Each of us has been given one life but when we feel broken or incomplete, is it possible to find love? Would you have the courage to take someone's hand towards a happier tomorrow?
Dani is a confident, outgoing, PR professional without a care in the world, but she is about to find out what can happen in a single moment, when you are in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Fighting to reclaim her confidence; her life; her strength, Dani is encouraged by her friend to take up Krav Maga. Meeting her instructor, Logan, is the first step on a journey that will transform both women's lives in a way neither could have foreseen. This is a slow-burn, lesbian romance where strength, courage, and hope go hand in hand. Because tomorrow will be better than today. This is the first book in the STRONGER YOU Series. Please note this book contains one scene relating to a street mugging, and contains a storyline involving PTSD.
This is a short, to the point, well written story around a difficult topic, PTSD in a woman after an attack and how to get over it.
Both main characters share a traumatic past, Logan has overcome some of it by becoming a self defence instructor, Dani is fresh from the experience and in Logan's beginner class. When Dani panics in class, Logan decides to follow her home to talk to her bout herself and her experience and that actually turns out to be the beginning of Dani's healing. It also is a first for Logan to share her experience and thus Dani, too, becomes a kind of catalyst for Logan to start thinking about her own damage, how she is still seeing herself in a bad light and how that keeps her from findig peace and the courage to open up.
In the end each of them has a different kind of strenght that helps the other to finally heal. A nice satifying read with some hot spicy scenes thrown in.
This book definitely spoke to me. Two women work hard to get past their trauma with the help of a self defence course. Even though trauma is never an easy read, Ruby Scott uses a deft hand to create a safe environment for us, the reader. We understand at our core level the struggles these women face. The beauty of Inside Fighter is the dual first person narrative. It works very well with the storyline to enhance the novel and our reading pleasure. This is book one of the A Stronger You three book series. 5 ⭐️
A good Novella length story, about finding strength after adversity. Learning to fight for yourself, and others. There's some good heat here, too. The right amount of angst and emotion.
I totally loved this book. I was hooked from the beginning right to the end. I loved both Logan and Dani but I would say my favourite from them both would be Logan. Great storyline, great characters and in my opinion this is the authors best book yet. I have read all her books but one (Evergreen) and this blows all the others out the water.
Also, anyone who knows me knows that I don't care for a cover of a book. It could be a plain cover with only the authors name and the name of the book on the front and synopsis (blurb) on the back ... but, this cover is fantastic. I could look at it forever. The book is worth getting for the cover alone.
I look forward to reading more in this series and by the author in the future.
As this was my first time reading this author, I didn't know what to expect when it came to the writing style. The story had its positives that kept me interested. I wouldn't label this as a romance or even a drama. Other than the explicit sex, I don't really know where to place this story. Inside Fighter switches back and forth between the two protagonist's POV's, which I do I like in a book, but I sensed the heart of the story was centered more toward Dani, the victim. After getting attacked and mugged, she withdrew in herself and fell into that trap of despair and paranoia that always follows victim's after they've endured an attack. Once she was persuaded to join a gym for self defense classes we meet Logan, the trainer. Logan, herself, had suffered abuse in the past and it affected her feelings toward committed relationships. When Logan's story was revealed, it felt hollow to me. I didn't feel pain or anguish, unfortunately. It was almost as if Logan's story was slapped together to keep the flow going. We didn't even learn what her abusive exe's name was.
I honestly didn't feel any deep connection with either woman. They both had their problems, but I never really felt like we, the reader, got to scratch beneath the surface and dive deep into their lives and fully immerse ourselves in all the trauma, all the feelings that come with the trauma, and especially all the romantic/sexual feelings they had for one another. Yes, the sex was exquisite, Scott can really amp up the heat, but as for anything deeply emotional, it fell flat for me. There was a ton of inner dialogue and so many questions they kept asking themselves. I'm not even sure a fraction of those questions were ever answered. I couldn't help notice a few fumbles with grammar that threw me off. Scott kept referring to the ground as the floor. I also couldn't help but scratch my head at the part where Dani's friend Beth called a locksmith to change her locks on her apartment door after the attack. In my experience, a tenant cannot legally change the locks on their door if they're renting, that's the superintendent's job. Sorry to be nitpicky.
This wasn't a favourite read, but I will check out the second book in the series. I did like the story, just wish there was more, something deeper to make me want to grasp onto these women and desperately seek their answers with them.
I loved this book! It had me hooked from the start. It may have some triggers for people who have been mugged or attacked. The way that two broken people were able to help each other without knowing it.
This is a very powerful story. Dealing with trauma is not an easy thing. Knowing you need help and accepting it is a first step. I find Dani and Logan very inspiring, they are strong and sensitive. This very well written to help others understand the aftermath of personal trauma. I look forward to reading the other books in the series.
Dani is attacked so she decides to take self defense classes where she meets instructor Logan! They soon learn they have something more in common than attraction! This book is about being brave, getting back up when you get knocked down! It reminds us to never give anyone our power and if we lose that power, to take it back! It’s a blossoming love story that has all the feels, its emotional, sweet, and steamy! A must read!
Ruby never stops to amaze me! This book hit close to home, too close! It meant a lot for me but besides my story or the connection made with the book. I must say that if you enjoy angst and you are looking for an intense, captivating, sweet, empowering, and sexy story (because with Ruby, you will always get sexy and steamy sex scenes), this is a must-read! One more time, Ruby showed us how versatile a writer she is. I have been following her work since her first book, and I must say that you can notice how she has been evolving and when you least expect it, she hits you with books like Evergreen, Inside Fighter, or Love Trauma!
alright, so this is a good book, untill the ending. it just stops. I'm just astonished.
I've read enough books to like sort of understand the beats of story and like structure and all that jazz. this befuddle me. everything came to a close, all the threads tied together nicely yet the story just demanded more.
but, the depiction of ptsd, the following self improvement journey and the healing is honestly pretty beautiful. it's barebones, but in a minimalist painting kind of way. you get enough to fill in the blanks, which is usually good enough for me. I just think would hit you a lot harder with some added details and story.
To avoid spoilers, Dani experiences a traumatic event. While she struggles to get back to “normal”, her best friend talks her into taking a self defense class. That’s where she meets Logan, whose had her own experience with trauma. Throw in some good chemistry and you have a sweet story of two women falling in love while they support and guide each other to their new “normal”.
The story was a fun read, but I found it to be a little flat. I would have loved to have more backstory, more information about Dani and Dani's friends. Also more about Logan and her life before her time at the gym.
Wow what a fantastic storyline this is the first in this series I can't wait for the rest ,the storyline was exceptional it pulls your heart right out the main characters were perfectly believable passionate supportive understanding loving exceptionally written congratulations another must read.
DNF I'm sorry this just wasn't my cup of tea. The wrighting style was good and the story as well I liked the story line, but I just couldn't connect with the characters. Call me a romantic or being too picky when it comes to books, but I just like when they meet and start to build connection and a relationship. In this case they meet there is a connection I guess but Logan than goes to a bar and picks up a hook up and I got slaped with explicit sex scene involving on of the MC's and some random woman. 60% of the book gone and Logan sleeps with the bar girl yet again even tho by this time she feels something for Dani. This just is not romantic plot I like to read about. And wats up with those names a lesbian gym owner named Sapphy, a gym worker named Abs and butch named Logan (don't like it when masculine lesbians get male names like Trent or Shawn). Generaly this book was well written, but personaly it just didn't float my boat :D
Dani experiences a traumatic event one day, which leads her to try out Krav Maga classes with her best friend Beth to learn some self defense, where she meets Logan.
I liked the idea of the novella, but the execution and the writing style not too much. The characters were rather two dimensional. Even when they talked about deeper stuff they lacked essence. The story was predictable. For a romance book there wasn't any romance and they had no chemistry, which can be traced back to them being two dimensional. There was way too much mentioning about everyone catching Uber's all the time and some internal dialogues were a bit too repetitive.
I liked the mental health journey, the self defense classes, the empowerment and that the gym was a story topic.
Two women battling their own demons. After an incident that left Dani feeling vulnerable hired Logan as her personal trainer who teaches Krav Maga. Dani liked Logan but Logan had her own issues. She thought of herself as broken and didn't want someone who thought they could fix her. Each woman because of their connection and support were able to feel more confidant in themselves. Both were able to move forward in their lives. A great story of being beat down and poor self esteem, yet able to triumph in the end.
Beautiful story of two people who need care and love but are scared in their own ways. Dani and Logan complement each other so well, able to provide the other with the tools to find happiness, both within themselves and with each other.
I really enjoyed the writing and the way the story and characters developed throughout. I'm really looking forward to the rest of this series!
An ok read, but not a lot of depth for a topic that is so serious. One of the MCs is mugged, then has the extreme bad luck of it happening a few more times. I didn't feel the connection of the MCs. The sex was pretty steamy. Not great editing either, as one of the chapters said an MCs name when it was clearly the other's POV. Overall it got me through 2 hours of a plane ride.
Being a fan of Ruby Scott I read the 3 'The Stronger You' novels, even tho the covers did not appeal to me. I am against boxing, more so female boxing. This story was more about learning/teaching self defence and the lingering effects of being assaulted. I liked both characters and the way their story was told.
Good story! I really sympathized with Dani and Logan. They both went through really, really tough times. Sometimes it's hard to get past that. Sometimes you never do. But to have someone there who understands and can empathize can mean everything.
Excellent story about the effects of PTSD and overcoming them. Relatable characters and likable. Left me wanting more. I look forward to the second book in the series.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Like the title suggests both Logan and Dani are just that...inside fighters, trying to beat or overcome their demons.
This book needed a good editor, or at least a beta reader who was paying attention, as there were magical plot convenient changes such as one character not owning a car so she had to Uber for a plot point, and then suddenly having one all along somehow? I appreciated the depiction of therapy in this book, but the story overall was often a bit clunky and cliched. We also get absolutely no depiction of Dani’s job or how her experience and trauma are affecting it until quite late in the book, after we’re told she’s not a very good writer when she’s journaling for therapy, only to discover she loves writing and it’s her whole job? Another plot convenient hole. The whole book seems centered on the gym and martial arts classes, which would be fine if there were any real world consequences to all the time Dani is spending there, but it only gets remembered that she has a whole life toward the end. Overall, this book was just okay, but nothing special and I’ll forget it quickly.
