yorikoooo the writer you areee 😩😩. i will eat up her mangas EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. i love a good friends with benefits to lovers, but throw some angst in the mix and i’m a freaking goner. haah…. yoriko just gets it 🙂↕️
I adored the characters so much, and the art style is so cute.
Yoshino Aoi is definitely a hot force to be reckoned with, but the start of their toilet rendezvous is really questionable—and the blackmail that came afterward. Not a fan of that. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't quite like the premise. I loved how Yoriko wrote Yoshino's character concept. He's not a bad guy, he's just horny and a little driven to the extreme. The kind where you're holding on to the red flag so tight but you're hesitant to raise it up for him. Kotarou on the other hand is the virgin prey that ends up getting hooked for more. (Lol, I'm kind of tired of this archetype lol, and why do they always name them Kotarou?) The ending is so sweet that I ended up really liking this. Hence, 3 stars.
The dub-con/SA caught me off guard since all the other works of this author (what I have read so far) didn’t had any of this… However, its still a solid yaoi. It’s giving old school toxic yaoi that starts physical and develop feelings way later but with the cute and refreshing art style of yoriko sen. But whyyyy do they keep fucking in bathroom when seme had a nice and empty apartment the whole time? he didn't even pay for a love hotel??? girls and guys throwing themselves to a cheap guy like that was too unrealistic … have more self love people !! at least make him pay😭
[ cw//tw: dubious consent ((semi-forced)), sexual coercion ((kind of, since the seme is a jerk manipulator)). ]
A story about a pair of polar opposites Aoi and Kotarou who becomes sexually involved. A typical lust to love story executed in mediocrity. Ever since I read Yoriko-sensei's past works, I couldn't help but have a high hopes for this one. But this manga didn't really fulfill it. The only character that has a good characterization was Yuriko ((and she only showed up for like five pages and in tiny panel)). Aoi is a trash manipulator, and Kotarou is so dumb since he is easily swept away by Aoi's eloquenceness and smooth acts. Throwing in some sad and traumatic backstory doesn't always save the forced plot, y'know 💁🏻♀️
This was okay. I liked it way more towards the end, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the way their relationship started. Like I feel like there was a better way to still have it be the same premise, but not have it be this. Also I feel like way too much was happening in too little of a space and Kota was too pure and clueless that it was just a little too much. I thought he was cute especially when he had some self awareness later on, but idk. I half liked it, but overall not that great.
Wow, I can't believe I never wrote a review for this book?! I've lost track of how many times I've re-read this since I first read it! It's such a super cute story about a playboy who meets his match when he hooks up with the cutest moe gap baby!! It does have a rough start involving a bathroom scene but tbh I also kind of liked the setup?! I just really liked how "passively assertive" our bottom was. Like, when asked for what he wanted he wasn't afraid to say and do what he felt, and when he didn't like something, you'd know. Plus, his face is SOOOOOO cute!! I want more of them!!
4/5. Highlights may contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.

Yoshino is a playboy on campus interested in Kotarou’s friend, so Kotarou pretends to be her boyfriend to get him to leave her alone. That turns into a bathroom erotic encounter where Yoshino learns Kotarou is a virgin and his new obsession is him. Interesting enough, we get where Kotarou expresses he doesn’t really have sexual desires towards anyone — and as the story unfolds, to me it read that he was demisexual.
You have your typical dubcon moment in this, but I was charmed by the two of them. At first Yoshino was bothering him as a joke, but he started to realize Kotarou was adorable, and Kotarou was recognizing that while he didn’t have sexual fantasies he enjoyed trying new things with Yoshino. They start going on friend dates, and those were sweet to see them bond.
The main conflict is the friends with benefits aspect - Kotarou catches feelings while Yoshino is attached to his playboy ways. It goes deeper though - Yoshino is honest about his struggles being bisexual; and his hesitancy around commitment. Overall, it was a refreshingly honest conversation.
My Ratings: Goodreads: 3/5 Storygraph: 3/5 My Rating: 4/5
My Review: Looking for your next quick read that is also a manga and gay? You walked right into it. Hetakuso Love Step or Clumsy Love Step written by Yoriko is a college romance. Kotaro is a loner with no friends besides his one childhood friend, Kyo. Kyo, to push off an unwanted suitor, asks Kotaro to be her fake boyfriend just to drive Yoshino away. Unfortunately for Kotaro, Yoshino is a huge perv who will sleep with anyone for fun, including Kotaro.
It is hard to say that this book is romance considering the very beginning of the manga is Kotaro being pushed into a bathroom by Yoshino. However, it takes a more romantic turn later on after their relationship progresses. Yoshino, although seems like a bad boy, is actually quite sweet and treats Kotaro with some form of respect. Kotaro learns to step outside of the box with Yoshino and their relationship blossoms.
The manga is quite fast-paced, unlike some others that I have read and currently reading. If you are looking for a simple and quick gay manga, I would recommend this one. It gets right to the point and doesn’t take too long to progress in the relationship.
This is so silly, but I want to see this author draw a yuri manga because those girls were so cuuuuuuute.
Okay - more seriously, nothing special here other than some really cute art and a really adorable HEA, with your typical dubcon opener. Wasn't big on all the toilet sex (it got to the point that I wondered if the author was showing their ass there, so to speak) and I like my dubcon a little more commented on; but it's a quick, cute, enjoyable read with a charmingly excitable top and a charmingly low-key bottom.
This was cute, but nothing stand-out. I enjoyed the way the author handled the shy character's reluctance without making it seem like dub-con/non-con (which is a common problem with the trope). In general, the characters are sweet, and the way they catch feelings is realistic to the lust-to-love trajectory of their dynamic. Everyone is a little 2D, but that's to be expected for a one-shot volume.
Overall, this was a quick, easy read, but it's unlikely to be memorable.
At first it looked like there would be dubious consent, and though Yoshino touched without permission, he asked for it a few pages later before things went further. And he did ask for permission as their physical relationship developed, so that wasn't an issue. I like honest and uncomplicated characters like Kotarou, which is the main reason I liked this manga so much.
