Lucas McKenzie figures spending the holidays with his annoying roommate's family is better than being alone on campus. The last thing he expects is to lust over Sam's brother -- or for Nate to actually want him back.

They hide their attraction during Hanukkah celebrations, but behind closed doors, Lucas and Nate can't keep their hands (or mouths) off each other. Nate's only looking for a bit of holiday fun, and amazing sex with a hot virgin definitely fits the bill.

Yet as the candles burn, Nate and Lucas begin to realize eight nights will never be enough.

This is an utterly romantic, heartwarming story that revolves around the eight nights of Chanukah.

So many stories celebrate Christmas, and I'm good with that. I don't begrudge anyone their faith or traditions, but it's nice to see Chanukah included.

Keira Andrews does an admirable job showing the spirit of Chanukah: the lighting of the menorah, the delicious (and not even remotely fattening because HOLIDAYS) fried food, the family togetherness. It all felt very authentic to me as a secular Jew.

Lucas and Nate are adorable together. Lucas is a little bewildered to be welcomed into the fold, since he's just Sam's roommate. But when he meets Sam's younger brother, Nathaniel, things start to look a little brighter.

Nate isn't out to his family and is studying pre-law instead of pursuing his true passion of photography. Lucas calls Nate out on his excuses; Nate gets really defensive but apologizes quickly.

The story doesn't skimp on the sexy times, and there's even a little hurt/comfort thrown in. The epilogue is a pure, joyful HEA.

Even if you don't celebrate Chanukah, give this lovely story a try.

P.S. I just bought this mug for my brother. WIN!

This is a rework of a previous novella (EIGHT NIGHTS), which was followed by a novel sequel (DAYBREAK). I've added 10,ooo words to this novella and renamed it. It's almost twice the length of EIGHT NIGHTS and has a stronger HEA. The sequel has been retired. I wrote it 10 years ago before I really understood the romance genre, and it no longer fits my brand. So I'm pleased to give Nate and Lucas a reworked story that I think is much stronger and satisfying. To me, at least. I hope you'll agree! :)

A perfect way to wrap up my Hanukkah.

Eight Nights in December by Keira Andrews felt like the perfect Hanukkah romance. Hanukkah isn't a very important Jewish holiday, and it certainly doesn't give (even me) that giddiness like Christmas does with Christians, but it was really great to find a Hanukkah romance that felt authentic and seasonal. Half-hearted latkes and candle-lighting sounds about right to me.

I liked the combo of a sweet Hanukkah romance mixed with some spicy sex. Keira Andrews knows I love a virgin so she gives them to me. Bless her.

Though the story was short, it felt complete and very heart-warming. I sometimes struggle with new adult romances, but I didn't with this one. It still had its limitations, as novellas often do, and I often wish novellas were novels instead, but I think it still struck all the right notes.

I could read bashert romances for days. Bring on the Jewish boys!

I'm a total sucker for holiday novellas and Eight Nights in December by Keira Andrews is an excellent example of why. It was a full story that included all parts of a story. The characters, setting, plot, conflict, and resolution- in under 100 pages. That's hard to do! Add:

Roomate's brother + geek + virgin + sexytimes + a sprinkle of angst + a sweet epilogue = GOLDEN!

I also appreciated that it was a Chanukah story. They're kind of few and far between, you know.

All in all, I highly recommend this sweet story about family, following your dreams, and falling in love when you least expect it.

Lucas is a college freshman with no family and no place to go for Christmas break. When his older roommate’s mother insists he comes home with them to join in their Hanukkah celebrations, Lucas finds himself in New York City for the first time, sharing a room with his roommate’s gorgeous and (apparently) geeky brother, Nate.

Lucas is a virgin but knows he’s gay. His attraction to Nate is immediate and, thankfully, reciprocated. Nate is more experienced but he’s not out to his family, so the two young men spend the eight nights of Hanukkah sneaking in time to explore each other more intimately in the privacy of Nate’s bedroom.

Nate is initially adamant that he’s not looking for a relationship, much to Lucas’ disappointment, but over eight magical days spent exploring the city, celebrating traditions with family, and spending their nights wrapped up in each other, Lucas and Nate discover what they have might be more precious than just a holiday fling.

This story isn’t all that long but it packed quite a bit into its limited pages, including lots of romance and steam between the MCs, some solid family feels, and plenty of festive magic highlighting the cultural significance and special traditions involved in Hanukkah celebrations.

This story is a revamp of two previous stories written by Keira Andrews, and although I did enjoy this new, revised offering, I will admit that the events that transpired in the original books definitely weighed on my mind while reading this. This is obviously an issue that won’t affect many readers, thank goodness, but it’s certainly a factor that I believe may have limited my overall enjoyment here, which is a shame.

Ultimately, this is a charming and sexy new holiday read, capturing the true spirit of Hanukkah.

I love the falling in love with the friend’s brother trope. But I had a very hard time liking Nate. No, I actually disliked him immensely. He was such an asshole to sweet Lucas at times.

Lucas doesn’t have any family left, so he has decides to stay on campus for Christmas break. That is until his roommate’s mother drags him to their place to celebrate Hanukkah together. Lucas goes along with it since he doesn’t have anywhere else to be.

Just when Lucas thinks he is pretty much stuck with Sam’s family while having to pretend to like football, he meets Nate, Sam’s ‘geeky’ brother. And since Nate has an extra bed in his room, the two are apparently sharing the room for the holidays…

I was really hoping Nate would have been indeed geeky, but except for the fact that he wore glasses there was nothing geeky about him. I found Lucas to be pretty sweet and so obviously a virgin that I was hoping he would find someone who would be equally sweet to him. But Nate was kind of flippant about their 'relationship' from the start with his whole, ‘I don’t want a boyfriend, let’s just have sex’ thing.

I know he eventually came around, but by that time I had already read too many pages with Lucas feeling awkward and lonely that I started to dislike Nate more and more.

Could be totally me though, since everyone else seems to like this.

This was a really sweet, sexy and heartwarming holiday story set during the eight days of Hanukkah. I love how the Jewish traditions are interwoven into the story, and I especially love how much they come to mean to Lucas ♥ ♥

There were some awkward bumps along the way, but overall I really enjoyed this quick read. I think I would have liked it more if we got Nate's POV. I don't feel like I ever really got to know all of him. Even by the end he still felt kind of distant to me.

But that epilogue....all kinds of ooey, gooey, holiday magic feels! I read that last page with the biggest smile on my face.

So, most of you know my story with this one. Quick summary, I read it when it was originally published, loved it, saw there was a second book, saw where it was going, pretty much had my love for the first ruined and I didn’t even read the second. Whew. So then I saw that it was being refreshed and re-released and as you can see below I was all about the NO.

And then my friends commented. The author changed it up. I was free to read this without the fear of a second book to ruin the first.

Ugh, ugh, ugh. I should have just left well enough alone and gone with my original gut feeling. For some reason I could not get what happened in the original published series out of my head. I thought about it the entire read. Anytime I felt good or pictured the boys I thought about that dreaded un-read second book.

I wish I had just loved the first one and left it there. I wish back in 2014 I never heard about the next book. I wish I had just gone with my gut when I saw this re-release. I should not have done this re-read.

So, I probably will just not rate this since this is all in my head and has absolutely nothing to do with this book. I'll just leave it back there in 2014.

Ignore me please. I hope the rest of you are getting to read this book for the first time!!

3.5 ⭐️

- forced proximity
- secret romance
- first times

Twenty year old college freshman Lucas plans to spend his first Christmas without his father alone in his dorm room, but ends up spending the holidays with his obnoxious roommate’s family in New York City instead.

Lucas is once again forced to share a room, but this time it’s with his roomie’s quiet younger brother, Nate. Nate is funny and kind and nothing at all like his older brother, and things heat up between them very quickly.

Hiding their chemistry (and inability to keep their hands off each other) grows increasing hard as the family’s Hanukkah celebrations amp up, but Lucas needs to remind himself that no matter what he feels for Nate, this is just supposed to be some holiday fun.

Eight Days in December is a surprisingly emotional but sweet story about grief, self discovery, and falling in love. I genuinely loved how welcoming the Kramer family was to Lucas and how they included him their traditions.

& really liked that Lucas and Nate instantly clicked, but would have definitely liked this to be longer and seen more of their relationship, but this was just so cute and adorable as is.

Rather than spending the holidays alone in the dorm, Lucas gets invited to spend Hanukkah with his jock roommate Sam and his family in NYC. Lucas ends up rooming with Sam's brother Nate, who is gay, cute, nerdy, prelaw and a great photographer. Nate isn't out to his parents and has no interest in a boyfriend:
“I can’t exactly bring home a nice boy to Mom and Dad. It’s easier this way. Besides, I’m not good at that stuff.” He smiled. “I like sex. I’m good at sex. Why complicate it?”
Over the eight nights of Hanukkah, Nate and Lucas become friends and lovers and their love story is sweetly satisfying with some pretty steamy sex scenes. I liked how Nate and his family share Hanukkah with Lucas and show him how their faith works in their everyday life. 4 stars for this lovely holiday story!

It was mid-okay. Low angst at its best. I like the details on Hanukkah in this one and now I’m craving for some Latke 😩🤤 Lucas and Nate love/lust development was okay, they noticed the sexual tension and soon enough they just went for it. Nate was closeted, so yeah the story starts there. I do like the aspect of how Nate never kept Lucas a secret despite being closeted. There was never guilt and terror I had to go through for them.

I did skim a large part of this book because it was too sex-focused. For a short book, the sex scenes were quite a lot 😬 and until Nate comes out, they still keep on fucking afterwards. Tbh, I’m not a fan of this anymore.

Overall, it wasn’t memorable enough only the fact that Nate was a closeted queer that made me kept going.

I adored this. This is the Kiera Andrews I know and love. We had two MC's, Nate and Lucas, who had very good chemistry and HOT sex scenes - like DAMN - with sufficient build up to a relationship. I was happy that this didn't rush things, they weren't all "i love you" after a week of knowing each other, but they did decide to date and the ending was adorable and sweet - and also fun because we get another sex scene ;)

The secondary characters could have perhaps been a little more developed, but I didn't mind too much in the end because this is a short novel mainly focused on our two MC's, so it didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the book.

For a short story, this still had good set up, good writing that made these well rounded characters and kept the essence that is Kiera Andrews' writing. I love this author and the majority of the time I love her books, and this was one of the ones I enjoyed very much.

This is good for a quick, enjoyable, hot read if you're looking for a fun book to read before Christmas. Definitely recommend :D

Loved this one from Keira Andrews which focuses on a Jewish festive celebration rather than the traditional Christian Christmas event.

I really enjoyed reading about the different traditions associated with Hanukkah, some of which I've come across before, others not so much.

Both Lucas and Nathaniel were sweet characters, each with their own fears and hopes and this first time love story worked totally for me.

The pacing of this story just didn't work for me. The same goes for the vague characterization of these young MCs. There were a few tender and a few hot moments. Losing of cherry moment was nice as was the random nightclub and public sex scene. But, overall, this made little impression on me.

Oh! I loved this one! I didn't want it to end. Honestly I can't believe it did end like that!

I've been trying to read some Holiday shorties and this is one of the first that really moved me.

Yeah!

Hmmm...edit. I see there is a 2nd book. A 2nd book that I will never read.

4.5 Stars This was a lovely holiday story, set during Hanukkah. Lucas gets invited to stay with his roommates family for the holidays and meets Nate, brother of said roommate. Nate’s family is warm and welcoming, introducing Lucas to the customs and history of Hanukkah but not in any preachy sort of way. Exploring shared attraction and helping Lucas learn the wonders of sex, was all it was supposed to be. Nate is closeted from his family and Lucas hasn’t really come out. As Lucas and Nate spend time together sharing their history and dreams, naturally feelings develop.

There’s not a ton of holiday references but being set in New York, glimpses of the city in its seasonal display, and time the couple spent sightseeing, added great atmosphere and strong characterization. Dialogue is on point, the narrative moving along smoothly into a delightful epilogue set in the future. All the elements of a full length novel are condensed without feeling anything was missed or left out. This is recommended holiday reading, whatever faith you might be.

This review is for the audiobook version. I really enjoyed this holiday story…. A Hanukkah story actually not a Christmas story. It had its issues, but overall I loved it. I’d rate it 3.5 stars… rounded up to 4 stars. The narrator in this one was 5 stars all the way!

This was a sexy and sweet holiday novella.

When Lucas’ roommates’ mom comes to pick him up, and she learns he has nowhere to go over break, she insists he spends it with them. He ends up rooming with Sam’s hot, gay (closeted) brother, and they end up hitting it off. What was supposed to be a holiday fling quickly turns into love. Can they make their new love last?

I really enjoyed this. Other than Lucas’ grief for his recently deceased father, this was a pretty low angst story. I liked that Nate wasn’t afraid to offer comfort when he needed it. There was only a slight disagreement, which both boys were pretty quick to offer apologies for.

The focus was truly on them getting to know each other and fall in love over the Hanukkah holiday.

Offers a nice epilogue set a year later.

Do over! I’ve just discovered this is a reworked, redone, re-released story and I’m thankful I missed it the first time around. Why? Because I absolutely adored this version and from the spoiler chatter I ran across from a few years ago and I’m not certain I would have been able to say the same the first time around. The bones of the story remain the same but rather than having two books, Keira did some flipping and switching, (or more precisely, she did NOT) and wrapped up their story with a beautiful epilogue. Yay! It was tender, sweet and warmhearted…exactly what I’m searching for when it comes to holiday stories.

Lucas is a freshman in college doing his best to push forward after the loss of his father. His dad was the only family he had and his passing left a huge hole in his heart. His upperclassman roommate, Sam, is gorgeous but not what he envisions as his first boyfriend. Yeah, Lucas is discovering many things at college including embracing his sexuality. He’s been focused on his studies and trying to make up for the time he missed while he sat vigil at his father’s deathbed. Celebrating the holiday’s is not something he’s looking forward to this year but when his roommate’s mom appears like a windstorm he can’t turn down her invitation to join them. He figures anything is better than spending them alone. Family traditions and a sexy younger brother who IS everything he imagined his first love to be brighten the holiday to a blinding level. Nate is full of surprises but the biggest surprise of all is how Lucas understands him. Nate is adamant that he is not interested in anything long-term but then he didn’t plan on meeting or falling for Lucas. *sigh* First love, first time, first…everything.

What's to like: Of course, the writing is superb. Andrews has mastered the skill of emotional pull and she snared me from the very beginning. My heart instantly ached for Lucas and I longed for him to be taken care of. Admittedly, I’m not the best with blurbs. So I will confess that when the story began, I wasn’t sure if Lucas was attracted to Sam or not. But I was thrilled when Nate entered the picture. It was easy to see Lucas needed Nate but on the flip side, Nate needed Lucas just as much. They were better, stronger, and happier together…which is what made this connection so phenomenal.

What's to love: I loved how forgiving and eager Lucas was. I loved how shockingly possessive Nate was. I loved how madly they fell for each other. The last thing Lucas anticipated when he accepted the ‘be our guest’ invitation was to find his special someone. The last thing Nate thought would happen over Hanukkah was scoring a boyfriend. But sometimes, the best gifts are those we never foresee coming. Speaking of coming…Lucas sheds his virgin card and does his best to jump to experienced over the course of holiday break. Nate is more than happy to oblige in assisting him. They are scorching hot together. But it’s not just the sex…it’s the tenderness, the compassion, the infatuation. Put it all together and it’s a heady combination. Top it off with the family touches and Hanukkah goodness and I was grinning from ear to ear.

Beware of: Death of a parent, sexual discovery and sexy nerds. Their fall may be quick, but I didn’t mind the timeline at all. And the epilogue was pure perfection!

This book is for: If you are looking for a Hanukkah story with big heart, this lovely story fits the bill
