still sad about Mika and still annoyed at Yuu

The series is one of those that gets better as it continues but recently it's starting to hit a few bumps. I'm growing exhausted with the repetitive conversations regarding Guren Ichinose wanting to save the world and fix his wrongs. Actually I'm just getting tired of hearing about this character in general. The man could fart and the cast is awed by his excellence. Speaking in Hagrid's voice, "You're a Gary Stu, Guren."
Some character arcs keep getting rehashed but the author is throwing some wrenches in their arcs to make things compelling. Mika's arc has improved significantly. There was a period where his entire characterization was mentioning how he wants to save Yuu. It was endearing to see his adoration and love for Yuu but when that's the entirety of his conversations with other characters it gets grating. His transformation into a demon thing is something to look forward to and I cannot wait for his eventual reunion with his "dad." Also, someone give Shinoa a hug. Everyone is all worried about freaking Yuu and no one bats an eye that Shinoa died and was possessed. Hogswash!
The manga is entering into it's final arc and I cannot wait to see how they save the world...hopefully. Mahiru- even though you're a problematic character- I absolutely adore you and consider you best girl. She won't get resurrected in my opinion (that's the tragedy of her character) but I hope she finally can rest in peace after being used and abused her entire life. Yuu has grown as a character and I hope he can break his own cycle of abuse by that angel thing whose name I cannot recall at this point in my review.

[Yu] “And then! Guren was all ‘buwaah!’ And Mika was all ‘du-dun!’ And I was all ‘gyaaah!’ But she was like ‘No, it’ll be OK!’…” [Kimizuki] “Yeah, I have no clue what you’re talking about...” [Y] “Wha?! How could you not get that?!” [K] “Because you’re talking toddler gibberish! Speak normally!”

[Krul, to herself] “Sheesh. If I’d raised them, none of them would have turned out remotely this stupid. Mikaela certainly didn’t”

So, this obviously is a bit of a tonal shift from last volume’s angst-fest! It at least kind of makes sense since the squad has just reunited after a very dangerous and confusing day, and Yu is giddy at the promise that he maybe hasn’t lost Mika forever!
However…Yu, I know you’d buddy up to Satan himself for that cause, but how do you not want to strangle Guren right now? Even if he says he’ll help, he’s the whole reason you’re in this predicament right now! Do you still not believe your sorta-boyfriend’s assessment that he’s sketchy as hell? Then again, both factions that say they want to “rescue” Mika clearly have their own ulterior motives, so maybe Yu’s just going with the one that includes more people he knows.
But Guren, look at me: Yu might not be aware of it, but don’t think I forgot that I’ve got my eye you, you bastard.
Finally, I love that Krul’s reaction to seeing Yu willing to humble himself to a vampire if it means saving Mika is “Aah, yes. He has it just as badly.”
Favorite moments (spoilers, obviously):
- The reveal of Mika’s (first) demon form, which is adorable. As in his vision of the perfect world, he looks like a little kid again – as the bonus poster reveals, he has even recovered his blue eyes – just with horns and a black hooded cape and a long smoky “tail”.
- The girls not listening to Yu’s rambling at all, excited over finding some soda. This turns out to be alcoholic, getting them very drunk, and Shinoa trying to grope Mitsuba.
Um, Shinoa? A) Was there no sexual harassment training in the Demon Army? You’re supposed to be the responsible CO, remember? And B) Are you SURE Yu is the one you have a crush on? Because you and Yu are ignoring each other despite the recent trauma (with no evidence of awkwardness being the cause), while THIS seems to happen a lot…
They try to drag Krul into it when she wakes up (“Go,Mitsu! Capture the new boobs!”), but the vampire queen is not having it. At which point the two girls puke on her.
So…not exactly high comedy, but a welcome break in the tension, now that we know Mika isn’t fully dead!
- Yu having immediately decided Krul is family twice over, since she’s the reason Mika didn’t die the first time, AND she’s Asuramaru’s sister. It’s a little dumb, but clearly even Krul finds that attitude endearing.
- This exchange:
[Yu] “You were gonna teach me how to rescue Mika, right? Let’s hear it!” [Krul] “I don’t like your attitude. Is that how you ask others for such a large favor? Who taught you your manners? What adult tried to raise you and failed so badly?” (flashbacks) [Yu] “Good question…I guess you could say it was Guren who raised me?” [Shinoa] “The Lt. Colonel does have an extremely bad attitude, yes.”…
- And this:
[Krul] “If you really want to rescue Mikaela that badly, prove it” (internally: Otherwise, it wouldn’t be fair to what he went through) At which Yu immediately kowtows down to the ground, begging her help quite politely, adding: “He’s my family. His life is more important to me than my own.”
- Krul’s reveal - to the kids; we as readers already knew something of this - that she had been approached by Mahiru Hiragi eight years earlier, telling her about the Seraph of the End, Yu and Mika…and about Ashera. Mahiru was the one who invented cursed gear (the demon weapons that kill vampires) and is considered a martyr hero by most, but Mitsuba notes there are rumors she betrayed the Hiragis, and that she was possessing/manipulating Guren. All eyes turn to Shinoa, but her sister was an enigma to her too. All she knows is that she and her half-sister Mahiru were created using cursed sperm that meant they carried a demon since birth, and that Mahiru taught her control it by literally trying to beat the ability to feel out of her. Notice that the Hiragis were doing this fucked-up shit BEFORE the apocalypse or the war with the vampires!
- A very revealing interaction between tiny Shinoa and slightly-less-tiny Shinya, in which she calls him out on deliberately losing a fight with another Hiragi half-sib. [Shinoa] “Keep throwing like that and my sister will become disillusioned with you. You were bought to be her fiancée, right? That’s the only reason the family’s keeping you.” [Shinya] “Am I a pet, then? Want me to bark for you?” (Mahiru and Kureto dueling) [Shinya] “But y’know, Shinoa…She’s already in love with someone…What kind of guy could get that monster of a genius to fall in love with him? I’m dying of curiosity.”
So…Shinya was only Mahiru’s fiancée because her family literally BOUGHT him, and he’s already interested in Guren before he even meets him. Yeah, that tracks!
- Demon-Mika watching the dream of his human self having a cup of noodles with Yu after putting the littler orphans to bed. His response is somewhat ominous and yet encouraging: “Who are these two?...I haven’t a clue. Yet, for some reason, they’re so precious…I have to protect this place for them.”
Protect it from what? Well, we then see Yu, Kimizuki, and Yoichi’s demons – their missing memories restored - trying to sneak in to try and control Mika (or “the king”, as they call him) because of some plan of the First!
- The reveal that Guren and Mahiru DID inject Mika with a curse-amplifying drug to hide him from the First until they can turn him into cursed gear. Which suggests they knew he would sacrifice himself for Yu and become a demon!
Guren, you fuckin’ bastard! Even if you DO end up saving the world or whatever, I still don’t think I’ll like you!
So, as the First confirms by possessing Shinoa again and speaking through her: On one hand, we have Krul, Mahiru, and Guren, who want to defeat the First for what he did to them and their loved ones. On the other, we have the First, who says he wants to save his beloved son, Mikaela. However, not only has the First done some really fucked up things in pursuit of that goal, there are strong indications that one of those things is creating and killing multiple versions of Yu, which I don’t think Mika would be cool with! Actually, he’s kind of already said he wants nothing to do with any of these people. That sets up quite a tense situation around who’s going to “save” him, and for what ulterior motive?
Also interesting: This sets Ashera/Asuramaru against all the other people Yu considers “family” (and will therefore probably side with). The demon looks a little conflicted when Gekkouin talks about what a good relationship he has with Yoichi. Because Yu absolutely considers Asuramaru a friend, but is NOT going to be OK with what the demons are about to do.

I was screaming and crying when Yu got on his knees to beg Krul to help save Mika and then Krul is basically like damn, this bitch is just as down bad. 😭
Demon Mika is a little kid and he's so baby boy.😭 His little shadow tail??? Adorable, get out. The way he was watching himself and Yu in his dream fantasy taking care of the orphan children and eating noodles and then was like idk who they are but they are so precious and I have to protect this place for them. Like no YOU are the precious one.😭
I'm very confused as usual as to what Guren's goal even is at this point. He plans to put demon Mika inside of cursed gear now but also the First wants Mika and takes over Shinoa again and this could have all been avoided by Guren not doing any of that?? Like what does this have to do with saving the world my dude.
Had me sick when Krul asks Yu who raised him because he has awful manners and then flashback, Guren technically raised him.😭 I just wish Yu would get mad at Guren for what he's done. Lowkey most of this is his fault and Yu is so pure and simple he's just worried about saving Guren??
We learn more about Shinoa and Mahiru's backstory and how they were just experiments from birth which is super sad but I also still hate Mahiru so. 😔✌️ Really bizarre stuff going on there.
Flashback and seeing a younger Shinya purposely losing a fight and him talking about how even though he was brought into the family just to marry Mahiru, she's already in love with someone else. Shinya thinking about how much he wants to know the kind of person who could get her to fall in love with them like stoppp, not him being interested in Guren before they even met.😭
There was a lot of stupid comedy in this that was supposed to be funny but was just dumb: Shinoa and Mitsuba accidentally drink alcohol and then Shinoa tries to grope her. Then Krul wakes up and they try to grope her but Krul is like ew fuck off, and then both girls puke on her. Like girl what? Why the fuck are the girls always getting into such creepy weird situations?? Why are they so obsessed with boobs, wtf? I'm sure the thought of any of the various boys getting drunk and touching each other was never on the table huh.
After the last volume was so full of pain and angst, having all this was so wild. This writer gives me so much whiplash.
Also what happened to Narumi? I just realized he was gone.💀 I think they also forgot he existed lmao.

I'm coming back this manga and I remembered why I liked it so much. A slow volume but my favorite characters are back again. The fascination with boobs is weird tho.

Yu and his friends learn a little from the vampire queen while Shinoa remembers her sister, uncovering more about herself. The demons and the cursed gear show they have agendas of their own, following a plot put into motion counter to Guren and Mahiru. Mika reveals another side of himself in the past from the perspective of others. It’s hard to tell who’s on whose side, but matters snapped into focus at the last panel. The flashbacks were a lot of fun. Mahiru is a lot more fun when she’s allowed to be more snarky, less of a feminine stereotype, showing her love for both Guren and Shinoa through cruelty. She had her most powerful panel yet in her meeting with Krul Tepes. I felt she was showing her true intentions at that moment. The artwork was again stunning. The cover of Mahiru and a young Shinoa; their lavender hair against a purple sky surrounded by yellow leaves was beautiful. The King was also beautiful, like and unlike Mika. He, Ashera, Kiseki-o, and Krul were all adorable, engaging my sympathies without seeming any less dangerous. Shinoa’s way of blowing off steam involving Youichi, Mitsuba, and nearly being eaten by Krul was hilarious. Another beautiful balance of character development, action, humor, and fast-moving plot came together in this volume, even during moments where I was able to breathe a little. I’m excited to see what will happen next. I was also touched by Kagami-sensei’s personal note at the end. As an artist, it’s been hard, pressing on amidst everything happening in the world. It’s admirable that Kagami-sensei kept going, not to mention inspirational to me. I appreciated his words, letting us know we’re not alone.

AHHH ese último capítulo fue el único emocionanteee omg se está poniendo más bueno el asunto
Ya se están aclarando más cosas pero también surgen nuevas y la confusión persiste jajsj
Ya sabemos más de Mahiru y su pasado y que básicamente existe para servir a Shikama, así como su familia, y nació con sus genes (también shinoa pero esta no resultó tan poderosa) y ella no desea ser controlada, en cambio quiere tener la libertad de regir su vida, y bueno yo sigo diciendo que no me agrada y que tiene muchos problemas mentales jajsj
Como había dicho, Shikama pienso que es el principal enemigo; y bueno Guren y Mahiru están contra el así que supongo no son los malvados pero eso no significa que no les puedo tener desprecio, ambos personajes son un poco odiables y egocéntricos.
Ahora sabemos que Krul también se alió con Mahiru y Guren, y está en contra de Shikama para salvar a su hermano Ashera, y este, ahora se vió que está del lado de Shikama y le sirven a él, al igual que los otros demonios kisekio y gekkouin
Realmente creo que no sé cómo funciona ser demonio y cómo fue que Mika se transformó en uno súper fácil jajsj o sea solo sé que los vampiros se convierten en demonios por falta de sangre o corazón. Pero y ¿cómo es que es más poderoso que los demás demonios? ¿Por qué le dicen el rey? Lo que supongo es porque es el hijo de Shikama y es muy poderoso por eso.
¿Qué planea Mahiru y Guren con Mika demonio? ¿Quieren ayudar? Y más importante, ¿qué quiere o qué hará Shikama con Mika demonio?

Realmente creo que no sé cómo funciona ser demonio y cómo fue que Mika se transformó en uno súper fácil jajsj o sea solo sé que los vampiros se convierten en demonios por falta de sangre o corazón. Pero y ¿cómo es que es más poderoso que los demás demonios? ¿Por qué le dicen el rey? Lo que supongo es porque es el hijo de Shikama y es muy poderoso por eso.
¿Qué planea Mahiru y Guren con Mika demonio? ¿Quieren ayudar? Y más importante, ¿qué quiere o qué hará Shikama con Mika demonio?

This volume is my least fav yet? Not sure why but it is...
• Yuu, Mika and Shinoa' childhood truly sucked and I feel so bad for my kids what did they ever do to deserve any of this even?
• mahiru I just ... I don't know how I feel about her but I wouldn't call her genius more like insane??
• I love how Ashura and now Krul mentioning how bad both Yuu and Mika have it for each others! that's like my fav thing or when Yuu got on his knees and beg the Queen for help getting Mika back He is my family, His life is more important to me than my own. That's why I need to know how to save him. I beg you. I'll never get bored of moments like this which shows how much Yuu and Mika love each others and how far are they willing to got for each others sake in fact that's why I read this series

• And am I the only one who thinks this whole thing could been prevented if Guren just left Mika the hell alone? RIGHT NOW WITH WHAT HE DID HE'S LITERALLY HELPING THE FIRST TO GET WHAT HE WANTS ughhh I'm mad

I love how Ashera and now Krul mention how bad both Yuu and Mika have it for each other! that's like my fav thing or when Yuu got on his knees and beg the Queen for help getting Mika back He is my family, and His life is more important to me than my own. They reveal is that Guren and Mahiru DID inject Mika with a curse-amplifying drug to hide him from the First until they can turn him into cursed gear. This suggests they knew he would sacrifice himself for Yu and become a demon!
Guren, you fuckin’ bastard! Even if you DO end up saving the world or whatever, I still don’t think I’ll like you!

A very character-driven volume with most chapters ending up being an exploration of some characters backstory or current situation from Mika to Kimuzki to Yoichi to Shinoa and Mahiru.
I did enjoy the exploration of Mahiru's deal. Shes been this elusive character so far. But her deal with Shinoa makes no sense. I just don't get it. I get she's a person who hides her intentions and is meant to be hard to read but her actions to Shinoa came off hot-and-cold and just bipolar.
The exploration of Kimizuki and Yoichi was neat. We haven't seen much if Yu's squad get explored so any time spent on them is time I enjoy.
Krul works with Yu's squad cuz of last volume and their dynamic is a fun one. She also gets to help explain some of Seraph of the End's crucial backstory that Kagami is finally giving us.
The ending has me really hyped for next volume.

A new low for this series.
- a third of this volume is about people getting drunk and vomiting all over the place and other people??
- the boobies talk nonsense just won't stop!!!!!
- Kagami just doesn't know how to write female characters
- he cannot write AT ALL, actually; it's all bad but the way the female characters are written is just especially icky
- the flashback chapter gave us yet another "if you take a sip every time it's used, you get liver failure in half a chapter"- word: genius
- the menstruation talk....... *face in my hands*
- I randomly remembered Makoto Narumi; where IS that guy?? not even pea-brain Yu who can only talk about "family" like a broken record mentions him. Kagami 100% forgot him; it's not like he had any purpose in this story anyway, but that applies to most other characters too
- Kagami can't write; that isn't something new, but his shit writing just keeps and keeps on unraveling with no end in sight (an incredible feat, honestly)

I only trust mika and ashera tbh and if mika is not in his right mind at the moment I will sooner trust ashera than guren or mahiro even though I also don't trust the first. I kinda trust krull but between her and ashera I will pick ashera but all this might change next volume
Also if there's one thing I dislike the most in this series is the sense of humor, it feels like it's always out of place (specially in this volume) and all the characters always have the same sense of humor which simply doesn't work for me.

Enjoyable vampire story with militia action and intensity and love
I truly enjoy the storyline of yu and mika their undying love and devotion to each other as a family is touching how they never forget each other no matter what happens. Also the humor side of it is incredible how absent minded yu can be ,seeing this mika makes up for that which his intelligent reasoning. It has everything action , fantasy, supernatural , love, humor, all that make a great read !

Things are getting so crazy. There are so many plot points all coming together. Between Mahiru and Shinoa being experimented on because they have demons inside, to Mikaela potentially being turned into cursed gear. It is crazy! Also, I hope Kimizuki can find a way to save his sister. She was experimented on so heavily, only for her to end up "dead". This series is insane though!

It's been a while so I honestly forgot where this left off, but this was one of the better volumes in a WHILE for this series. This left me with more questions than answers and I'm not even upset about it.

I am a little bit fed up of Yu being called dumb I don't know how many time, this is getting so old...
I love that Krul is now the leader of the team & that Yu is desperate to save Mika.
The story doesn't advance much beside that.

Increasingly intrigued and annoyed at characters, but I couldn't help but continue reading. I can't say it was perfect, but it was compelling, and there's so many pieces of info we still need that I need to keep reading.

Debo decir que ya lo que pase a estas dos hermanas que salen en la portada me da igual, y de igual manera guren se me esta haciendo x como que va perdiendo personalidad que tenia en los primeros tomos, y la tragedia de ellos ya se extendió tanto que ya no da para mas.
