When Celia Krügerner visits her Uncle Dieter’s castle in Switzerland for his annual summer ball, she’s excited to learn that Erin, who she shared an unforgettable dance with the year before, will once again be attending. Although their exchange was brief, Celia’s been unable to stop thinking about the dark and mysterious woman, and she’s determined to make a lasting impression on her this time.
Erin Nour, superyacht designer and avid traveler, has sailed from Bermuda to attend her good friend Dieter’s ball and has donated a vacation on The Barracuda – her pride and joy – to the charity auction held during the event. The long journey was worth it, as she’s not only looking forward to celebrating his recovery from recent ill health but also to seeing his favorite niece, Celia again.
When Dieter places the winning bid, he invites Erin, Celia and his love interest Andy to join him on the yacht. Erin soon finds out that this will be his last voyage and honoring his wishes, she promises to keep the severity of his illness to herself. They embark on a life-altering journey together but with secrets between them, can love prevail?
Lise Gold is an author of lesbian romance. Her romantic attitude, enthusiasm for travel and love for feel good stories form the heartland of her writing. Born in London to a Norwegian mother and English father, and growing up between the UK, Norway, Zambia and the Netherlands, she feels at home pretty much everywhere and has an unending curiosity for new destinations. She goes by 'write what you know' and is often found in exotic locations doing research or getting inspired for her next novel.
Working as a designer for fifteen years and singing semi- professionally, Lise has always been a creative at heart. Her novels are the result of a quest for a new passion after resigning from her design job in 2018.
When not writing from her kitchen table, Lise can be found cooking, at the gym or singing her heart out somewhere, preferably country or blues. She lives in London with her dogs El Comandante and Bubba.
4.5⭐️ – This book is exactly what I’ve come to expect from Lise Gold: nice and kind (but definitely not bland or boring) characters, beautiful descriptions of scenery in all its forms (colours, smells, sounds) that make me feel like I’m the one travelling the world, and hot sex. One of the reasons I’m always looking forward to Gold’s books is that she’s consistent: they’re either excellent or, at least, very good. And it never feels as if she’s writing the same story over and over. She definitely has a style of stories and characters she enjoys writing but each book brings something new.
A year wasn’t enough for Celia to forget those five minutes spent in Erin’s arms on the dance floor at her uncle Dieter’s summer ball. Celia can’t wait to find out whether Erin was as affected by these precious moments as she was and if anything more will happen when they meet again. As soon as they’re back in each other’s presence, the chemistry is just as explosive as they remember. When Dieter invites them to join him on a journey to Bermuda on a yacht (Erin’s yacht), their relationship goes from zero to sixty in half a second. Instalust grows into something deeper, something that may not be strong enough yet to withstand a secret Erin is holding.
Blue is on the longer side, which gives the characters’ journey time to develop, both literally – at sea – and in the manner emotions are built up. Some chapters end a bit abruptly but overall, the pace is good, lingering when needed, to indulge in the scenery, fast at other times. The secondary characters are well-fleshed, especially Dieter, Celia’s uncle and Erin’s friend. His boyfriend Andy is less of a cliché than he appears to be, and even Celia’s greedy mother is more complex than she seems.
In Lise Gold’s books, the drama, the angst doesn’t come from miscommunication or other artificial situations. Life itself is full of twists and hurdles which the characters face together. Challenging times bring them closer. Gold excels at telling these everyday stories, bringing out the hidden sparks, the small things that make them extraordinary. What Celia and Erin go through could happen to anyone. What makes their story special isn’t so much the fact that money isn’t an issue (even if it doesn’t hurt), it’s the way Gold tells it, how she makes the reader feel for them. With Erin and Dieter to guide her, Celia goes from content and a little bored to radiant, and watching her bloom, despite the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding her journey, is exciting and heartwarming.
I received a copy from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a solid story by Lise Gold. I was prepared to cry my heart out but instead of a heartwrenching story, this turned out to be a poignant and beautiful one.
Celia's Uncle Dieter has terminal cancer and his final wish is to spend the remaining months travelling the world with the people closest to him. He gets his chance when he successfully bids for a vacation on a superyacht at a charity auction and invites Celia, his best friend Erin and his lover Andy to join him on his journey to Bermuda. As only Erin is aware of his illness from the start, the mood doesn't start to dip until later. The four have a lot of fun experiencing different cultures and enjoying the sights and the sounds and because Gold is such a good writer, I had a lot of fun listening too. When the characters eventually find out the truth, death as a theme is looked at from different angles - the reactions, questions, grief, acceptance - and it becomes all too real. But because it was dealt with so well, my heart didn't shatter to pieces when the time came.
I learnt a lot about the characters because they really do talk to one another on the trip and the relationships develop. Not just the romantic one between Celia and Erin, but also their friendship with Andy and Dieter. I love the romance between Celia and Erin. Definitely an insta-lust. It has a fairytale beginning - they shared one dance at a ball and left an impression on each other but didn't keep in contact until a year later at another ball when things start getting hot and heavy. And then the vacation takes place immediately after. Their romance is extremely passionate and there is plenty of erotic sex and it's oh, so steamy.
This is my first time with the narrator and I must say that TJ Richards did an incredible job conveying all the emotions. I particularly love the way Erin sounds.
This audiobook was given to me for free at my request and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I put this down at about a quarter in and haven't been able to pick it back up. Some of that is that the wish fulfillment fantasy at its center makes it hard to relate. But then we get to a piece where Celia's uncle asks her to keep his secret from Erin, assuring Celia that it won't be a big deal. So Celia is putting Erin off on the immense emotional pain she is in and making excuses and it feels like it's a setup for a landmine later in the story.
These wouldn't be problems if I were more engaged with the characters. I lost a lot of that with the interruption to their finally getting together from Celia being a doormat to her mother's emotional manipulation. That started the ball rolling, I think.
But maybe not? I'm not entirely sure if I'm not covering for my reluctance by inventing reasons to be disengaged. I think the secret keeping is the big one. It has been a bit since I put it down, so I'm guessing. Which makes me really reluctant to rate this. So I'm not going to...
This book has some great reviews and that’s what had convinced me to read it. After about 20% I was already very confused as to why this book has good ratings. I figured it must get a lot better, it doesn’t. I kept checking if I was almost done reading it, I couldn’t wait to finish it or for it to get better. That being said, there are some stellar reviews for this one but it just didn’t click for me. The characters, the storyline, it just didn’t work for me.
Oh, Lise Gold. Damn, you're good. This is one of my new favorites of hers. Gold's books are completely unique and the locations often feel like one of the main characters in her stories. I always feel like I've been there - or at least have gotten a real glimpse of what being in these places might be like. If you follow her on social media, you know that Gold travels extensively and it's apparent with the exquisite details she provides in her novels. Because this story takes place largely during a weeks-long superyacht trip to exotic locations, it was a thrill to experience that along with the multiple love stories at the heart of the book. It's not just a passionate love affair between two exciting and gorgeous women that we get in this work, but the love between an uncle and niece, the love of a man and his lover and the love between friends and family. The instant chemistry between the two MC's - Celia and Erin - is off the charts hot. Gold just skirts the edge of erotica with this one and the encounters between them are delicious. But it's not just about sex - though the physical attraction is what initially brings the two women together. The development of their relationship isn't rushed and is oh-so-satisfying to watch play out. I find stories about the super wealthy fascinating as it's completely outside of my experience. While the family home is a castle and one of the MCs both designs and owns a superyacht, they are good, caring, likable characters. I love that we have a lesbian romance set in this environment! If a very moving, very sexy story that transports you to faraway places sounds appealing, I certainly recommend this one!
This one didn't blow me away like some of Ms. Gold's other books. It was emotional yes, and the scenery was interesting and colourful, and I did find myself Googling places I had not heard of before. The main premise has the characters sailing from the Mediterranean down the north coast of Africa, and over the Atlantic towards Bermuda. We find out pretty early on one of them is dying and this is his final trip, so you know it's gonna be an emotional ride.
The MCs had a ton of chemistry from page 1, and I truly liked the twist that they had met the year previous and had one dance at an annual party, then couldn't shake the connection for an entire year, leading them to seek out one another again the following year. Neat! However, Ms. Gold touched upon almost too many destinations on the long yacht journey, my eyes started to glaze over and I had to force myself not to skim. I think that became a tad annoying because the characters lacked depth and didn't have much oomph. I was itching for more, and would have much rather had more details and backstory to the MCs Celia and Erin, and way less scrabble games with irritating secondary Andy. Uncle Dieter was cool though.
Even though there are a lot of emotions at play as well as a major illness that tugged at the heart strings, this was just ok for me. 3.25/5.
Perhaps it is best to start at the beginning. I knew even after only very few pages, that I was going to love this book. The more I read, the more I loved it, even though there was a short moment, when I asked myself, if there was going to be enough plot, as the sizzeling hot passion between the two ladies was almost overwhelming and I am not a real fan of romances, that really are nothing but erotica (not to say porn in really bad cases).
So far I have only read one author, Lise Gold, who can really pull it of and put in as many intimate scenes, as you find here, and still keep them becoming more and more love making than just passionate sex, while ramping up your interest in the plot at the same time. I have certainly gained a new favourite Author. Her writing is more than just entertaining, it simply is inspiring!
Even though I bought “The Scent of Rome” and “Living”, that I read on Kindle unlimited, as paperbacks for re-reads in future, I hesitated to buy “Blue” outright as a book from the start, and I now regret that decision. I really should have read it nicely wrapped up in my robe on the sofa rather than on the laptop screen with Kindle Cloud Reader. So I’ll order it tomorrow for a second reading. Thank you, Lise Gold, for another wonderful experience. I’ll not make that same mistake again with your next book.
The read is as close to a spiritual experience, as doing what the main characters did in the story, as their experiences come very vividly to life. This really is romance at its best. I love the way travelling experiences about finding different cultures are thrown into the mix, as well as the very life like descriptions of the scenes and feelings of sailing along a coastline or across the sea, when no land is in sight any more. I grew up with boats and the North Sea, even violent Storms and winds that are strong enough to blow you off your feet. I can so understand the crew of the Barracuda and, naturally, Erin. Also, it was lovely to read, how Celia slowly found her sailor’s feet.
So, yes, this book spoke to me on so many levels, a lesbian romance, non sexual love between friends and a family of chosen people, rather than those you were saddled with through birth, all of that made it an absolutely fabulous read.
4 Stars for a really nice solid romance, 5 Stars for a glimpse of the lifestyles of the rich and... well, rich
Very likable characters all around from the MC's to the supporting characters. I loved getting the visit all the exotic locations and taking a vacation on a super yacht (yes please!). Most of the drama is supplied outside the relationship. The small dark moment makes sense and doesn't last long.
For me Lise Gold has yet to write a bad book. This one is really good, low angst.
A wonderful and stunning story! Beautifully written, with beautiful characters, in a beautiful setting, with a beautiful lesson about living life to the full! Truly incredible.
I loved all the characters; Erin was my gorgeous eye-candy (she's a mature, butch, sexy captain of a ridiculously extravagant superyacht, don't @ me!) and Dieter was such a joy, his constant happiness so refreshing in the face of what's to come. Andy was also very special in his own way, and Celia was such a sweetheart.
I've read Online by Madeleine Taylor before, but this was my first by Lise Gold, and I can't wait to read another. The Scent of Rome is already on my Kindle and I look forward to reading that one.
I think everyone (Erin, Celia, Dieter, and Andy) will stay in my heart for a while <3 Highly recommend!
Celia and Erin met a year ago at a fundraiser that Celia’s uncle hosted. After sharing a dance, they were both instantly attracted to each other but it they were with other people. A year has passed and they are back at the fundraiser this time they are on their own, neither willing to pass up a chance to see if the magic they shared is still there. When Uncle Dieter bids on and wins the vacation on Erin’s yacht he invites the two women to join him. Promise is in the air but there are secrets at play that have the potential to destroy the fragile bond they share.
I LOVED this book!!! It was fantastic! So well written, it is impossible not to be impressed. The premise is lovely and the execution flawless. There are so many rich and in-depth details about the different countries and settings that take place in this story. I felt like I was there. I could almost see, feel and hear them all. I fell in love with these women as well. They are so perfect for each other and their chemistry is electric. Not all is sunshine and roses in this drama and Ms Gold will make you feel the sorrow every bit as much as the joy. This is the perfect book for an escape from reality and one you won’t be able to forget!
If you like books about egotistical, manly women; this is the book for you.
In glancing through the reviews for this; wondering why it is rated so high. I see that there are at least a dozen fake 5-star reviews. Now it makes sense.
This is the best I have read from this author. The story flowed like quick silver, the humour was pure joy and the sex oh boy. The author described the various places they visited with such honesty and beauty. A good read by any means.
3.8 star rating I am a fan of this Author's books so figured this will be another great story to end my year with. This is a story of an Uncle whose life will be ending soon and did not wait on wishes but acted to make his remainder moments fulfilling his own wishes. Now within these wishes lies a matchmaking act that actually worked. Ordinarily the story's concept is heartwarming but I felt disconnected on some occasions i.e. descriptions of the opulence and the descriptions of the sights of their travel especially those on the African continent. In the former I think the descriptions got me bored and on the latter I felt the choice and manner of the subjects described weren't sufficient.
Very well written but it didn’t grab me. The main characters are very kind and nice. Good side characters and picturesque locations. If you like all the good feels without any angst then you will love this book. I guess I like a bit more turmoil.
I'm not very good at writing reviews. And I won't give any spoilers, as I want you to read this book. It's uplifting and heartbreaking at the same time. It’s a great love story. It's a story of developing and deeply enduring friendships. Just read it! You'll love it and it will stay with you for a long time. Great job, Lise Gold!
The whole journey was so touching and beautiful, my heart ached with the hand uncle Dieter was dealt with and everyone else by association. It's impossible not to feel the ups and downs they go throughout the story.
What I love most about Lise Gold is that she doesn't let (when there is) drama between MC drag. The angst levels are almost inexistent, apart from the ones related to other characters, and little friction that happens here or there is in a way realistic, no OTT; her characters aren't perfect, you can tell that, but most of them behave as mature as one would expect of them, and I'm all for that.
Of course I couldn't not talk about the chemistry between Celia and Erin oozing out of the book, or Kindle if you will, my goodness these two were just out of this world. Sexy time was so hot, damn! And executed in a way that added to the depth of their connection (not that I mind otherwise either haha), it's not just lustful actions to warm the reader's room (even though it manages well to do that lmao)
Jae's Sapphic Reading Challenge: Road Trip - I'm counting a yacht voyage here Character is a business owner
I don't know how Lise Gold manages to write such compelling stories over and over. Blue did not disappoint. It hits some interesting notes on life, love, and death. During the pandemic, it was nice to read a traveling story. I felt like I went on a voyage myself with the sun rays shining off the blue ocean water.
Although Gold writes erotic stories under a pen name, there were some (ok a lot) of HOT scenes in this story.
I really liked the premise of the book and it was enjoyable to read, but I have to say it wasn't my favorite book from the author. I think I came with high expectations, because Living was one of the best books I've read and this one seemed really good. It's a good book, very emotional, but I think something was missing, I'm just not sure of what exactly. But since I was the one expecting so much of it, it deserves 4 stars.
Lovely, meandering sapphic love story. The writing is solid, the characters are well drawn and dimensional. The author covers a lot of ground in the story in a brief amount of time for the characters. A good deal of the story takes place as a luxurious yacht takes the four central characters and the ship's crew on a cruise along the North and Western coast of Africa. It makes the settings very interesting and adds great storytelling opportunities. While the book could drag in some spots and is repetitive, there is a lot to like here. The chemistry between Celia and Erin bolsters the whole book and gets your attention just when you think you might be tuning out.
Just a beautiful story about 2 women falling in love in a very special period. Nothing more, Nothing less. Very well written of course, as to be expected from Lise Gold.
Want to read a solid romance - pick up Blue. Lise Gold is a talented writer who publishes several books each year and they still remain interesting with lovely MCs and well written. 4.25 stars
Maravilloso
Celia Krügerner cannot wait to attend her Uncle Dieter’s annual summer ball. It will be held in her uncle's castle in Switzerland, where she used to spend her summer holidays, and found solace after her father's death. But what excites Celia more is that Erin will be attending the ball. They had instant chemistry and an unforgettable dance the previous year. Even though it was short-lived as both were in relationships at the time, Celia is determined to make their next encounter last longer.
Erin Nour designs superyacht and has donated a trip to the Bahamas on her pride and joy – The Barracuda – to the charity auction at her dear friend Dieter’s Summer ball. She was looking forward to seeing her friend Dieter, but what excited her, even more, was to see his favourite niece again, Celia.
At the charity auction, it was Dieter who outbid everyone for Erin’s donated trip. Dieter invites Erin, Celia, and Andy to join him on this journey. Erin soon discovers that this will be Dieters last voyage and promises to keep the severity of his illness a secret and to make this journey unforgettable. Will love bloom in the shadow of secrets?
Lise Gold has this amazing ability to describe places so accurately that it feels as if you are there. You can Google these places to see how accurate the author's descriptions are. It is mind-blowing. If you love travelling, art, romance, and some tragedy this book will be for you. Blue left me wishing I could meet a super-hot Superyacht designer of my own…
What a fantastic story and read this was a story about mainly about four people. There is Dieter an art collector and owns a castle , his present partner Andy is a lot younger and quite flamboyant. Then there is Celia whose is his niece and runs her own business in New York and finally there is Erin who designs Yachts for the wealthy. Dieter is holding his annual ball and auction for charity. Celia and Erin had met the year before but both had brought partners at the time . Dieter had a secret and only Erin knew about it. Erin had brought one of her yacht to it and was auctioned it as a holiday of a lifetime.Celia hoped that Erin came and Erin hoped the same. This story covers love, dying, travel ,anger, death and. much more. Lisa Gold (author) did a brilliant job of writing this book and story. She covered so much yet kept the story flowing throughout from start to the end. She is one of the best and gets better with each book she writes. Rated 5++ stars and highly recommended . Definitely a book worth a read.
