The great things about boxed sets is being able to catch a book you may have missed and binge read three in a row. I missed out on Shot in the Tart when it first came out so finally reading it gave me the background on what happened to Chelsea's parents.

Shot in the Tart - When Chelsea's love interest Germany finds himself a person of interest, it is personal. As the clues unravel, she finds that it is more personal that she ever expected when the death of her parents all those years ago comes back to haunt her. Will the truth finally be revealed

Peaches and Scream - After reading quite a few cozies where the ending is too predictable, most will never see it coming with Thomas' latest making this a juicy mystery. Ironic when the victim and the storyline revolves around tarot card readers. With a long list of suspects to weed through from family to fellow tarot card readers in their community, even reaching into the mental illness world,, Chelsea, Miss May and Teeny will find life is not a peach for at least one or more of them.

Dread and Butter - Carbs already get a bad rap so when it literally kills the Deputy Mayor, Chelsea, Teeny, and Miss May is on the case even before it has been declared a murder. Between claims of embezzlement, the current mayor's rush to leave town after clearing out her storage locker in disguise and a possible affair, they try to figure out if the motive is for love or money. Leaving off with a cliffhanger, will have you anxiously waiting for the next installment.

This is the third boxset of the Apple Orchard Cozy Mystery series and covers books 7-9, Shot Through the Tart; Peaches and Scream; and Dread and Butter. The main characters in the books are Chelsea Thomas, her aunt Miss May who owns and runs the Apple Orchard farm and bakes lots of pies, and their friend Teeny who owns and runs one of the most popular restaurants in town called Grandma’s. The three of them are like an amateur detective group, as they seem to always end up solving all the murders that keep happening in the small town of Pine Grove. The police seem to be very inept at solving any crimes, especially murders, usually saying they were suicides or just accidents, until the thro get involved!

In the first book Miss May and Chelsea are in the audience during a play, when one of the lead actors is shot dead, but everyone thinks it is part of the show, until he doesn’t get back up to take a bow! Whoever killed the actor thought they had done a good of covering up what they did, but with these two on the scene, they won’t get away with it for long! Germany Turtle, Chelsea’s boyfriend is the director of the play, The Phantom of the Opera and was having problems with the cast, even before the first night. There are a number of main suspects, but it could have been almost anyone that was there that night. As usual, the trio approach suspects with a pie, cookies or in this case a tart, in hand, which lets them know they are under suspicion. Add in some suspicious big men in black rummaging about in suspect’s houses, supposedly from the firm Junk Boys, leads to some dumper diving by Chelsea. Danger is ever present and the killer will make a personal attack on the trio. Chelsea will even find a link to her parent’s death, but maybe not in time to get the evidence!

The second book in the boxset has a glut of peaches back in season at the orchard and so Miss May arranges to have a get together in the barn on the farm, throwing an everything Peach Party. Everyone from Pine Grove comes for the party where the trio offer peach pies, peach drinks and everything goes well, until a dead body turns up in the locked bakeshop later that night. The bakeshop is locked from the inside and only Miss May, Chelsea and the farm hand KP have keys to the shop, but Chelsea can’t find hers! Miss May’s and KP’s keys are still in their possession. Now Chelsea seems to be the obvious suspect for the murder of Beth, the tarot reader, who accused Big Jim and Chelsea of wanting to kill her the previous evening! Germany has gone back to Africa to study his lions, leaving Chelsea back in the reach of the charms of Detective Wayne Hudson. Finding out who Beth was will help lead to her killer, but another murder happens before the trio can solve the first case.

The third book in the set sees a murder victim, Deputy Mayor Matt, face down on the floor of his home with a mouth stuffed full of bread. And that’s not just any sort of bread, but a fancy bread that isn’t made by anyone in Pine Grove. An election for Mayor was to be held shortly and the previous night’s election speeches got very contentious and tempers were frayed. The trial of breadcrumbs lead the trio to a fancy hotel outside town, but their suspects are all running scared and one even ends up in jail, believing it will be a safer place than being on the outside. Shame that isn’t true, not with the Pine Grove police department’s record at solving any type of crime, especially murders! The trio had been hired to investigate a possible case of money laundering by the Deputy Mayor, but with him ending up dead and the Mayor herself supposed to be retiring and attempting to leave town, matters are more confusing than usual.

A great trio of books with multiple murders in the small town, always managing to be solved by the amateurs sleuthing team of Miss May, Chelsea and Teeny. None of the cases are ever straightforward and the approach of any of the trio with a baked good of some kind, is beginning to be known as a sign that they believe you are a suspect and they are there to question you! The police force are useless, but at least Detective Wayne does give some aid to the women occasionally, when he isn’t being held back from investigating by his chief, or trying to avoid arresting Chelsea whenever she is sent to break in somewhere, being the most agile of the trio! Never mind the confusing attraction between Chelsea and Wayne, but with the guilt of the long distance relationship with Germany.

Easy to read mysteries that will leave you guessing who the killer is in each and every one, with lots of suspects, twists, surprises and red herrings left behind. Getting to read them all in a boxset allows you to get a real chunk of action with the trio and their need to defend the dead of Pine Grove and to always find justice for them. An odd mix of characters, with lots of food being discussed, eaten and baked in every episode. Sometimes it seems the food is a major part of the stories and it certainly plays a huge part in every storyline. I love reading the books in this series and I can’t wait to catch up with the trio to see what will happening next. I received an ARC copy of this boxset from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the books above.

Grrrreat series!

Dread & Butter
Uh, oh…another fiasco is at hand!
It’s the tail end of September and Miss May, Teeny, and Chelsea did not have much of a “breather” from their summer sleuthing before yet another crime is committed. It begins with a potential embezzler that unfortunately shifts dramatically to a murder with a message. These intrepid ladies are quite the combo with complementary skill sets. Each of them has their own unique style of off-beat humor, which actually mirrors their distinctive looks. An easy read, plus the descriptions of culinary delights is simply yummy! I’d love to sample the various eateries in Pine Grove as long as murder takes a hiatus!

Peaches & Scream
Aptly named, Peaches and Scream is exactly what happens!
Another awesome installment in the series! Our cast of characters return in the sometimes gently bossy Miss May, the intrepid Chelsea, and the aptly named Teeny. We enter the scene at a Peach Party celebration with yummy food and drink, many townspeople, and general camaraderie. Unfortunately, there is an altercation between two folks and one of them is later discovered dead in Chelsea’s locked up bakeshop. It is a murder with Miss May and Chelsea in the thick of it. Teeny lends her particular expertise as the trio work to figure out this whodunit and the unfortunate next one. A fun easy read from this imaginative author duo!

Shot Through The Tart
The stage is literally set with a shot!
A murder in front of a captive audience is just the latest caper that the intrepid trio become involved in! However, this becomes more personal for Chelsea on more than one level. The ladies are still as zany as ever as they play “hopscotch” trying to solve this whodunit. An enjoyable cozy read, with some twisty turns…just enough to keep you guessing!

Shot Through the Tart
The ladies are deep in another murder investigation of two victims while also uncovering information that Chelsea's parents who may have been murdered too. They definitely have their hands full this time with no lack of suspects.

There are some errors with words misspelled or left out but they were so minimal that I didn't let them deter me from reading the story to find out who the culprit it. Some of the names seem silly but they add to the charm of this small town and its inhabitants.

All in all it is a pleasure to read because the violence is minimal and the characters are fun and colorful.

I will be reading the next book in the series to see what the girls get into next.

Peaches and Scream

Miss May, Teeny, and Chelsea scramble to find the murderer of two mentally unbalanced women putting their lives on the line during their investigations.

The tension and suspense mount as the trio try to figure out how and who got in the bake shop and committed the murder.

Eventually everything ends up just peachy with peach dishes galore for everyone!

I really enjoyed reading this and looking forward to the next book in the series. Thank you for a great plot and interesting characters.

Dread and Butter

This book finds Chelsea missing boyfriend Germany but attracted to Detective Wayne while Teeny has come up with best seller banana pancakes with her own spin on the dish and Miss May tries to create a balance between the two ladies.

They are up to their necks again investigating who the killer is in the latest murder in town but before they solve this one, there is another murder keeping them on their toes. There are plenty of suspects but their investigation doesn’t help uncover the culprit until a security camera points out who the visitors were to the second victim.

The three ladies go back and forth with their clues and suspicions on the identity of the killer making me which of the suspects did it. They eventually solve the crime again much to the shame of the local police.

The story ends with a cliffhanger as Steve digs up a hole with a dead body for Chelsea to see. I’ll be getting the next book to find out who the victim is.

Pine Grove is a small town, where people share secrets like apple pie, so there’s always a new mystery to solve. These cozies are suspenseful nail-biters but are still full of laughter and love. The titles in this set are: Shot Through the Tart (#7), Peaches and Scream (#8), and Dread and Butter (#9). Below is a review of one of them to give you an idea of what you’ll find in this box set.

*** Reviewing “SHOT THROUGH THE TART (#7)” ***
Despite the rain and cold, Chelsea Thomas was happy as she walked to her favorite restaurant to meet her boyfriend, Germany Turtle, whom she described in the most accurate way possible: “On a scale of one to weird, he was an eleven.” (That was my favorite line!)

As they ate their sandwiches, Germany was distracted. Chelsea asked him about what was bothering him. He had been working as director of the new play at the community theater, so she asked whether something had happened during rehearsal. Finally he told her that Adam, despite his experience, didn’t know his lines, wasn’t being professional, despite the first show happening the next evening. Their argument had even escalated to yelling at each other!

As Chelsea convinced him to come back to the farmhouse for cookies and to relax a little, another cast member ran in demanding to talk to Germany about replacing Adam due to his obvious lack of acting skill. Master Skinner, a sensei who owned the local dojo in town, was Adam’s understudy and threatened Germany to let him have the lead part or he “would regret it”!

Unfortunately, the regret came true! A murder was committed right on theater stage in plain sight with probably the entire town watching in the audience! It will take Chelsea, Miss May, and Teeny to track down the murderer. Because Adam Smith wasn't well liked, there are many suspects to make solving this one even more difficult. And there is a side issue involving the death of Chelsea’s parents to “muddy the waters”! It’s going to take some special teamwork to solve this one! Grab your copy and follow the clues!

The boxed set collects books 7-9 of this cozy mystery series. These are clean cozy mysteries filled with plenty of humor and all the little elements you would expect from this genre. If you like small towns, interesting characters and the occasional witty banter, these should suite you fine.

The stories are well written with easy to follow plots, but that does not mean easy to solve mysteries. There are enough twists and turns during the investigations to keep the reader guessing until the end. The characters are also fun and well developed as is the setting. Overall this collection makes for plenty of relaxing entertainment.

Highly recommended.

The writing team of Chelsea Thomas knows how to write a good cozy mystery. The characters are fun and believable. The suspense builds and winds around. Although you may have a suspect in mind as you read, the real culprit is often a suprise. Chelsea is particulary enjoyable as as a character. She's smart and observant, but like many of us, she gets a bit toungetied when needing to come up with a good excuse for snooping which often results in babbling. Every person we've met so far in this series is a believable character and interesting. Why did Miss May cease being an attorney? Will the relationship with G. grow stronger? What will happen with the police Chief? How about Dective Hudson? Will we see and hear more about the Ice cream lady? What about Teeny and the town mechanic? These are all things I hope to discover as the series progresses. I'm eagerly await ing the next adventure. If you like reading y.our cozy series in order, these book sets are a real bargain. Another plus is that they are full novels, not just novellas. I might even watch television again if these stories were made into a series. I highly recommend this series.

Chelsea Thomas has done it again! This box set is a delightful read following Chelsea, Miss May and Teeny, amateur sleuths, as they investigate murders in Pine Grove. In Shot Through the Tart, Chelsea and Miss May are in the audience.when an actor is murdered on stage during his performance. Their search for justice is filled with action, hilarity, a little romance, and more than a few twists. In Peaches and Scream, a body turns up in the bake shop at the orchard. Chelsea and Miss May are considered suspects, so the search is on to find the real killer. It will keep you guessing to the end! In Dread and Butter, one of the mayoral candidates in Pine Grove is found murdered with his mouth stuffed full of bread. Chelsea, Miss May and Teeny frantically search for the killer before an innocent person is charged. These books are fantastic and you won’t want to put them down until you’re finished!

Once again our intrepid trio are out to solve a mystery. You never know what kind of trouble comes looking for our heroines, but you can be assured that you will chuckle and laugh your way right through to the end. This is definitely a must read for an enjoyable and humorous afternoon. This is a clean, cozy mystery. No foul language or graphic sex. To understand the backstory, it's best to read them from the start, however it book can be read as a stand-alone.

Shot Through the Tart
Germany Turtle is directing the local theatre group’s latest production. He didn’t bargain on a bitter relationship between the leading man and his understudy. Germany also didn’t imagine he would be a prime suspect in a murder.
The entire town was in the audience when a shot rang out during the final scene. It was so realistic, as was the actor’s fall to the stage. When it became apparent that the man was dead, the sleuthing team of Chelsea, Miss May and Teeny begin searching for clues. Unfortunately for Chelsea, the investigation leads to information she never thought she’d learn.
This is the seventh book in the apple orchard cozy series. I look forward to each new book and this was no exception. My favorite characters are back and still better at catching the killer than the police chief and her detectives. The author does a fabulous job at introducing new characters and weaving in many that we’ve met in the past. The story is engaging and keeps you wanting more.

Peaches and Scream
Chelsea and her aunt, Miss Mae, are hosting a party to celebrate the first harvest of peaches on their farm. The entire town has shown up to the orchard for the food and fun. Unfortunately the evening ends in an argument between two of the locals and one accusing the other of murderous intentions.

After the clean-up Chelsea struggles to sleep. She decides to engage in some baking therapy and heads to the kitchen. When she finds herself low on flour she walks over to the bakeshop. After turning on the lights Chelsea makes a horrible discovery.

I continue to enjoy this series. The characters are a bit quirky and the action often witty. The action moves at a steady pace. Chelsea, Miss Mae and Teeny often find themselves in the position of pushing suspects a bit too far, or entering places illegally. I’m not sure how well this book would be received by someone who has not read the entire series.

Dread and Butter

After a nasty mayoral debate with his opponent, Deputy Mayor Matt is found dead in his home. The police determine the death to be accidental and move on. Chelsea, Aunt May and Teeny aren’t so sure and keep digging. Within days of Matt’s death his stepbrother is arrested for murder. When the safety of the police station is compromised the police begin to investigate in earnest. This case takes the ladies all over the county in search of a murderer.

This is the 9th book in the Apple Orchard Cozy Mystery series. I enjoy this series very much. The characters are a bit quirky. The setting is a small town in New York in late summer. This story moves at a steady pace and ends in a bit of a cliffhanger. I am looking forward to seeing where this story goes next. I recommend this book and the series.

Chelsea Thomas delivers the baked goods.

Shot Through the Tart: Spend a day reading about Pine Grove, NY in late March when there is "a crime against Pine Grove" and *the power of prayer* is demonstrated. I beta-read this one and it is fantastic.

Peaches and Scream: Spend a day with this family-friendly "operatic tragedy" (according to Teeny) when another body is found at Miss May's Thomas Family Fruit and Fir Farm in Pine Grove, NY after the Peach Party. Chelsea Thomas trips over her own feet a LOT and, like all good operas, there are laughs.

Dread and Butter: Set aside a day for this family-friendly account of the mayoral race in Pine Grove, New York, which opens with the Mayoral Debate on the last Friday in September, of course, with Chelsea, Miss May, and Teeny in attendance.

Chelsea's boyfriend is the prime suspect, so Aunt May, Chelsea and Teeny really need to get this solved fast! I love this box set! Twists, turns and humor evolve while they investigate.

Peaches and Scream
I received this book for free as an arc reader. I really enjoyed this book, it has twists and turns, and you don't have it figured out until the end. I enjoy following Miss May, Chelsea and Teeny, they are always fun, humorous and keep it real. I can't wait to read the next book to see what they uncover next.

Dread and Butter
I received this book as an arc reader. I love this series, it's full of suspense, twists, turns, laughs, talk of food, baking and of course, solving the newest murder in their little town! Miss May, Chelsea and Teeny will not give up until they follow every lead, and get the correct suspect in jail for this latest murder. This time the Deputy Mayor has been murdered, even though he seems to be a jerk, they are on the case, to get the person who did this put in jail.

Book 7 - Shot through the tart

Miss May and Chelsea get to go to a play but it doesn't turn out as they thought. One of the actors is killed. Everyone
thought that it was part of the play but the actor never got up to take a bow. Now it appears that something or
someone from Chelsea's past is out to get her.

Book 8 - Peaches and scream

It's peach season again and Miss May throws another party to celebrate. The whole town shows up to snack on their
favorite peach treats and drink their favorite peach drinks. Sadly the party is interrupted by a dead body in
the bakeshop. One big problem, only Miss May and Chelsea have keys to the building. Now they have to solve this
murder to keep Chelsea out of jail

Book 9 - Dread and butter

One of Chelsea's favorite foods is bread but she tries to not eat too much of it due to the carbs. Now, however, someone is using her favorite food as a murder weapon and she needs to solve the crime to keep out of jail.

Teeny’s hushpuppies sound so good.
My sister read the first collection by Ms. Thomas and loved the books so when I say this group I knew I had to pick it up. I love well-done cozies and Ms. Thomas delivers in this collection. The characters blend so well together and the mysteries will keep you on the edge of your seat. The three books Shot Through The Tart, Peaches and Screams, and Dead and Butter were splendid. It is so hard to choose my favorite of the three but Peaches and Scream was delightful Germany and Wayne rather interesting ending to the tale. Good books I highly recommend this collection in fact all the books that I have read from this series were awesome. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
