Fluffy has a hard time with making friends. Every time she meets someone, KABOOM! They explode. Why, you may ask? It is because Fluffy is just so cute. Fluffy does not want to hurt people. She even tries to escape to space- but even the aliens aren't safe from Fluffy's cuteness. And an ugly sweater only makes her cuter. Is there anywhere on Earth that Fluffy can hide her cuteness? For fans of "Hamsters Make Terrible Roommates", a story about an unusual challenge, and a humorous expedition into the unknown. ~Tiffany J.
Yes, Fluffy McWhiskers was so cute that if you saw her … you’d explode.
Which, if you think about it, kinda ups the danger level of reading this book.
It’s a lonely existence when no one lives long enough to be your friend. Fluffy goes to extreme lengths to save potential victims but nothing seems to work. Is she destined to be alone forever?
I am so conflicted. I don’t know whether to tell you that I laughed at the absurdity of this book or how ashamed I feel for finding a massacre of cutie patooties amusing. Granted, they were very pretty rainbow explosions, but so many adorable animals (many of which I found cuter than Fluffy) died explodey deaths all over the pages.
I do have one question. If even seeing Fluffy’s photo in a newspaper is a death sentence, then how did the photographer and the rest of the newspaper staff survive long enough to publish that edition of the Animal Times?
Be on the lookout out for the Piggy Bank and Pizza Sloth Express.
An explosion of colorful cat cuteness wreaks havoc wherever Fluffy McWhiskers appears. She tries to stop the Kabooms by changing her appearance and traveling afar. Then she meets ... Read the book and you can find out. How can you not a love this fluffy purple kitten? 4.5 stars.
Okay, so… this was hilarious in the driest of ways. Kids will love it. But oh man, so many animals (and aliens) literally explode in this book. Explode in clouds of rainbow colors, yes, but they’re not, like, turning into rainbows—they’re just straight-up dying. This cat could be used in warfare. But it’s okay, because she finds a single creature who doesn’t think she’s cute, and they live on an island for the rest of their lives, playing volleyball with coconuts.
It’s weird. And funny. Just let me process this one for a while.
I did not explode. If anything exploded, it was my boredom level and my trepidation that my mom-in-law (sitting on the other side of Mister) would think that I had absolutely NO taste in brilliant children's books. This was terrifyingly terrible. Sure the cat was fluffy and had big eyes. Big deal. The dog was ugly. Zero cuteness.
When I FINALLY finished this hot mess of a book, my mom-in-law and I looked at each other, and said, "Wow." And that was that, thankfully. Even Mister, who is an easy-going audience, looked at us, and said, "I don't like that kitty 'sploding book. That was not nice."
Important note: I am very much a cat person. But this is even worse than that recent litter box dropping of a book Itty-Bitty Kitty-Corn.
Ugh. Just ugh.
This is the sort of thing a pair of 9 year old boys would write together, rolling on the floor because they thought it was funny. And I suppose 9 year old boys WOULD find this funny. It's that kind of a book.
I melted ... and giggled! Love this book. I took the exploding part as part of the fun, not actual blowing up of people and animals and Martians. It was presented in such a way you know they weren't blown to smithereens.
Amazingly cute. I loved the story, loved the illustrations, and the surprise ending made me laugh out loud...literally. People were walking by asking me what happened. Bravo. Great for story times or just before bed stories. Bravo!
I don't know about exploding, but I did laugh out loud. And I do know a dog who this book would be perfect for if he could read or even sit still to listen instead of lolling on his back being fluffy and cute.
I'll admit. The idea of creatures exploding does sound rather violent and dismal, but that's a concern to quickly shove aside. This is a quirky, fun, and super cute tale about friendship and learning to like ones self...it's just told in a very different an unexpected way.
Fluffy is super, amazingly, adorably cute and has a very fitting name. She kind, sweet and friendly, but nobody ever gets that far with her, since they take one glance in her direction and explode into sparkle and fireworks. Very pretty and dynamic but horrible on the friendship end.
A fuzzy ball of fluffiness best describes Fluffy, but it's the reaction others have to her that will make younger readers surprised, giggle and smile...maybe with a bit of raised eyebrows, but laughter is hard to keep in. If Fluffy took joy in this, the tale, obviously, wouldn't work, but in this story, poor Fluffy really isn't okay with this but has no idea how to stop it. She really feels bad about it, wishes it would stop, and takes huge steps to change the situation, which make it pull at the heart strings even more.
It's easy to connect with Fluffy, especially since she really is kind and sweet. But what I really enjoy is that it shows that being marked as 'super' or 'cute' or 'great' doesn't always mean that a person will find great friends. True friendship doesn't work that way, and this tale is a clever, cute way to address that...while building in more than a few funny moments. I received an ARC copy.
Fluffy McWhiskers is a very cute kitten. In fact, she is so cute, that anyone who looks at her explodes! Will Fluffy ever find friendship that doesn't end in a loud boom?
This is a super silly picture book that captures the humor of classic Warner Bros. cartoons. FLUFFY will be enjoyed by anyone who loves the wacky, off-the-wall humor of books such as CRASH, SPLASH, OR MOO! and LLAMA DESTROYS THE WORLD.
A cat is so cute that whenever anyone looks at it they explode. So he moves to an island so no one else explodes. Then he meets a dog, and apparently he has the same problem, but they don't explode when they look at each other, but they explode an entire ship of other animals.
I thought this book was violent and unintelligent.
Fluffy McWhiskers is so cute that any who look at her explode from her cuteness! It's a silly premise that is a bit violent if you think about it too much, but who can look past those eyes? When the explosions get out of control, Fluffy goes to an island to be all by herself, but being alone is hard for petting and games. Thankfully, there's an extremely cute (debatable as a cat person) who might be the perfect companion. Better not look at this book too long! Tavis' illustrations are a perfect match for this story.
Well...Fluffy McWhiskers is cute, yes, but my kitty Gizmo is much cuter...and was cuter still when he was a kitten (he's now four). So, like Westley in Princess Bride growing immune to the deadly effects of Iocane Powder, I have grown immune to the deadly effects of extreme cuteness as I am exposed to it on the daily. So needless to say, I did not explode at any point while reading this. I still enjoy cuteness, though. And cute kittens are the best sort.
From a professional standpoint: Not sure what the point of this story was. And not sure it has any literary merit (no Pulitzer for you, Fluffy Mc-W). But it's a cute story. And maybe that's all that's needed.
Fluffy McWhiskers is so adorable everyone explodes when they see them, Kaboom!
This was such a fun and cute book. Very colorful and fun illustrations! The story was entertaining and had me turning page after page to see what would come next.
