Addison and Layla have packed up and gone to Europe for a well-earned end-of-year break. While Layla is busy painting on an organised art tour, Addison takes the time to relax and enjoy the local scenery. And, of course, the patisseries.
But it’s not all breathtaking views and baked delights.
An isolated guest house in a picturesque Tuscan ghost town presents many opportunities for the artists to paint.
It’s also a good place to commit murder.
Is there a killer among the touring artists? What are the elderly caretakers of the guest house hiding? And what does it all have to do with an international crime syndicate?
Addison and Layla may be in over their heads as they team up with Interpol and the local carabinieri to catch the killer and get home to Australia in time for Christmas.
The Getaway Bay cozy mysteries have everything you love – suspense to keep you guessing, twists you don’t see coming, and characters you want to have a cup of tea with – plus an added dose of Aussie flavour.
Getaway Bay: Come for the murder, stay for the cake!
Love this series but just as I was settling in to thinking the author was going for the whole alphabet she has decided to have a rest and go back to her other writings. I can't really complain because I like her other books too, but I hope she does come back to Addison and friends.
Even when she goes overseas on holiday Addison cannot keep away from murders and dead bodies. In this book she teams up with an Interpol agent to discover why a tour guide has been stabbed to death in a hotel kitchen. Many other illegalities are involve such as being in possession of marijuana and making fake copies of famous paintings. Addison only gets involved in the better class of murder.
All good fun, nicely written and easy to read. Highly recommended!
In this episode Addison and Layla are away from Getaway Bay, taking an art tour in Europe. As the artist in the family, Layla is enjoying all the painting while Addison is enjoying the scenery and, of course, the food.
For the final step of the tour before they return home just in time for Christmas, they are staying in an isolated guest house in a ghost town in a beautiful part of Italy. As they are getting ready for bed on the first night of their stay they hear a scream from the kitchen and rush down to discover their tour leader lying on the floor with a knife embedded in his heart. It seems Addison is not going to get a holiday away from investigating murders after all.
Instead of the Getaway Bay police, Addison finds herself helping an undercover officer investigating their group for another crime. With no internet or mobile phone reception and the eagle eye of the local police on them, they must resort to old fashioned methods of detection.
This was another fun episode in this well written and enjoyable series of short, quick reads. I can't wait to see what's next for Addison back in Getaway Bay.
Addison and Layla were in the last days of their art tour and had arrived with the tour group to a delightful B&B in the small Tuscan town of Isola Santa, run by an elderly couple, Riccardo and Sofia. Tour guide, Lucien was a friendly and likeable guy while Hugo, Diego, Max, Madeline and Camille made up the rest of the group. Some were easier to know than others, but Addison and Layla had enjoyed the tour, though looking forward to going home to Getaway Bay on Queensland’s coast in a few days.
Getting ready for bed on the first night was interrupted by a shrill scream, which brought everyone from their rooms. The discovery of who was screaming, and why, was a terrible shock to them all. What was happening? Was Addison once again mixed up in nefarious doings? And would they make it home by Christmas?
The Holiday Homicide is the 8th in the Getaway Bay Cozy Mystery series by Aussie author Grace York, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Out of their comfort zones, Addison and Layla still managed to have trouble find them, even while in Europe on an end of year holiday. Fabulous! I hope #9 isn’t TOO far away, although I’m looking forward to the author’s other persona’s title in a few months 😊 Highly recommended.
The Holiday Homicide is book eight in the Getaway Bay series by Grace York. Addison and Layla organised a European break so that Layla could be involved in an art tour and Addison could relax and enjoy the food. However, in a beautiful Tuscan ghost town, they became involved in a murder investigation to help local law enforcement. The readers will continue to follow Addison and Layla to discover what happens.
The Holiday Homicide is a lovely cozy mystery by Grace York and a lovely addition to the excellent Getaway Bay series. I enjoyed how Grace York described Italy's beautiful area called Tuscan. I could engage with the story or characters of this book quickly. I love Grace York's portrayal of her characters and their interaction with each other. The Holiday Homicide is well-written and researched by Grace York. I like Grace York's description of the settings of The Holiday Homicide, which allowed me to imagine being part of the book's plot.
The readers of The Holiday Homicide will learn about running an art tour in Italy to ensure a learning experience for participants. The readers of The Holiday Homicide will understand the importance of Marijuana in relieving terminally ill patients.
