Anne Frank: Life in Hiding

Rate this book
From July 1942 until August 1944, a young girl named Anne Frank kept a diary. Keeping a diary isn't unusual. Lots of girls do. But Anne's diary was unique. It chronicled the two years she and her family spent hiding from the Germans who were determined to annihilate all the Jews in Europe. In this sensitive and thoughtful introduction to the Holocaust and to the life of one of its best known victims, acclaimed author Johanna Hurwitz deftly evokes the background of World War II while capturing the unforgettable spirit and tragedy of Anne's life.

I think this is a great simple introduction for children, I haven't realised there where older junior biographies available, (I'm already well versed with the more modern current ones, such as "little people big dreams") so I will be keeping an eye out for these. I appreciated the illustrations and felt they where done perfectly so as not to frighten children but to show an important part of history. Well done.

Anyone who has read and loved Anne’s diary will fall for this book. It’s written beautifully as if looking on the outside of what her story is. Everything moved at a great pace and no details were skipped.

5-6; biography; WARNING: Grab the tissues! This book gives you one of the more in-depth perspectives of what it was like to live and take part in (as a Jew) in the holocaust. This book is recommended for an older audience due to its content, but very Informative of the horrors of the holocaust!

This book was so beautiful; it was short, but beautiful. It was kind of emotional but mostly went into depth of pre-concentration for Anne frank and her family members. Would love to read Anne’s diary and the full autobiography of her. 10/10 WOULD RECOMMEND!!!!!!

The biography, "Anne Frank: Life in Hiding" written by Johanna Hurwitz and illustrated by Vera Rosenberry, helped me as a reader because it was inspiring above all else. It gave me insight into important dates that I had previously forgotten, and reminded me to remain positive, even on the bad days. It could always be worse, and I should always remember to count my blessings.

The book will help me as a future teacher because it is very interesting, especially to be a biography, which many students do not always pick as their first book choice. It is a shorter chapter book, which makes it an easier choice for students who don't particularly care for true stories. It is also a twist on Anne Frank's famous diary. I could easily use this book as part of a history lesson within my literature lesson, as well as, have students create a time line with the important dates listed on pages 41-51. This would be a fun, and engaging way to integrate different subjects into reading curriculum in my classroom. It will also remind students of historical events that should never be forgotten. I liked reading this book because it was told in story form. I also liked the important dates timeline in the back of the book.

Although the storyline was interesting, I happen to feel that this biography was written a bit dryly. I think the facts, amazing as they are, could've been presented in a much more compelling way.

Quick read, wish there was a little more meat to it but good for a preteen especially if you don't want them reading too in-depth into the horror of the Holocaust

L’histoire d’Anne Franck très connu reste tout de même très émouvante, je recommande ce livre à ceux qui préfère les récits au lettres.

This book is an amazing book to read because in order to survive the Holocaust, you had to hide, try to escape, or be a German. In the case, Anne Frank went into hiding. This book takes you through the journey of what hiding was like in the Holocaust. Anne Frank and her family hid in a secret annex with another family and a dentist. She hid in there for more than two years. If you like reading about the Holocaust and Anne Frank, this book is for you.

This book is about a young girl who lived in the times of World War II. Her name was Anne Frank and she loved to play tennis, swim, and she enjoyed being with her friends in school and couldn’t resist chattering during class. But, tragically, Anne was growing up in a time when all European Jews lived in grave danger. When Dutch Jews were forced to leave their homes, Anne and her family found a hiding place in an annex located in the back of a building that her father's business ran out from. With the help of some of their friends, they were able to remain in hiding for years. During these years in hiding, Anne kept a diary in which she described the two years of their secret life. After the war ended, the diary was found and then later published by her father, Otto Frank. Her innocent account of the horrors of war was widely read, and it touched readers all over the world. This biography tells about Anne’s family and their lives before the Second World War, the Nazi persecution of Jews, and Anne’s years in hiding.

This is a story that all students in elementary school should know about because it is a part of history from the views of a child who lived through the trauma. Students can connect with her because she was very much like they are, she liked to be with her friends and enjoyed the same things that they do today. I would use this book as a required reading for a 6th grade classroom in Language Arts class and then have activities centered around the book. It could be that they have to read a chapter a day and then be prepared to discuss the chapters the next day in an ask and answer way (interactive) and maybe have creative writing opportunities.

I really enjoyed this book, and feel like it gave a more in-depth look into the life of Anne Frank as we know, and her time spent hiding form the Nazis in World War II. Much longer than your standard picture or informational book, this multi-chapter book really brings to life all of the events that happened to Anne and her family, and portrays it in a way that may be more interesting for older kids, as opposed to a short picture book.

Very well-written and informational, I would recommend this book to anyone, but especially older kids, who are interested in learning about Anne Frank's story.

This biography is on Anne Frank and her famous diary, telling the story of her hiding from the Germans. This is told from 1942 to 1944 during the Holocaust. This is a biography based on it's retelling of Anne's life and experience. This book can be an addition to learning about the Holocaust and allow the students to go more in depth, reading about the personal life and events that Anne Frank went through.

With a reminder the other day that Anne's diary turned 70 years old on June 12th, I re-read this book to share the highlights (and low points) of Anne Frank's life with my students. The text is easy to understand, and while it's not as detailed and eloquently written as Anne's actual diary, it does give young people an overview of Anne Frank, her family, and their fate.

This was another book I read when I was still obsessed with the World War II era. It's a basic recounting of Anne's life and her family. Again the events and facts are laid out in an easy to understand manner that is suitable for younger children.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in reading about Anne Frank but are maybe not ready for her full diary.

Cate had so much to say about this book ("The Nazis are just stupid, Mom") while we were reading it that I think it will be a great Book Club discussion. I really like these children's biographies - they really get to the heart of the matter.

C'est une bonne initiation à l'immersion de la guerre 39-45. J'aurais voulu un peu plus de documentation cependant je prendrai sûrement le temps un jour de lire le vrai journal d'Anne Frank.
