In the heart of London, Tarah has spent centuries building a life amongst the humans while hiding her job as an elven scout. Her family is tasked with protecting the portal to Moranaia now nestled in the middle of the city, and she is the one currently in charge of safeguarding the secret. A relatively boring job—until a sleeping dragon rises near Stonehenge.
After millennia of rest, Caeregas wakes to discover that his hoard was stolen by his brother, and he’ll do anything to retrieve it—including coercing the elven scout who found him into helping him track down Egrenneth, his treacherous brother. The only thing he failed to consider? Tarah might be his mate.
Though she hadn’t intended to spend her Mabon racing across the sky on a dragon’s back, Tarah has no choice but to cooperate with Caeregas’s plan. After all, his presence could draw attention to the fae realms and the portal she guards. Better to find his hoard and get him into hiding, right?
But if she isn’t careful, he might decide that she’s the greatest treasure of all.

CURRENTLY WRITING: Solace, book 8 of The Return of the Elves. Status: In editing
A short story paranormal romance, set on Earth in present-day London. It's connected to the Return of the Elves series. This story concerns a guardian elf and a newly-awoken disoriented dragon. It was funny and interesting. Typos: Defuse the conflict is what the author meant to write, just like you defuse a bomb. She wrote "diffuse," which means spread out. Look it up! Also, lay and lie have different meanings, but this fact escaped the author.
A lovely story that ties in well to the series. I love this series and these worlds and these beings. Always entertaining no matter how many times I reread them. But somehow I missed that I had thus story though I bought it years ago it was miss filed. Finding it today was an unexpected pleasure.
This is a lovely short story, I have not read any of the series as yet but this is a standalone and does not need to be read as part of the series. A dragon who has slept for thousands of years and an elf who guards a portal. Romantic with a little drama I thoroughly enjoyed this read
An excellent way to keep up with the Elves while awaiting the next book (8). The description of the environment is very well written & assists one’s imagination. Looking forward to more stories of the Elves.
I didn't realize it was a short story however I'm glad I checked it out. Yes it has a good story line I'm just not into romance books. Obviously I read it for the dragons and it does have dragons.
The Sentinels is a great addition to Adams’ Return of the Elves series. Here we have new characters and a different story line with only a reference to the main Return of the Elves world and one of the cast of regulars. Yet this short story stands alone. It’s imaginative and fun. Thanks, Bethany, for another great story!
Small novella sort of related to the rest of the Return of the Elves series. Great romance. Kind-of pulled a bunch of missing pieces together from the rest of the series (which I've read 3 times already). Enjoyed the love story and the continuation of the beautiful world of the Elves. Audible would have been great as I LOVE the narrators for this series. I read it in their voices.
