” OMG, I skipped the last 20% of the book just because I couldn’t stand the FMC’s lack of brain. Apex deserved better!
There seems to be a fascination with the word slaves or slavery. It is confusing and a bit redundant. Truly takes from the storyline and sours the romance factor. Book 4 of the series was dark. This segment, book 5, was just too much negativity for a romance genre. Am thinking the Kindle recommendations are not in sync with my preferences. Am not planning to continue the series because torture, bondage, insensitive verbiage is just not my type of entertainment.
So. I debated not even reading this one. All the previous books were the exact same story, with different names . Girl is abducted and abused, Lunarians save them. Whoever finds her first simply wants to help her, clearly not seduce her. They struggle with wanting her when she is vulnerable. They all amuse themselves to the thought of her. Then they do seduce, fall in love, some drama happens, and they are pregnant. I am so glad I read this, though. Apex was clear from the start. He knew what he wanted, and how to get there. I enjoyed it very much.
I liked this story and how it kept me guessing to the end what side Apex was on what his ultimate plan was. Atlanta was a fun character as she was so feisty. Their interactions were amusing and hot at times. The other characters in the book were also entertaining. Kept me reading to the end to see what would happen next and how much trouble Atlanta would find herself in. Just a fun alien meets human abduction story.
The fifth book in the Lunarian Warriors series a well written story that kept me turning pages. This is Apex and Atlanta’s story there is kidnapping, suspense, drama, danger, and romance. I want to read the next book and find out what happens with. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I really enjoyed this book. Apex has intrigued me since he was first introduced. He is dark and dangerous. Atlanta while likeable was a bit too impulsive to the point of me rolling my eyes. However she did come around. There was action and intrigue and double crossing which makes for a great story. Looking forward to the next book and where the story goes now.
I cannot tell you how much I love this series, but if you read this book you will get the idea. I love that the authors women are never ditzy but strong women with sharp minds and that the men are hot dangerous demanding and alphas. If you are looking for something to get your motor running this is it.

Another great story by Roxie Ray. I was happy to read about Apex and Atlanta. She was a sassy spit fire regardless of the situation she was placed in. Apex need Atlanta in his life to see that life had so much more to offer. I can't wait to read the next story in this series.

The book was exciting from start to finish. It has everything you want in a romance about aliens with enough action, drama, mistrust, love, and steamy hot sexy scenes that sizzle but not over the top with awesome characters? Waiting anxiously for the next book in the series and definitely a must buy.
Absolutely loved the characters and emotional rollercoaster ride they provide d. Sexy scenes and interesting characters who had me hooked right away. Plot twist was different from other storylines I've read. Highly enjoyed it. Highly recommend it!!!
I love this series. The males are all so strong, intelligent, loyal & loving. The females are all charismatic, stubborn & fearless. The characters in this book are perfect. He is quiet, sneaky, & deadly. She is spunky, stubborn & loud. Their romance is hot & exciting.
I’ve been loving these books, until now. It was a DNF. The h was so irritating, I had no pity for her as a slave and had a thought a good whipping might snap some sense into that stupid brain. Talk about being your own worst enemy and it’s a shame, I was looking forward to a story with this H. I may try the next one because I was enjoying them, not sure.
This was a great read! I love how Apex was always one step ahead of everyone, including the reader. I felt the angst and frustration from Atlanta. She has no idea he is there to rescue her. I really enjoyed their relationship and I was happy Apex was able to find happiness in the ugly start he had to life.
This is a great sci-fi romance! I really liked it! It has lots of danger and drama, with some scary characters and a heroine wondering how she got into this whole mess.
