I really, REALLY wanted to love this because cats (enough said), but I'm not down for the main couple. I understand Nekoyama's manipulative and demanding behavior is understandable because he's a cat and those are two unfortunate traits cats have, but to me it didn't work in a romantic setting. Those traits gave an unhealthy power dynamic between the two (since she loves cats) and it made me uncomfortable watching him constantly manipulate her or the people around her to get his way. Also, he's completely aware of what he's doing and that she has problems with it, but he doesn't care. Ultimately, as much as I loved the art, the premise, and the cats, I can't see myself going forward with this series. Others, I'm sure, will enjoy it and not be bothered, but I can't sincerely root for this romance.

Erina seems like the class ice queen, but she’s really quite nice and has a huge soft spot for cats. After saving a poor feline, she gives it a smooch in the course of playing with it and naturally it transforms into her standoffish classmate Nekoyama. Is this love? Or merely a case of paws and effect?

Nekoyama is a cat. He. Is. A. Cat. Besides being this series’ goofball premise, it is key to understanding/enduring his incredibly snotty behaviour at the start of the book. He’s really coming on strong for most of this book, the first part especially.

It seemed like this was going to be another one of those hot bad boy stories, and it was, but being part of his nature (trust me, this guy goes nuts watching nature videos) makes it a bit more palatable. Cats - nature’s tsunderes.

Erina also gives as good as she gets, which might not seem to make for the healthiest relationship around, but sure is fun to watch. It’s hard to take Nekoyama’s aloof behaviour too seriously once you realize that he can be disarmed by a cat toy or Erina’s shoving him out windows.

It’s definitely the whole cat thing that gives this the extra zing that keeps it from falling into the traps or so many other books like this. Besides the fact that any kiss from anyone can trigger this transformation, Nekoyama has lead a pretty tough life because of this that does get him some extra sympathy.

This is also far more, uh, active than a lot of shojo books tend to be. Kisses are flying left, right, and centre, including one stolen one (bad Nekoyama!) that leads to some welcome recognizance later on.

When Nekoyama changes forms, however, he’s buck naked, so we’re not even a volume in and Erina’s seen him from tip to tail several times over. Honestly, having something that’s not entirely as pure as usual is kind of welcome, even if poor Erina is constantly scandalized.

It starts very small, but then just builds and builds on its nonsense until it’s pretty darn good. It probably won’t become a favourite, but it takes lots of basic cat behaviour and gets a good story out of it - the thunder scene is actually incredibly sweet and more romantic than this book likely deserves.

Needless to say, you should probably just read this anyway if you’re a cat person. Nekoyama is absolutely adorable in cat form and can talk, so you get some bonus antics out of that (the entire bathing story is very antic-forward).

3.5 stars - a wobbly first chapter gets cuter and more fun as it goes. Apparently I can excuse jerk behaviour a lot more when it comes from cats, which, given my own life, completely checks out.

THIS WAS SO CUTE?! My initial thought was that it'd be one of those raunchy and risque shoujo manga with totes no consent, heartbreaker cold guy—those infuriating ones, so, as much as possible, I tried my very best to avoid this one even though it's in my TBR, because I just don't feel like being disappointed today. Yup, that summarizes things. But then, I just had to do this today. AND DAMN, IT INDEED IS SEXY, YUP. BUT, HE'S REALLY A CAT! A CAT!!! Now that made me enjoy things. I adore fic contents of hero/ine transforming into animals. THE NEKO HERE IS CUTE, I'M NOT AILUROPHILE AND I TOTES DON'T ADORE MY SISTER'S CAT, BUT NEKOYAMA IS SO FRICKEN CUTE. AND THE STORY IS SO FUNNY! It's short, but whatever, there are sequels already.

+1 for Kyo Souma's rebirth in black hair.

I love reading mangas. It's only with them that you have bonkers plots like this and be like "Yeah, of course he's a cat." and just roll with it as if that's a perfectly normal and regular story line.

Miko Senri may not have a cat of her own, but she's clearly spent a lot of time observing them, because while the romance may be suspect, that cat is pitch-perfect.

3.5/5 rounded up

This was pretty cute. Nekoyama is a cat shifter for reasons yet to be explored and he adopts Erina as his owner. Whether it's affection, convenience, or to prevent his secret from being exposed (he does mention some rules he has to follow) is up in the air, but by the end of the first volume there's some feelings brewing. The way Nekoyama manipulates Erina is his cat form is pretty hilarious, and very true to "cat nature." He's kind of pushy at times, but he is a cat, and it's pretty obvious he doesn't see kissing as inherently romantic, more just a means to an end. The last scene was very sweet and hopefully we'll get more of both that tenderness and also some background story in future volumes.

I liked this. I love the premise (it reminds me of some cute, fluffy fanfics I've read) and the last couple of scenes were really cute. I wasn't the biggest fan of their dynamic and Kou's character at the start but I'm still kinda invested now so I'm going to read the next volume and see how it goes. 3.5 Stars, kind of.

Einfach herrlich.

Story 4,4/5
Charaktere 4,4/5
Zeichenstil 4,6/5
Lesegefühl 5+/5
Gesamt 4,6/5

Part of me was like, oh this is kind of weird, but then another part of me is like shut up, Fruits Basket is one of your favorite series, and it's pretty much the same concept (except, less emotional trauma as of right now) I WILL be reading at least the next book in the series to see what's going to happen.

What if a boy you know changes into a cat… oh and you are his new owner?

This one was one of the manga I got during the latest sale for Kodansha’s manga. I was curious about it. It sounded a bit weird, but also very cute.

😆 When Erina finds out who that cute cat is in her garden, and that is her grumpy/aloof classmate, Nekoyama-kun (and yes, his name fits perfect). Oh, and btw, he is naked EACH time he transforms back from a cat. Which yes, you can imagine how that works out for everyone. Well, OK, mostly for Erina as she is the one who gets to see that a lot of the time. He was pretty cool as a cucumber about it, but boy, you can imagine that people may just be shocked/react a tad differently. I mean, if a cat I just gave a little kiss turned into a hot boy, NAKED, I would also be like WTF!!!
🤔 I was a bit on the fence about the consent part. Nekoyama has to kiss either Erina or another animal to turn into a cat and vice versa. There were a couple of situations that had me go, no, Nekoyama you cannot just KISS Erina like that. I am glad that in the end he knew he couldn’t just kiss her and respected her boundaries. That made me happy.
🫤 On that part, the bathroom bit was just a bit eh. I get that Erina’s family member didn’t know about Nekoyama and being a shifter, but Nekoyama could at least have made sure he wasn’t anywhere near that bathroom so that wouldn’t have happened.
😊 I like that Erina and Nekoyama got closer. At first she was all huffy and puffy about things, but you could see them connect as the story continued. So yes, I am shipping them.
😮 I need to know more about Nekoyama and how he turns into a cat all the time (yes, by kissing, but what caused him to become a cat in the first place). Plus, he told Erina there are probably more of him, changing in animals, and I need to know who is next. I do hope it is NOT a love rival or an enemy, but friends. It would be fun to get to meet another animal shifter in the next volume.
😻 Kitties. You can always make me happy with a book about kitties.
😍 The cover is just so cute! It really shows the traits of the characters (Nekoyama a bit aloof, Erina haughty) and then the cat it all is about in the middle.
🥰 I did like the fact that Nekoyama chooses to be a cat so many times. I guess that is the most comfortable to him? And I guess a free home (yes, he lives with Erina now) is always a good one to have.
😘 I also liked finding out more about Nekoyama, his likes and dislikes.

And oh yes, the art! I really liked the art.

All in all, this was a fun manga that I am definitely interested in on continuing. I want to know more about Nekoyama, see Erina and Nekoyama bond more, see more animal shifters! I would recommend this. Yes, the consent in the start is a bit iffy and there are a few moments that had me scratching my head, but in overall, I am happy!

Cute, funny, and very silly. Initially, I found Nekoyama offputting. However, as the story goes on and you realize how cat-like his behavior is, it becomes more palatable. I'm not completely sold on the romance, but there are enough funny moments that I want to keep reading.

It's kinda silly but also somehow really cute and Funny, especially if you're a cat parent.

(miss me with a potential romance though. I'm here for cute cat antics)
