Three Shots

Rate this book
A musician, a computer designer, and a tavern owner walk into a bar: it’ll take three shots to get this right …

When Reeve Jenkins picks up his guitar to sing at a local dive bar, the last thing he expects is to bring a guy home that night. Grant McGuire is a man drowning his sorrows in beer after a painful breakup. Having some fun in bed is easy for the two of them but while hookups are simple, pursing a relationship never feels quite right.

Rachael Bradford has seen plenty of attractive men walk into the Hawk Point Tavern but she’s too busy running the place to worry about taking any of them home.

The chemistry between them is off the characters but when Reeve and Grant offer her more than a quick fantasy, they’ll have to figure out how to navigate an openly poly relationship in the small town of Pendleton Bay.

Originally released in 2017, Three Shots has been re-written with an additional 40k words of content, set in the Pendleton Bay Universe, and re-edited.

If you're looking for a story with a fully fleshed out plot and character development, keep moving. Three Shots is all about the sex. It's pretty hot sex, but it is just sex.

That said, I enjoyed reading it. I liked all the characters, even if I didn't really feel like I knew them. In a sub-100 page story with three MC's, I'd be really surprised if everything was fully fleshed out, to tell you the truth.

Three Shots starts when Reeve Jenkins, who is a musician playing in a bar called Aces sees Grant McGuire in the audience and decides he wants to meet the guy. Grant is in Aces having a few beers after breaking up with his girlfriend. The first third of the book covers their first two sexual encounters and also them wanting to keep things casual and maybe bring in a third, every now and again. The remainder happens when they meet Rachel Bradford and very quickly talk her into spending the night with the both of them.

And it's hot. Oh, so hot. Did things move too quickly? Oh, hell yes. What started as a one night stand sends all three reeling a bit when they all want more. I would have enjoyed this story more if I could have gotten to know all three of them and really saw their connection, rather than just hearing the Cliff's Notes version of their pasts and such. Three Shots isn't bad for what we get, though, but there really isn't a lot of substance here.

Would I recommend it? If you're looking for a short, erotic MMF story, then sure. It will fill the bill, nicely. If you want something more, though, then you might want to keep looking.

THREE SHOTS was an easy and fun read and I liked all three of our main characters Grant, Reeve, and Rachael. I enjoyed seeing how they all came to be together and how they supported each other through going public with their relationship. It was also nice to see the support systems they had in Reeve's family, Rachael's friends, and Grant's cousin. This wasn't as steamy as I thought it would be but it was very emotional and romantic.

Three Shots is a MMF romance set in the small town of Pendleton Bay. It's told from a triple first person point of view and has a guaranteed happily ever after. Although this is the first book in Brigham Vaughn's Poly in Pendleton series it ties into Brigham's Naughty in Pendleton series, but can be read as a standalone.

This book was interesting due to the time jumps. I wasn't sure what to expect as I've only ever read Brigham's MM work, but this polyamorous romance was done quite well. We get to see the entire journey from Reeve and Grant's explosive one night stand, to their undefined relationship, up until the point where they meet Rachael and she turns their world upside down. I always say the polyamorous romance is difficult to write, but I think Brigham did a great job with this one. Although it wasn't always sunshine and rainbows for this triad, I liked that the struggles they faced felt realistic but also cemented their relationship. Yes, there was plenty of Kindle-melting spice, but I appreciated the emotional discussions they had as well as the boundaries each person put in place. They took the time to get to know one another one-on-one, but also all together. This was just a lovely book, and and a great addition to the Pendleton Bay shared world Brigham has created!

I enjoyed this story and didn’t want to put it down. The characters are intriguing and had me wanting to know about them. I enjoyed following along on their journey as they navigated relationship dynamics. I don’t want to give anything away by saying too much. I’m looking forward to reading more in this series.

3.5 stars for me!

For people who see a bunch of reviews from 2017, please know that the author has gone back and really edited, greatly added to, and revised this overall story. It sounds like she took a short story, added it to this original one, and then really fleshed it out by making it part of her overall new series.

When this story starts, it's all about Grant and Reeve, finding solace and comfort in each other after past bad relationships. I love when a poly book has MMF, where the two men aren't afraid to touch each other. They have a pretty open relationship for months, almost two years I think really, and then Rachael comes into the picture.

Although the two and then the three of them had great physical chemistry when they were together, I felt like I was missing a bit deeper emotional aspect for them?

I'm REALLY looking forward to Donovan and Rachael's bar manager story, that sounds like they'll be explosive together. And Jarod! NEED his story!

Sweet isn't the first word that often comes to mind when reading a ménage novella but that's exactly what you get with Three Shots. Don't get me wrong, this story is hot as hell with both M/M and M/M/F scenes but it's also sweet, funny, well it's just plain beautiful. Reeve and Grant have an insta-connection that is clear and real even if they walk out afterwards as only friends with benefits. Then they meet Rachel and it's pretty obvious that none of their lives will be the same, the connection is there from the minute their eyes meet. What first is completely sexual and steamy becomes more and considering Three Shots is classified as a novella, the outcome is believable and not rushed at all.

I loved how Reeve and Grant being bisexual is addressed when the three of them sit down to get to know each other. Rachel has questions, she asks them, she gets answers with honesty and respect all of which is done without the author teaching a lesson or stressing an agenda. Three Shots is entertaining that will bring a smile to your face, warmth to your heart, leave you breathless, and personally, I'm hoping that we'll see where Reeve, Grant, and Rachel again to find out where they are in the future.

Not that I'm surprised but Brigham Vaughn has done it again she has yet to leave me disappointed. I just love it when one of my few automatic 1-click authors prove my faith in their storytelling abilities and that is exactly what she has done with Three Shots.

This is an equally hot and sweet story. It's not a very long read so it's good if you're looking for something fairly quick but well worth it! This is a menage (MMF) and even though it's an erotic story this depth to it. The characters aren't all sexing up every second.

Reeve, Grant, and Rachel have a very rare meeting. There's an ease to their coming together. Not a lot of beating around the bush. They are a seamless trio, they just fit. They don't question it or focus on drama inducing situations. They are three consenting adults.

Menage is one of my most favorite tropes. It's also the one trope I am very picky on. Now, in Three Shots the only thing missing for me here was the in depth psychology of this. But, I easily was able to accept that because it was a novella and this isn't a story that focuses on backstory much. Kind of a chance and it's success.

This is super steamy. The sex is quite engaging and the characters are all likeable. Rachel is a strong woman which I love! This is 100% angst free. Seriously, it's a fun, relaxing, hot story that is just so welcoming. I smiled pretty much through the entire book.

Three Shots is a fantastic menage romance. This Brigham Vaughn MMF romance is a great mix of fun and heat.

Take note that this is a new, updated edition releasing in 2021. The reviews from 2017 need to be ignored. The author has revamped this story from a hot, short story, and added a whole lot of emotion, development, and charm to the original content.

This relationship is slow going, taking years to cement itself. Grant and Reeve have one hot night together, but Grant isn't looking for something serious. They definitely connect well and it's relaxing and hopeful.

And then there's Rachael. And hot damn, even her masturbation scene is smoking, as she dreams of two men taking her at once.

I enjoy the pace of this story. There are a lot of time jumps. Sometimes that can be annoying, but I really enjoyed it in this book.

The men slowly reconnect and definitely enjoy their time together. But they both know something is missing, keeping them from wanting more.

And then they meet Rachael. Woah. Cue the sexual tension. The chemistry is off the charts. And the three are wonderful together.

I love this story. The characters all truly complete one another. The bond of their relationship is solid and their chemistry is off the charts. And damn, the communication between all of them is stellar. You definitely don't need to worry about misunderstandings with these three.

The one thing I didn't love though is the missed on-page first dp scene. Omg, I wanted that so badly and was shocked it was off the page. That was disappointing.

But everything else is fabulous.

They face some narrow minded townsfolk, but damn, most of this small town is supportive and truly wonderful.

The writing style is great. Written in alternating povs, we get to know each character well. But, hot damn, it's the sex that's the big draw here. Let's be honest, MMF menages are hot, and the author never lets us down.

Three Shots is a must read to any fans of MMF romances. Brigham Vaughn definitely delights in this poly romance. It's hot. It's sweet. And it's well worth a read when you're in the mood for some spicy fun.

3.5 stars; This story has good bones but I wanted more to the story.

This is a mmf triad romance and part of the Pendleton world by this author (which contains multiple series); I’m not sure which order these books should be read in but there is some overlap. The basic premise is two guys in a quasi-open-relationship but they feel like they are missing something to commit to one another. This story has great bones, and started off rather great actually with the two male mcs but I just didn’t see/feel the connection with the three of them. I’ve read plenty of triad stories so it’s not an aversion to the poly-relationship theme but rather I wanted to see it go slower, develop more organically and to see the separate relationships but it was like someone took a beautiful blue-green play dough and force another color of dough into the mixture so they forever are one glob rather than seeing the beauty of the individual relationships within the triad… I’ve really enjoy this author whom I binged read about 5 different books of their over the weekend but I wanted more from this story.

Sweet mmf contemporary romance. Quiet story about the building romance between 3 people. Low conflict, outside or internally, and what's there is resolved with minimal drama, which is why I've classified it as sweet.

Not an overly steamy storyline, I've definitely read other mmf books with more sexual tension, but a sweet look at the developing relationship between two bi men who are open to a poly lifestyle and then also the female they add. There are still open sex scenes, but not all of them are explicitly detailed.

There is a protracted timeline initially with the men's storyline. One month, two months later, 6 months later, a year and a half later etc. Sprinkled with getting to know what the FMC is up to. Then when they finally all got together it felt like one date to insta I love you's as a throuple. This weird storytelling timeline made the romance a bit unbalanced.

In this genre of realistic type of mmf contemporary romance novels, this is one of the more earnest. Not about the tease and erotic, but the genuine feelings and characters in the relationship first and foremost.

This book was a steamy fun read. There are two guys in this story named Reeve Jenkins and Grant McGuire. They live in Pendleton Bay.

Reeve and Grant end up meeting in a bar one night when Grant was nursing a broken heart. He meets a guitarist there named Grant McGuire. They end up hooking up the same night. They do end up falling for one another but they feel that something is missing in their relationship. They end up meeting a woman who owns a tavern in Pendleton Bay. Grant and Reeve are instantly attracted to her. They end up sharing a night with her. After the night they shared they decided that they wanted to make a go of their relationship as a threesome in a polyamory relationship. I liked them together as a couple.

I felt bad that Grant’s parents couldn’t be accepting of him and his relationship with Reeve and Rachel. I really liked how the book ended and that they ended up staying together. I can’t wait to read more in this series.

THREE SHOTS by Brigham Vaughn is the first book in a new series that takes place in the small-ish town of Pendleton Bay.

I liked everything about this story:

1. The build up to the new series is strong
2. Each character stands on his/her own and stands even stronger in the throuple
3. The time jumps make perfect sense and allowed the story forward momentum in a smart way
4. The schmexy times are most closed door or fade to black. Sex wasn't used as a word filler
5. The whole story just makes sense, was enjoyable, and I absolutely recommend.

I actually downloaded from KU and then purchased it because it will be on my "reread when I need a pick me up" list.

A sweet, low-angst poly romance set in a small town. The time jumps for the first half of the book were a bit confusing, showing this book's rocky revision history, but everything gets sorted by the end. I enjoyed all the characters, even if I didn't necessarily feel the chemistry Grant and Reeve have with Rachael despite being told it is there.

Recommended to anyone looking for a cute romance arc that encompasses more than just the traditional M/F mold. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Hearts of gold

This is a stand-alone and the first of the Poly in Pendleton series although I have read a Love in Pendleton book previously. This is a contemporary MMF Small town Poly Romance and I absolutely loved it, the amount of background information told about each of the main characters gave a good insight into the reasons they were drawn to each other. Lots of passion, sweetness, caring and love along with some humour and angst. Reeve, Grant and Rachael were made for each other. Page turner.

I enjoyed reading this low angst love story about three people finding love together. Grant and Reeve has never really wanted to commit to a relationship but feel strongly about each other. However they have always felt like something was missing. They meet Rachael and they all feel a strong connection and chemistry, however it isn't straight forward. Being in a polygamous relationship doesn't always get accepted by everyone but they weather the storm. It was a sweet story with lots of steam.

I loved Three Shots. I always enjoy an MMF, in fact it’s what got me started reading MM. I liked the style Brigham wrote this in. I love all three perspectives and I liked getting to know them before they became partners. Even though it was a bit into the story before the 3 of them got together, it wasn’t a slow start and I liked that, including great communication and honesty. It was hot, sexy and a total enjoyable read. I definitely recommend this book.

I have a loved all books from Brigham. But I don't feel this is as good. It was not bad just felt too unrealistic. Most books of hers show more struggles or challenges. This felt too easy. I think i read this was a novella originally so maybe that it was more simplified. I guess I was hoping for more understanding of how Poly functions in day to day. So, overall nice read just not a favorite.

Wow! I really enjoyed this story! I’ve a lot of poly stories and I felt the author did an excellent job writing what she had to tell us! I loved Grant and Reeve but loved it even more when Rachael joins in. I loved the sweetness but more so the heat and steam. Loved it. I’m voluntarily leaving a review form an advanced copy that I received.

Three Shots is a MMF poly story set in fictional Pendleton Bay. It’s a great story and I loved how they all came together. How they realized She was the missing piece and worked to make it work! We need more positive examples of polyamorous relationships in the genre. I get that some people don’t like to read women in their live stories, but I do and this was hot as heck!!

This book wasn’t as good as I hoped. I really didn’t like the dynamic between Grant and Reeve, before they met Rachael. Why not just be boyfriends if you already admitted you love each other. It seemed a bit close minded, and also weird that they suddenly became more to each other when they met her. It was an entertaining story but not as much as it could have been.

I love poly books. More love for everyone involved. Reeve and Grant meet and hook up for a while but neither of them want anything serious. Then they find Rachel. They all feel that its right. Brigham does an amazing job with he stories. I found Grants back story very relatable. I will definitely be reading whatever else Brigham decides to write.

I really enjoyed this MMF romance with Grant and Reeve missing something until they meet Rachael and they click though they do have some hurdles to overcome. There are some steamy scenes.
