Tempest Clarke has something to celebrate. She has signed the biggest contract of her career and books a private chef for a celebratory dinner with her best friend. She goes through with the dinner after her best friend unexpectedly cancels. The private chef, Russ Bradley, is nothing like Tempest expected and she definitely isn’t prepared for the chemistry that smolders between them like the hottest flame. It doesn’t take long before Tempest decides that the dinner Russ cooks up won’t be the only thing to get ATE.
Rilzy Adams needs only five things to survive: sushi, coffee, Prosecco, cuddles and words (though not in that order).
She's a lawyer by day - writer by 'whenever she can get the free time' and believes that love makes the world go 'round. It is no small wonder, then, that she can't help but pen tales of people falling in love.
I've seen ATE a couple of times when I was scrolling through Kindle; however, I was hesitant because I didn't completely love Adams' Christmas novella. On Valentine's Day it was free on Kindle so I decided to pick it up and it did not fail me. It had food and romance and who knew that that was all I needed in life. To be such a short book, I can't even begin to tell ya'll how much I wanted to know more about this couple.
Ate focuses on Tempest and Russ. Tempest has just made a major business deal and decided to celebrate buy hiring a personal chef for her and her best friend. However, when her best friend bails Tempest is left alone with Russ. Their chemistry was on point. I mean literally from the time they begin their conversation I could feel the sexual tension. If you know anything about me as a romance reader then you should know that I'm huge on chemistry. If characters don't have chemistry I'm not invested in their relationship and as a result I lose interest. Tempest and Russ definitely don't have that problem. And while this book does feature sex pretty quickly, I do love that they spent a little time getting to know each other. There is also a connection beyond sex and the reader is able to see that through their individual narratives.
Overall, this was great. It was HOT. I mean really hot. The pure creativity alone had me overwhelmed. I'm not even really sure how Tempest lasted through the night because after round one I would have been completely finished. Competely tapped out. I can't wait to read more of Rilzy Adams' works.
Tempest & Russ spent the evening getting acquainted with one another’s various body parts…Boy, this was a little sexy story.
I purchased the audiobook version for my second read….Winston James as always to me did a wonderful job with his narration…It felt as if the young lady was simply reading the story to me…Still a good book.
"He needed to feel something burning through his body other than lust and the irrational anger he was feeling at being cockblocked by an oven timer."
This is an erotica novelette from the queen, Rilzy Adams. Given that it was only 43 pages, I was quite surprised that we didn't just jump right into the sex. The scenes were really hot and I loved how the sexual tension built up over the course of the dinner (there is a scene involving melted chocolate and strawberries). I loved Tempest and Russ together and then chemistry was off the charts.
A great read for anyone wanting a quick and steamy read.
I may need to read this again to give a fair review because based off the audio, it was jus ok. I love both narrators but the passion and deliver was severely lacking so I couldn’t connect with the story the same way I have with other spicy novella’s. Tempest and Russ had a promising storyline and I think that the potential was there. I mean who doesn’t want to have a private chef serve up a full course meal and d!xk for dessert! 😩 sounds like a win win to me!
4.5✨I had no business listening to this audiobook during my lunch break today but I did and I was so pleased. Lol. It was just the pick me up that I needed on a gloomy Friday. I liked the quick pace of the story, my only complaint is the narrators were good but it confused me when the female narrator would speak while the male narrator was doing his chapter (and vice versa). Overall it kept my attention and I loved the word play on, “Ate”.
Short and extremely sexy novelette, a woman celebrates a big accomplishment by hiring a professional chef who turns out to be as willing to feed her as he is to eat her. Delightful.
Bonus points for creative use of a kitchen counter.
ATE was a short and sexy novella which had Rilzy Adams' signature steamy scenes. It's a good book to try if you want to decide if you would enjoy her books.
It was okay. I wish there was more chemistry. Writing was good but I wanted to see a bit more dialogue cus it felt like everything was written and not felt. I just couldn't feel their chemistry.
i loveeeeed this audiobook. it was about an hour long but the chemistry between tempest and russ was through the roof! i really loved that it is a duet narration because it felt like i was listening in on a intimate conversation between two characters as opposed to listening to a book.
this novelette gave me just enough to want more while leaving me perfectly content with how it ended.
This novelette does exactly what it sets out to do - serve up a hot sexual encounter with little filler. I love that it didn't promise too much at the end (at this length ) and it fits its pages well. Perfect for when you want a short, sexy book to break up other reading... my favorite Adams to date.
♡ chef hero ♡ short and steamy ♡ great banter ♡ Black love
Honestly, my only complaint about this book was that it was a little bit too short, but I fully expected that because it says it right from the beginning. I loved the entire premise of this book (the heroine's friend cancels on her private celebration dinner, so it ends up just being her and the private chef she hired), so much so that I truly would've loved this to be a full-length novel. I wanted more of the couple's banter because it was so good! I'll definitely be reading more from this author in the future!
read for the tarot readathon 2025: 4 of wands (read a book that features a celebratory event, such as a wedding, party, or festival)
this was such a fun smutty little escape. it’s a quick 56 page novella so obviously there’s not a ton of plot or complexity but honestly it gave me exactly what i wanted. the two main characters really balanced each other out in a way that felt real and natural, which is impressive given the page count.
also the fact that the male lead is a private chef? so interesting! it added a cool flavor to the story and i loved all the food talk in here. their chemistry in the spicy scenes was definitely there, which i appreciated. rilzy adams managed to make me care about these characters and their connection in such a short time and that’s a skill.
if you’re looking for a quick, steamy read that doesn’t take itself too seriously but still delivers on character connection and fun vibes, this is a solid pick.
The story starts out with Tempest who has successfully landed a major business deal and chooses to celebrate with her BFF by having a private dinner with a personal chef. However, when her friend cancels due to work, Tempest decided to go ahead with the celebration and meets Russ. The sexual tension is THICK from the moment they meet. You have been warned, be prepared for some serious smut!!! I absolutely loved Russ and Tempest. This short read was fun and interesting. Loved it!
This was a spicy novelette. It gave what it needed to give! He came to cook for her and he ended up doing the eating! 🤪 It was short sweet, spicy and now I wanna try his oxtails… 🤷🏾♀️
This novelette was perfection! Short and steamy night between Tempest and Russ, the private chef she hires to cook a celebratory meal at her home. Even though this is a super short read, I loved the little bit of angst drawn out with it being slow-burn. Both characters are successful entrepreneurs, the hero owns a restaurant and co-owns the private chef business and the heroine quit her job as an attorney to start a line of natural hair care and skin care. Delicious food being cooked, engaging conversation, and super hot steamy times…what more could you want.
ATE is definitely sexy. This novelette centers around Tempest who hires a private chef to cook a celebratory dinner in honor of the major deal she's made selling her hair and skincare company. Her best friend has to cancel at the last minute leaving Tempest to dine by herself.
Chef Russ Bradley is usually cool and confident in the kitchen but the woman before him has him barely holding himself together. Sexual tension is heavy in the air as he does his best to try and focus on the task at hand.
It's erotica and Rilzy definitely delivers when it comes to the sex scenes. Chemistry will make or break a book like this and Tempest and Russ have plenty to spare. They connect very easily so there's a playful banter between them. And Russ and Tempest manage to fit in a couple of rounds while each steamy sex scene manages to be hotter than the next. I liked that they were all a little different so it didn't feel like you are reading the same one back to back.
If you're just looking for a smutty quick fix and a little food play intrigues you then definitely check this one out!
This isn’t a story. It’s like a moment that was captured on paper. It’s was basically food and sex But it was juicy and fulfilling. I normally don’t read novels but I’m so glad that I read this. It was quick and very sexy.
ATE should come with a caution sign because this is a five alarm fire kind of read! It’s super short, but an incredibly sexy novelette that had my kindle practically bursting into flames in my hands. Tempest is a successful business woman, wealthy, and she knows exactly what she wants in the bedroom -- or on the kitchen counter in this case. Russ had no chance of resisting Tempest and he wasn’t interested in even trying. A famous chef and restaurant owner who does private dinner packages on the side, he finds Tempest sexy, engaging, and the perfect woman for him. These two have a very steamy encounter before leaving the reader with a Happy For Now and the possibility of more. I highly recommend this one!
