Sota was roped into becoming the hall director and coach for his sister's college volleyball team. Being so short, he's naturally the perfect plaything for these voluptuous amazons. Can the diminutive Sota satisfy all the rambunctious giantesses and navigate the endless challenge of being the only boy in the girls' dorm, or will his sister live to regret her big idea?
I don't even know where to begin because I don't even want to talk about it. There were several things I didn't like about this volume but the main things were the overlooked SA & incest trope. If I could give it a lower rating I would. I will NOT be continuing this series & I don't think anyone should waste their time on it. (Edited).
A curvaceous ex-girlfriend. A strange encounter with a rogue volleyball net. An awkward valentine's day. A mysterious, heart-shaped locket. The events of DO YOU LIKE BIG GIRLS? #2 blossom outward from the central cast, ever so slightly, and entertain readers as to what peculiarities play in the mind of these strange, horny adults.
Granted, the women's volleyball team at Hokuei University still hasn't played a single game. But that doesn't seem worthy of stopping the ladies from rumbling about their tiny dorm seeking to steal time with their beloved shortstack interim coach. Sota Tachibana isn't lacking for courage when it comes to indulging the ladies volleyball team. But the guy's circumstances do force one to ask what in the world he was doing prior to sinking all of his time into being a housekeeper/coach/caretaker. DO YOU LIKE BIG GIRLS? #2 lacks as many of the external world details as the previous volume: The college-aged characters only go to class once; nobody seems to have a job; the book's quest for relational drama only meets readers halfway.
The current volume's most amusing side story concerns the brief appearance of Sota's ex-girlfriend, Shizuku Katsuragi. Shizuku is a big lady by all conventional definitions; she isn't tall and lanky, or athletically thin, she's a true "big girl." And while she enters the picture for a bit of random hanky-panky with an old fling, her presence does a serious number on the comically-in-flux confidence of the volleyball team. Indeed, if Sota likes "chunky" women, then maybe if the ladies of the volleyball squad gain weight, he'll shower them with attention. (Alas, all bad ideas seem like good ideas at the time.)
The manga also takes a more serious shot at illuminating the casually incestuous romance blooming between Sota and his big sister, Kaoru. Sota maintains an air of collegial warmth. He gives the volleyball players confidence in their work ethic and confidence in themselves (e.g., he always tells Sakura, the most insecure among them, to quit acting like a goof and start being herself). But the ladies actively hem and haw their misgivings when it's clear Kaoru's pissed off when someone else gets too close to her little bro.
Then again, whenever Sota goes out on a date with one of the women on the team, he's often chided for talking about his sister too much. For example, Sota and the kind and sensitive Sanae went on a stately countryside date, in the previous volume, which included an intimate hot springs encounter. Except, not realizing how much he admires his sister, the guy rambled about her constantly. DO YOU LIKE BIG GIRLS? #2 really wants readers to know that the long-simmering, accidental-but-not-quite romance between Sota and Kaoru is inevitable without truly saying it out loud.
The manga's slow parsing of sibling relational dynamics aside, its approach to character-driven humor is solid and the art's increasingly lax approach to mixing and matching sincerity and comedy is paying good dividends. When Ayano Hasegawa, the volleyball team's most skilled player, is caught gazing longingly at the partly cloudy sky, she has no problem revealing she was only entranced because the cloud formation looked like a certain bit of male genitalia to which she's quite fond (Ayano: "Oh, that? I was watching the loveliest dick cloud float by [..] You don't look for them?").
Taniguchi Sota's misadventures continue in the second volume of this bawdy romantic comedy. After the continued sexual escapades of the first volume, now, a semblance of a plot begins to appear. Sota struggles to articulate his feelings for his older sister, who likewise is struggling with her feelings for him. This incest plot is just uncomfortable and honestly isn't nearly as amusing as Sota's escapades with the rest of the girls.
There's a bit more of school life but even so, no one goes to class and the volleyball have yet to play a single game. This is very much still a bawdy, sex comedy for adults only. Hey, it's still managing to be an entertaining read but this older sister romance plot needs to be ditched sooner rather than later.
