Teacher's Pet #1

Love Lessons

Rate this book

One year ago, I saw her in my class.

One year ago, the ground opened up beneath me.

Avery Jennings. She’s my student. My secret longing. My kryptonite.

After I taught her for one semester, I was clear: she needs to stay away. My restraint is wearing thin.

But the first day of class in her second year, who do I find in my lecture hall?

Avery is sweet. Determined. She looks at me with hearts in her eyes.

And I’m a monster. A wicked man.

Because with her… I can’t resist.

Love Lessons is a short and steamy instalove story, starring one possessive professor and his love-struck student.

Cassie Mint definitely knows who to write steamy teacher-student romance books.

I read Ballet Master a while ago and I enjoyed it a lot so I had to read this one too. It's a short story, full of steamy scenes about a college professor and his student. I don't know why but there's something in the stories by this author that work for me a lot.

The only thing I missed was a glimpse of their first year as student and teacher so that we got to see why they were attracted to each other. I'll definitely read the rest of the books in the series sometime. 4 ⭐

“You’re my sweet little exhibitionist, aren’t you?” She nods, hiccuping when I spank her ass. I start to rock my hips, her stranglehold on my cock making sweat bead on my forehead. So. Goddamn. Good. “And you’re mine. All mine, Avery. Mine to fuck. Mine to love. Mine to marry.”

would've given this 4 stars if she didn't cry in every chapter. short and cheesy. love me some student teacher office sex.

**3/5 stars**

To be honest, I wasn't really in the mood to read a novella but since it was only 40 some pages, I said why not? I'll try to be fair with it and stay as neutral as possible with my honest review.

The story is fairly simple. It starts with Avery a young woman in college who's had a crush on her teacher, Ellis for about a year. This semester, she decides to sign up for his literature class even though she isn't really interested in it other than in who is teaching it. She has that feeling that even though he tries to keep her at arms' length, he is attracted to her...

So pretty much, we are thrown right into the middle of their ambiguous relationship. While reading the first pages, we don't really get a background on how they met or what triggered their attraction for each other. I was a little bit bummed by that because I have a weakness for seeing the first interaction between characters who are meant to have a love story. Not necessarily to see love at first sight but just know what's going on in the character's head at that very moment. Therefore, I found the introduction to this novella a bit thrown at me, which resulted in me not really caring for the romance all that much? Even just a little flashback would've been enough for me.

Avery was the typical sweet and shy main heroine, but I liked her bold attempts at getting closer to Ellis or getting his attention. I appreciated that she did things to try to charm him. the fact that she was tempting him here and there helped me believe in the attraction Ellis felt for her.

[...] for the millionth time, I picture her here. In my home. Curled up on my sofa, painting her nails. Sipping hot chocolate and watching a movie. Puttering around in the kitchen, already knowing where everything is. Eating food from my refrigerator, sleeping in my bed, stepping into my shower.-Ellis

As for Ellis, he was slightly OTT. He was a fairly reasonable teacher, knew it was wrong to be attracted to his student and tried to keep her at a distance from him. Yet, he also seemed to not be able to keep himself away from her either. I like a hero who is tormented by his forbidden feelings. Still, I wish there hadn't been so much push and pull coming from him considering the novella was so short.

As for their chemistry...It worked and didn't at the same time. The fact they didn't get a proper introduction of who they were, and how they met kind of made them lose points. The romance was cute but the steamy moments were rushed and cut short. At the end, there seemed to be a chapter missing. This is how jarring the transition from 'Oh we can't be together' to 'We are together now' was. This novella is about 40 pages. I'll never understand why authors don't add 10 to 20 pages to try to flesh out their stories a little bit more.

Would I recommend this novella? Anyway, the story was cute. There wasn't much drama other than the push and pull, and a slight attempt at introducing an antagonist (OM) who bit the dust in less than a paragraph. I think the shortness of this novella might appeal to those who are in a hurry.

**Note that I do not rate novellas and full-length books by the same standards**

”I won’t hide from my feelings. Won’t pretend that I don’t feel his presence from fifty feet away; that I don’t forget to breathe whenever his gray eyes land on me.
Professor Kent haunts my dreams.
And I can’t stay away anymore.”

Cassie Mint is the queen of instalove novellas. This book is about a student and teacher- it's a forbidden, sexy, sweet read. Five stars!

3.5 stars rounded up to 4

I liked this story. I thought it was cute and had a lot of potential. But you’re kind of thrown into the action a year after our two MCs meet and it’s obvious that nothing’s happened between them. How did they get to know each other so well? How do they know about one another’s feelings? What the hell happened? These are things I really wanted to know. It would have only taken a few paragraphs to fill us in.

The second thing that was fine but just wasn’t my style was that the heroine was constantly throwing herself at the hero and getting rejected over and over again. I’m not a fan of heroines doing that but there are many people that don’t mind.

All in all a sweet super quick student professor read.

This was an enjoyable read. This is book 1 of the Teacher's Pet series. This story follows the romance of Literature professor, Ellis Kent, and his student, Avery Jennings. I thought the story was great, and interesting. Ellis Kent is a literature professor. He is possessive, smart, and intriguing. Avery is a student who has loved Professor Kent since the moment she laid eyes on him in her first year literature class. I wish the story could have been longer. Also, it would have been nice to see their first meeting in the first year literature class, and see how the attraction between the two occurred. I thought the ending was sweet. I am curious how the rest of the series will turn out. Next up is the story of Paige and her ballet master, Raphael. Ballet Master, here I come. Overall, a great read.

So Did The Self Help Books Work Or...?

This was alright, I didn't hate it but it didn't do a lot for me either. Honestly it might be because of the length but I'm not sure. To be frank I didn't really think much of Ellis, I've preferred other Cassie Mint heroes a lot more. It was short and to the point and I appreciated the time skip. I also appreciated that Avery knew what she wanted and went for it!

The angst in this book made me wanna hit my head to the wall way too many times. The hero is way too ‘oh no it is forbidden, we can’t be together, it is wrong’ for my liking. He is also a lil annoying at times.
Like i said before cassie has grown as an author and her heroes are better in her newer books.
This was just not the professor/student romance i was expecting. It was just mediocre.

b>The couple: Ellis and Avery

Romance trope: teacher/student
Series: Teacher's Pet
Length: 54 pages

Plot: Avery is determined to make her professor, Ellis, notice her. She's done it before, the last time she took his class, and she'll do it again. But she doesn't need to try so hard. He definitely notices her. But is it a good idea?

Commentary: I felt like I was dropped partway through a story - I didn't know what sort of history the couple had. It was obvious they already knew each other - but had they had a romantic relationship? Was it one-sided? Was he her teacher before or had they known each other outside of class? It was clear for quite a while and I think I would have liked maybe a flashback at least to settle those questions.
Other than that, it was sweet and spicy, a typical offering from this author. The small outside conflict of the blackmailing student was resolved quickly and the bigger conflict of Ellis' misgivings took a little longer.

Next book in the series: Ballet Master

I enjoyed this story very much!

I've been working my way through Cassie Mint, this author's entire library; and I do find her to be one of my favorites in this genre to read... But I barely leave reviews, because I came to see I hold her to a higher standard than other books ill leave ratings and reviews for in this genre.
Without trying to explain why that's relevant as it would be sure to confuse anyone reading this, ill leave it there a simply say I couldn't not leave a good star rating and attention a review for this story.
I liked both character's, and it is a testament to her style in how she writes her characters that makes this a good story that is both different from the usual professor / student trope, ( which is a good trope to begin with in my personal preference), and good in the way the couples story unfolds and how they come together in the end.
Again this is one of the rare time I wish the story was double its length because I liked these characters that much, that although I usually prefer the shorter page count; I gladly read 50 more of Avery and Ellis!

Just a quick little novella read to get me back into the mood for reading.

Did not enjoy. First, this was wayyy too short… we don’t get any back story about how they first met and why there was tension between them. Everything moved so quickly, and before I knew it, I was reading an 8-years-later epilogue where they’re married and have two kids (not for me). I wasn’t expecting much but was hoping to get some good quality spicy scenes out of it but they were honestly so boring. Nothing special at all. I thought we were going to get some excitement with the note from the student who knew what they were up to, but it ended the moment it was revealed basically.

I was planning on reading more of this author’s novellas but I don’t think I will be doing that now. I know they’re short and not much of a waste of time, but if I’m not getting anything out of them, they’re pretty forgettable unfortunately.

Ellis and Avery's Story . . .

This story line has one goal only. Avery Jennings wants to seduce her professor and, although he longs for her, he won’t give in to his feelings and tells her they cannot take it further. He taught her in class for one semester and asked her not to come back.

But the next year, Avery was back. She looks into his eyes, telling him exactly how she feels about him with just that look. Can he continue to resist? How much more can he take before he gives in?

The story line was quick, steamy and forbidden. I can’t say that I was comfortable with this story. I strongly believe teachers have a fiduciary duty to their students that I feel should take precedence. Despite Avery pushing for what she wants, I see her as a victim of Ellis (in a position of superiority) breaching his duty and I just don’t like it.

Professor/Student relationships are frowned upon. Avery is in love with her Professor and has gone out of her way to take his class. Ellis is her Professor and he's trying very hard to stay out of Avery's way but is losing the battle. He loves her but knows that as a student she is forbidden to him. Avery doesn't let him off the hook and as she pursues him he finally gives in. Love isn't something you can turn on and off no matter the forbidden fruit. Very short story and has plenty of steam. HEA at the end. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Wow, if you want slow burn in a short romance, then this is it. It’s been established that they had feelings for each other since the previous year (wished we got a flashback of how it started), so the chemistry and desire was already there. With it being a taboo and forbidden romance it took a while for them to get to the physical romance. Lots of longing and teasing. At first, I’m like hurry up already. lol But then I’m like this works for these two and this type of romance. So I did like it and I liked the two epilogues.

A steamy age gap romance where the teacher and student both are in lust with each other, but ethics are standing in the way. She’s been in love with since last year, he already told her they couldn’t be together. Now comes the question, can she break thru his resolve; a man can only stand so much temptation. A quick love story that defies the rules in order for them to have happiness.

I am voluntarily leaving a review for this book that I received free.

As I said before, I insta-loved this novel. It’s a Cassie Mint novel, and I have a growing obsession with all her indie romance novels, so I’m destined to love all her work, this one included. I loved the passion Avery and Ellis had for each other, and just the fact they were longing for each other even prior to the novel’s beginning even heightened my desire for their romance to work. Give me more, Cassie Mint!

Spice 3/5
Characters 5/5
Plot for a novella 5/5

Ok this thing was like 40 pages long but I still fucking loved it! It was a student/professor and it was delicious. Its inta love but the characters have known each other prior to the story so it's not too over the top and annoying.

It has two nice spice scenes and is well worth the 20 minutes it took me to read this. If you want short, sweet, and steamy, read this. You will not be disappointed.

Cassie Mint has quickly become a favorite author so I am always looking for new releases so I was excited to read Love Lessons. It was quick, steamy and forbidden which I love. Avery wants her professor and he definitely wants her but he knows it wrong so he refuses to give in to his desires. How far will Avery go to force Ellis loose control?

Sigh. Why does the story start too late?
The entire first encounter and the spark is missing and it starts when they see each other again after summer break. I'm just sad I missed out of the initial meeting. The initial connection.

And somehow Avery cried a lot. I mean fair, but her constant crying doesn't help to establish her age. It makes her feel awfully young.

Ellis did the right thing, by leaving the college, btw

Love Lessons is the story of Avery and Ellis Kent.

Teacher x student, innocent and hopeful heroine, dominant but heartfelt alpha hero, he can’t be with her because he doesn’t feel like he deserves her and also he doesn’t want to ruin her life. But he gives in to the temptation and they fuck on his desk.

Solid 3/5

Um....no. Just because this is a novella, does not mean you can start a story with a backstory that is never explained or shown to the reader. I didn't get the connection and I didn't understand where these two were coming from. This story made zero sense because of their history that is not made known to the reader.

I usually don’t mind age gap romances or “forbidden” romances, but I just can’t separate the power dynamics from the relationship when one of the people involved is a professor with a lot of influence in their field and the other person is a CURRENT AND ACTIVE student in their class. Like WTF

Pretty sure this relationship is Agnes Callard approved, tho

This is a slow burn story. The tension between Ellis and Avery smolders throughout. Their attraction for one another borders on obsession even though his goal is to remain professional. It ends with an HEA.
