This political thriller opens with young Michael Thorley Jr. perusing his late father’s belongings. An early insight into Michael Thorley Senior not only creates vivid connections to his military past, but also encourages suitable intrigue to travel to 1941, where the reader meets Michael Thorley Senior as he translates official documents. But one meeting at the headquarters of MI6, the arm of Britain’s Secret Service, shoots the D-Notice plot toward scenes of action and adventure during wartime and a compelling secret mission behind enemy lines.

Fast forward to 1984. When a woman enters Michael Thorley Jr.’s life, searching for his late father, not all is at it seems. This clandestine relationship threatens Michael, but a cunning past binds the two together in a mutual quest and has them running for their lives from unknown political opponents.

This is a political suspense novel set in London with added complications of German and Russian influences. The narrative is rich and complex and provides sufficient intrigue to keep the reader reading. A stunning cast of characters stimulates vigorous action, rising tension, and in a few places romance. Yet due to the number of characters in the story, points of view, which are secondary to main characters, might confuse the narrative for some readers. Regardless, a well-thought-out novel fulfills its mission with intriguing twists and turns, a few surprises, and a suspenseful ending. I encourage readers to find out what it means to say: “The Eagle Flies.”

Readers who like Vince Flynn will love Bill Walker.

I enjoyed the many plot twists in the book, people not being who they first seemed and three agencies all battling each other. Good switching back and forwards between father and son.

Most of the Americanisms were acceptable, but in the UK parents would never name their child "Michael Thorley Jr" (Chapter 10 and subsequently) or "Michael Thorley III" (Chapter 34).

I felt that the text was TOO full of "rich period detail". Did we really need to know the manufacturer of Michael's pre-amp, power amps and speakers (Chapter 12), the name of the BBC news reader (several Chapters) etc. etc.

In Chapter 21 Aziza is described as having "thick and dark" hair on her pubic mound. Muslim women remove all their body hair from the neck down.

Apart from these niggles this is a very gripping book. Read it.

If the author wants to contact me there are a few typos that should be fixed………….

D-NOTICE covered a secret.
Destiny played its role.

Truth was the enemy.
Or... so it seemed.

Dependent on one's perspective.
Lives were being manipulated.

Present filled with desperation.
Past.. crept back in.

Was there a future?
Only time could tell.

War leaves bad taste.
Spitting... brought temporary relief.

Story brings elements together.
Follow along very carefully.

Ride does get bumpy.
Breathe... air is gift.

Right isn't easily defined.
Doing what think best.

Being put to test.
See... how comes out.

‘D’ Notice by Bill Walker is an intelligent, high voltage action packed Cold War thriller loaded with twists, turns and high level treachery.

In short, without giving anything away the story is based around events during the ‘Winter War’ between Russia and Finland and Britain’s policy regarding it…it becomes one man’s mission to uncover the truth.

Well, this book packed a mighty punch, it was fast and furious, loaded with oodles of action, political suspense, conspiracy, twisted cover-ups and dangerous liaisons. There were a few obvious storylines which were revealed however, there were plenty more surprises which were unexpected making it a satisfying read to devour. So, if you like a gripping page turner that keeps you glued then this is a book for you. I thoroughly recommend.

Gripping story! A compelling political thriller set in London. The suspense is woven around WW2 and the complexities between Britain, Germany and Russia. The narrative is rich with period detailing, perspectives and provides enough excitement to continue reading. Stunning action, rising tension, brewing romances, innumerable twists & turns, cognizant voices…all available in the book.

Thrillers around KGB, Gestapo among others are always welcome. More the merrier for me. It was an unputdownable book from my recent readings. At the end of it, I felt happier for the ’sleeper’ in the story. Their lives are so different.

Set during World War II in 1984 Michael Thorley Junior sets out to find out more about his father. Once he sets out on this journey though he realises that some mysteries are better left buried.

This was a fast paced espionage book with cover-ups escapes and a really good story. Both Michael Thorley characters were excellent and I really wanted to keep reading to find out more about them.

The storyline itself had a lot of intrigue and kept me reading well into the night.

I really enjoyed this book

This is the second novel I’ve read from this author and the superb story telling continued as in the first and did not disappoint.
If you relish international intrigue, gripping suspense intertwined with lies, deceit, mud-direction, betrayal but also glued together by love, loyalty and nationalism, you will thoroughly enjoy this novel.
