I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Kawaii Kitties is a step by step drawing book to create Kawaii kitties. This book contains about 72 step by step tutorials on how to draw these cute kitties, however I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. The book didn't seem to have as much variety as I was expecting it to have. I would have thought dividing the book into starting out through to more and more advanced drawings of the kitties would have been more interesting, but if your a child or an absolute beginner to drawing and sketching then this book is probably more for you.

I expected to like this drawing book more than I actually did. I love the cover, but the inside is just lots and lots of step by step drawings of what mostly looks like the same fat cat blob in slightly different poses and with different coloring.

The cats all have mostly the same shape and faces. The faces are a little weird to me. For some reason they all have two dots over their eyes and no whiskers. A lot of the cats honestly looked more like hamsters to me. I would have loved more variety in them since IRL cats really do come in all kinds of shapes and sizes (I guess for kawaii they have to just be round?). There's only so many ways you can draw mostly identical cats so there are chapters of things like cats in animal costumes or with a tie and a briefcase. I guess I just don't need to draw that many shapeless cats cheerleading or with fish tails.

I did appreciate the chapter on other breeds so there was finally some difference in them, but the drawings are just here's this part of this wavy shape you draw, and then you do this wavy shape, and then you do the face. Shrug. It's okay, but you could easily just look at the cover and follow the basic shapes to do it all on your own.

There are other books that have been a much better fit for me personally, but I seem to be in the minority so obviously it's the right fit for many. It's still a very nice book, three stars for me, for I liked it.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

Sooo cute! 😻
The book is divided into 7 sections. Each one of them is focused on different topics, such as "being curious", "playtime", and so on. There are 75 step-by-step tutorials total. They're clearly explained, therefore, very easy to follow.

There are, also, some comics (cute illustrations of cats doing + nice/funny messages) between chapters.

Absolutely adorable! Perfect for cat lovers and/or people who like cute kitties (such as Pusheen the cat) and want to learn how to draw cats in this style.

Thanks to Quarto Publishing Group – Rock Point and NetGalley for providing me with an e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

This is a great and fun book, but with my poor artistic skills, I truly made some kitty abominations on paper. Even Olive Yong can’t help me. At least I had a good time!

I received a copy from Quarto Publishing Group – Rock Point through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve been following Olive on Instagram for a while now, so was very excited to read this book! The opening introduces you to Olive and how her art social media platforms, Bichi Mao, were born. Then there’s a quick explanation on kawaii and what it entails, what mediums she prefers to draw in, and how one can use this book.

From there, we dive straight into learning simple drawing techniques! The techniques are broken up into chapters starting with how to draw cats in the same style, facial expressions, and in different positions. There’s also chapters dedicated to clothing, different cat breeds, and so on. At the end, there’s a few coloring pages for people with a physical copy of the book to practice coloring in the cats.

While I do think this is a fun and cute book, I think that people looking to learn how to draw might be disappointed when it comes to coloring the cats. The section on coloring is a single page and not informative, so I can see kids and anyone new to drawing getting frustrated. Otherwise, I think it is a cute book with simple and easy drawing techniques that won’t overwhelm people new to drawing. Plus, it’s great way for fans to support the artist.

Kawaii Kitties: Learn How to Draw 75 Cats in All Their Glory by Olive Yong is such a fun book!! I love how it’s all broken down step by step line by line how to draw each of these cute cats. All the different cat illustrations are great and some are really unique such as a burger cat! Right away as soon as I looked in the book I got my pen and started drawing some cats. I drew a fat mad cat and it turned out pretty good for my fists attempt. I’m excited to continue using this book and draw some more cats!

Thank you to Rock Point via NetGalley for my advance review copy!

Easy to follow instructions. I realized after the fact that I definitely had a theme in the ones I tested out, going with “The Box Tester”, “The Snoozer” and “The Dozer” as my first three. My test sketch issues were with me/my skill level and not the instructions.

I just love cats, I just love kawaii, I just love drawing. Or well, I used to draw a lot. But these days a bit less as I just got other hobbies. But whenever I see a book like this? I just cannot resist and have to get it.

This one shows you how to draw 75 kitties! From Catgo (dango kitty) to The Foodie to The Lucky Cat to The Chewer. There are many adorable and cute cats and I was regularly aww-ing and oooh-ing and laughing as well because some of these kitties were doing some funny things. I loved the variety in all the kitties. The author/artist really did an amazing job.
The book is separated into themes, we first begin with basics (facial expressions and colourings and more) and then follow various themes like food, playtime, etc.. I loved that each theme had a cute cat comic/illustration!

The drawing instructions are very easy to follow. Easy little steps.

I love the kitty colouring pages at the end! Definitely want to print that one out and get colouring.

All in all, this was just tons of fun. I haven’t tried to draw kitties yet, as I just don’t have any drawing paper around, but as soon as I do I have a couple of kitties I want to revisit and draw. Or try to. 😛 I would definitely recommend it to all the cat lovers and/or all those who like to draw some cuties.

**I received and voluntarily read an e-ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**

I'm not an artist, but I like to try out drawing books in my spare time.

The book is as advertised, step by step tutorials on how to draw cute kitties. Overall, I had hoped for a little more variety (most of the drawings turn out identical), but it's a nice book.

To start with, I’ve taken drawing classes and I do not have drawing talent.

Each design is broken into quite a few steps which is great for a beginner.
My kitten drawings are not as cute as the ones in the book yet, but the are recognizable as kitties. With just a few days of practice, they are getting better.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the free copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Cute, short book that shows you how to draw lovely "chonky" bean-shaped cats. It's true - they're Kawaii Kitties. Not a lot in terms of different styles of cats (although Yong does cover some varied breeds) but if you want to learn how to draw a cute angel kitty or a kitty in a cappuccino mug, this is it.

Learn to draw soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of fur kitty …

Posted on February 16, 2021 by michellelovatosbookreviews, world's first book color commentator, book reviews with a twist

Olive Yong is the queen of cute. And her new Kawaii Kitties: Learn How to Draw 75 Cats in All Their Glory, is to-die-for adorable.
Yong, who is also the popular Instagram artist, Bichi Mao, showcases her talent for creating cute by offering lessons in how to draw darling kitties in 75 different positions.
It’s diabetic coma sweet.
Let me tell you! Anyone who sits down with this book for 10 minutes cannot help but come out the other end with a smile. It doesn’t matter if learning to draw these delightful creatures is your ultimate goal. Just watching Yong move through the process of creating this charming series is enough to light up any burned-out smile.
But for beginning artists, this book is even better.
Crack the pages of this beginner drawing title and find chapter after chapter of easy-to-master, cute as a pinch on the cheeks, kitties in all their animated glory.
Yong shares her easy techniques for playing kitties, curious kitties, kitties caught sharing their furry love and so many other animated personality situations.
Readers – or should I say, artists – can draw kitties playing dress up, eating their latest meal, and just being themselves.
This is hours of fun in a book and worth every cent its publisher charges to buy it.
Now that I’ve extolled the wonders of this fabulous feline fantasy, it’s time for meow to put on my whiskers, grab my colored pencils and draw.

Kawaii Kitties is an adorable tutorial drawing guide for all ages by Olive Yong. Due out 23rd Feb 2021 from Quarto on their Rock Point imprint, it's 144 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.

There is a sweetly whimsical innocence about these kitties which just brings the smiles. There are 75 step by step tutorials with kitties doing adorable kitty things as well as fantasy kitties (mermaid kitty, cheering kitty, kitties in costumes - so many kitties). The tutorials are arranged thematically: general introduction with basic tutorials, playtime, daily activities, being curious, playing dress up, sharing love, discovering breeds, bon appetit, and some coloring pages.

The tutorials are very simply written with small achievable steps for a surprisingly detailed finish. I am a beginner with drawing and I was able to achieve credible results with these tutorials. They're a lot of fun to do. I would heartily recommend this one for gift giving (perhaps bundled with a sketch pad and some pens/markers?), library, classroom or makers' group. I would also recommend this book to babysitters, grandparents, parents, and basically anyone who spends a fair bit of time with small kids in order to up their 'draw with me' game.

Five stars. A truly happy book.

Super cute! Exactly what I look for in a drawing book. I don't really like drawing so I lean toward the easy drawing books. This is perfect for that. It's got lots of step by step instructions to make it easy even for non-drawers. The author goes through a quick list of supplies, which are very few really a pencil and paper should cover you mostly. She takes you through body types and facial expressions. She includes some info on coloring. Then it's pose after pose after pose, and it really gives you a good idea of how to pose cats. These are kawaii cute cats, so it's not like you will know how to draw a lifelike cat by the end, but honestly, they look like cats, so if you draw them, people will say yep that's a cat, and that's a perfect skill level for me!

Going through it a second time was even more fun! Can't wait to try these all out. The best ones are the catosaurus, the unimeow (cat as a unicorn or I guess you could call that a caticorn), and the accountcat (cat as an accountant). One cat says, "The more you weigh, the harder you are to kidnap. Stay safe. Eat cake." There are such great ones that make you chuckle and some even laugh out loud. Cats, cuteness, and chuckling! Great combination!

Kawaii Kitties is a book full of ideas to assist you in drawing your own kitties. It's a great introduction book for those wishing to begin to draw those cute kawaii images.

The Introduction explains what Kawaii is, explains how to use the book and what tools are required. It then begins with basic body, head, leg and arm shapes and provides details and arrow directions for drawing the shape along with space to practise yourself. Next it shows you were to place the facial features and provides a table of the different facial expression that could be drawn. Also included is a colour palette.

The book provides 75 drawings for you to follow to with the kitties being playful, doing daily activities, being curious, playing dress-up, sharing love, different breeds and food Each drawing comes with plenty of steps to make up the image alongside a description of the shape and its purpose. There are single kitties, others are pairs and some come with objects or as food.

At the rear of the book are 25 images that are fully drawn that could be coloured in.

I received this book from Netgalley in return for a honest review.

I recently became a cat person when we brought two kittens into our home last year. I also love the cuteness of kawaii, so I was excited to check out this book. The author has her own personal style with the roundness and type of face she gives her kitties. Each pose the author demonstrates has its own step-by-step directions and illustrations. It's very effective as a guided drawing that would be achievable by pre-teens on up as they are pretty simple. The ideas are very fun and cute, with the expressions of the cats coming through. I would have liked a greater variety in shapes of cats rather than just poses, especially since my cats are not very fluffy or overly round. I understand that's part of the aesthetic but I don't think my cats would be recognizable in this style.

Kawaii Kitties is as cute as it is useful! I downloaded the ebook version of this book and my 12 and 13 year old daughters and I adored it, both for learning to draw Kawaii style cats and just for reading and enjoying the cuteness and humour. I especially loved the Bon Appétit chapter which contains delicacies like kitty macaron, corn cat and catuccino! It has step by step instructions that make it easy for even left-brained people like me to learn to draw. I asked my daughters if they would like to buy a hard copy of this book once it's released and they gave me an enthusiastic YES! We would also like to check out some of Olive Yong's other books.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Rock Point for allowing me to read a copy of the ebook in exchange for an honest review.

This is a fun little book! It has good ideas for drawing cute cats doing all sorts of things. You can use it as the basis for your own drawings as it has line drawing instructions (and some written instructions too) for different faces, shapes, poses and settings. There's also a section for specific breeds, and a little colouring-in section at the end.

I'm no artist, but managed to draw a few little kitties using the outlines provided - they were actually recognisable! I particularly liked the "Mermeow", the "Huggers", the "Family" and (bizarrely!) the "Kitty Cheeseburger" - found in the true Kawaii-style section.

This would be a great book to keep your kids entertained - either with you drawing the kitties, or your kids doing their own versions!

My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC. All opinions my own.

El libro a pesar de ser corto y muy claro, es decir, es en pocas palabras como una guia para dibujar gatitos super kawai que estan gorditos y con expresiones que los dejaran derritiendose y es que a pesar de contener una serie de pasos...

Free netgalley book for review~. 3.5 ⭐️~⬆️ This is a cute book! Very simple art, but that’s the challenge. How much can you say with minimal lines and easy shapes? The book doesn’t go into details about coloring or shading, but the artist shows a small complete image with every cat, so you have some ideas to use if you need them.

If you like doodling, adorable art, cats and you are a beginner/need some hand holding this book is purrfect for you.

I was looking forward to the food and cat section toward the end but I definitely preferred the other sections in the book to this one.

As for the coloring pages, there are only two in the very back. You could make copies of these pages or use tracing paper to transfer the design. 🐈 🐈‍⬛

Kawaii is a style of art that is adorable and endearing, whatever its subject. That said, those who love cats are certain to enjoy this title. It features felines at play, being curious, eating and more. Those who spend time with this book will learn how to draw many delightful cats. Each of them, as for example, the observer or the runner is broken down into easy to follow steps for making one’s own drawing. The book even includes a couple coloring pages at the end. Plus, I enjoyed the cartoons. All in all, a great resource for cat doodlers.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

5/5 educational art book. Identifying as definitely not an art person, Kawaii Kitties: Learn How to Draw 75 Cats in All Their Glory's instructions were easy to grasp, and I was easily able to draw a good number of cats throughout the time I read through it. I put the book as one of my monthly challenges, so it's a good avenue to draw 2-3 cats a day throughout a given month.

Kawaii Kitties was just the book I was looking for. I've been getting into digital art recently, and I adore cats, so this was the perfect book at the perfect time.
The layout and presentation were gorgeous. There were a wide range of cats to draw, in various poses, set out in chapters such as 'Daily Activities,' 'Being Curious,' 'Discovering breeds,' and 'Bon Appétit.'
The instructions on how to draw various cats were super easy to follow. I've had a lot of fun drawing my own kawaii kitties, and look forward to drawing more.
This is the perfect gift for those who love cats, and those who love to draw.

In the last years I tried to expand my skills and knowledge in the field of drawing. For the month of November, I did my best - clumsily, still enjoying the process - to learn how to draw funny Mini Kawaii Kities. At the first sight, was almost sure that will fail - I am not so good at representing both animals and humans - but with some smart tutorials and visual directions, I was able to complete my first Kawaii stories. It is easy and fun and I owe the results mostly to this book.
It is recommended to beginners and mid-level drawing lovers, both children and their parents.

Kawaii Kitties is just as cute as its name suggests. This book is beautifully presented and features a huge range of cute cats, each broken down step-by-step so you can draw them yourself. The range of expressions is fun, and there are even some pre-drawn cats at the back for you to colour. This is a great book for the artistic cat lover, whether you are looking to decorate your bullet journal, draw handmade greetings cards, or simply sketch your favourite animal for fun.

Thank you to NetGalley and Rock Point for the chance to review this title!

I'm teaching myself how to draw this year and so I've been looking at art books; if you're looking to learn how to draw cats this is definitely a really helpful resource. It covers basic sketches to movement tips as well as kitty-food! The author gives you super clear instructions on each new pose.

As someone who doesn't know how to draw, at all, I found the instructions to be easy enough to follow. I've already pre-ordered the title, I'll definitely be keeping this as a resource and reference!
