Timothy Moore is dying. After being diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer, he’s dropped out of school and doesn’t see much point in hoping for more. The only thing keeping him going is his friend Robin’s faith in him. When Robin insists he put in a call to a curious podcast, Timothy makes a wish that’ll change his life.
A vampire with a heart of gold, Michael’s spent centuries practicing medicine. These days he can save far more people than he did in the triage tents of his youth. But when he meets Timothy at a club, he finds one hopeless case he can’t tolerate.
There’s barely any time to save Timothy’s life, and Timothy’s wish might get him more than he bargained for—life, death, and a vampire Daddy willing to do anything for him.
This short story was originally published in the charity collection, Heart2Heart: Volume 4. It had been reedited and expanded with an additional scene.
W.M. Fawkes is an author of LGBTQ+ urban fantasy and paranormal romance. With coauthor Sam Burns, she writes feisty Greek gods, men, and monsters in the Lords of the Underworld series. She lives with her partner in a house owned by three halloween-hued felines that dabble regularly in shadow walking.
College lacrosse player Timothy only has a few months left to live, although he doesn’t feel like he’s really lived at all. But when his bestie, Robin, talks him into a night out for one last hurrah, Timothy lucks out and meets sexy, bearded doctor Michael… who also happens to be a vampire and willing to turn Timothy to save his life.
This was a cool, intriguing premise and I enjoyed every minute of the short story told. But I’m so damn greedy for more of a good thing and would have LOVED to have read a full-length novel of this story. Perhaps then the characters and emotions and their relationship could have been fleshed out a bit more, and I’m betting I would have adored it!
As far as short stories go, though, this was good, quick, sexy fun, with juicy hurt-comfort themes and a delicious daddy vampire that is all eager and willing to save his boy and teach him EVERYTHING. 🔥🥰❤️
After Timothy discovers he has cancer and has 3 months to live he loses all excitement for life and drops out of college and stays home doing nothing.
His best friend and roommate, Robin, encourages him to go out clubbing one night where he meets Michael. When Timothy collapses at the club Michael, Robin and Michael's friend Luke rush him to the hospital.
When Timothy wakes up he discovers Michael is a doctor and a little something else that might be the answer to his prayers.
It was a short and sweet book. Michael is great. Timothy is adorable. The story is written in both their POV.
Short and to the point - unlikely metting of two people who can help each other and build a life together.
I was not a fan of the beginning since I so dislike having that absurd trope of a "responsible" main lead having some wild best friend that will drag them to some party they don't actually want to attend and because of my own homebody, reading-is-my-partying mindset I severely dislike it when the MC agrees and basically finds some nest of vices and skin and drinks and dancing.
And really, if you want your MC to meet an old, vampiric doctor, why is some party the best option?!
Talk about a second chance in life. I hate that Timothy had to go through so much pain. I was glad that he got a second chance on life and that was so very unexpected in a lot of ways. I enjoyed watching him adjust to living and finding love.
For a short novella I enjoyed it but it seemed rushed, if that makes since for a short novella??? Good premise and easy to like characters. Let's pay Robin and Luke a visit.
Short and sweet. I liked the characters. There’s some daddy kink and large age gap (as is common with vampire stories) I liked that Michael kept up with the times.
I didn't expect to like this as much as I did. It's a solid 4.5.
Timothy has sh*tty luck. He's dying. From an inoperable brain tumor. He's a young college kid who's bible belt family disowned him the minute he came out as gay. And now he has only months to live. His only support his best friend and roommate Robin. To make matter's worse...if they could get worse...is the fact he's a virgin.
Something he'd like to remedy with the help of a daddy type hook up so at least he'll die with that bucket list item checked.
Robin drags Timothy to a club with that same intention in mind. Find his friend a burly daddy to coax him through is first time. At the club Timothy meets Michael. Who looks like a lumberjack daddy, but is in fact a centuries old vampire.
I don't have the spell the rest out for you. Obviously Timothy doesn't "die". There is an HEA.
What impressed me was how fleshed out the characters were for a quick 40 page story. I've read full on books that didn't provide the amount of love and attention these authors did with these two characters. I'm actually disappointed it wasn't a series. There is a second book. Called In Death by the same authors. It's Robin, the roommate's tale.
2.5 stars rounding up because I like this duo of authors.
I've first read that in the Heart2Heart anthology so my review is pretty much a copy-paste (although I'm expanding it a bit) of what I wrote there because although the story was expanded by a scene (I think the one in the end) nothing really changed of what I felt when I read it there so here goes:
It was a bit too obvious that the solution here would come from vampires but it wasn't really explored how the vampires worked in this world. The supernatural, by Timothy and Robin's obliviousness, isn't known so how did Michael work as a doctor and being 200 years old? Does he move every so often? Change names?
The transaction from human to vampire was too easy with no info given. There was some kink thrown in to get the blood pumping but the story, even for a short one, was entirely too basic with nothing explored and knowing what these two authors can do, disappointing.
I had read the second book in this series "In Death" first and really loved it. Timothy's story is much shorter, but was written for an Anthology release, "Heart to Heart." Despite being short Timothy and Robin, his best friend grab your heart strings and I got a little "snufflely" when I read the first couple of chapters. It could easily have been longer, and maybe the authors will do that another day. Timothy is dying and Robin, his best friend will do anything to give him hope, including a call to a "podcast" for wishes to give Timothy a chance to ask for life instead of death. He meets Michael at a club and it is immediate attraction. Is Michael what he needs or has Timothy set his wish unrealistically high? Read and find out and then pick up Robin's and Luke's story. A much longer read and very good. Both well worth reading.
Short story about a dying (cancer) young man who meets the world's nicest vampire. The majority of vampires that I've read about are arrogant, or power-hungry, in the middle of some type of supernatural species war, or just flat out killers: this vampire is a friendly neurosurgeon by profession/daddy at night looking for his boy which is in a way was kind of bland (the him being so nice part).
The book ended up turning into a daddy/boy story which I wasn't expecting, but I guess it is nice to read a book that has such a HEA for an MC who was literally dying.
Came back for a quick re-read before going on to read In Death. Enjoyed this short in Heart2Heart even with the constraints of being a short story. Though life altering decisions are made quickly, there is ample reason given as to why that must happen. There is a good base built between the two characters and a connection that feels right even in the short time. Looking forward to seeing the pair again in the next book as we learn about what happens with Robin!
It's a short story, so there's not much actually going on, it's simple and to the point, but still managed to pack an emotional punch and I did shed a tear. I'd have loved to see at least one more scene btw the two MC's that is not flirting or a sex scene, just to get a feel of their everyday life, interactions, that's why substracting a star.
Overall nice daddy/boy short, not so much about the vampire part, so, be warned :D
At 52 pages, this was honestly too short to form a full opinion, but I liked what was there. Vampire daddies? ✅ Lumberjacks? ✅ Vampire lumberjacks ✅✅ Virgin Boy? ✅ Dying virgin who's all-in on being Changed so he doesn't die? ✅ Sweetness and caring? ✅✅✅
Now, flesh this out into a 300-or-so page book, and I'll read the hell out of it, because there's enough hints of backstory and secondary characters that I don't think it would seem filler-y.
Oh my gah, this story was amazing!! I can't wait to see the next one and see what happens with Robin bringing life back into Luke, but Michael was the perfect thing for Timothy. In more ways than one. I. So glad I got to read this story. I was so upset when I couldn't get the Heart2Heart anthologies and am glad this one was rereleased so I could read it. It made my day.
The story was intriguing, but it needed to be longer. The development of the characters was shallow and brief. Their involvement with each other rushed and lacked emotional development. I felt like I was reading a synopsis, not a completed story. The ending was left up in the air.
4.25 stars I'm so glad there's a second story to follow this one. It's lovely on its own, but I want more, especially since it's Robin and Luke's story. Timothy and Michael are perfect together, and I can't wait to see Robin's take on their HEA!
If you like a bite to your M/M romance , then buy this one quick!! It's filled with angst, loss, strong characters, a HEA plus some steam. Everything you want in 43 pages! Enjoy!!
3 stars… Daddy vampire? Damn sign me up. Worst part about this book is that it’s just too short to really get where I wanted it wish it was more spicy and longer.
